  1. Hey KTD

Well done mate - i guess now you have the bug - the same bug that has driven

me crazy fo over 15 years - here are a few tips for your next trip.

Try the run out tide - last few hours.

Anchor about 30 meters up stream from the 2nd and 3rd pilon on

    Mooney Mooney Bridge. Sydney side.

Cast your baits close to the pilons. Fish hang out in front eddies and along pilons.

They also hang out on the edges of the channels. They scour up and down

on the edge waiting for food to float into their lazy mouths.

    Use a long trace - 1.5 to 2 meters - pilly fillet - mullet fillet - squid strip -

yellow tail strip or big hawkesbury prawns.

Get a bucket - put holes in it a few bricks and burley - throw overboard.

Hooks - VERY SHARP 4/0 to 7/0 hooks - dont buy cheap brands

a solid rod holder and keep your reel with a firm drag setting in rod holder. The

fish will hook themselves. Neat tides are slightly better - Moon does not phase me.

Finally carry a good gaf on board.

Negative - heaps of eels around that road bridge - :wife: do my head in.

Hope this helps - Good luck.

mate i think your information was fairly informative but yet incorrect and thats what may be drive you crazy.

30 metres is not sufficient enough more like 60-70metres.

don t cast your baits upto the pylon how are you ment to stop the buggers (maybe for bream)

don t get a bucket because you will have know need to burley as it attracts all the rubbish including eels, and so forth.

i hope this helps and may not cause you :mad3: know longer

  2. mate it must have been the poorest boat show it seemed everything was the same as the year before, except for the number of people.

i was down there saturday evening for 4 hours and it was very quiet compared to years gon by. it may be an indication of our economy and i reckon those dealers will be struggling in the future if they don t come to the party thats for sure.

the food is definately not cheap there either payed 5 bucks for a pie. wheres the ACCC?

  3. I thought the October long weekend was Monday 2 October

What weekend will it be 6, 7 and 8

    or

13 14 and 15 This is the one date I can not make. I will be in Townsville fishing that weekend.

Any chance of a little later in October like end October 27, 28 and 29 October 2006

    Cheers

i think your right martin monday the second maybe the long weekend.

so the weekend of the 6, 7, and 8 is set if its not the long weekend.

    can any one confirm?

  4. mate well done, never really caught a jew on a lure besides schoolies on squidgies that are being worked by the current, and not by myself.

true to that vibe get up you got going i really believe that because it took a while for me to grab my first big fella but once i got that first one it seemed to get easier as my confidence rose.

on that ABU i had the 7500 version and gee it gave me hassles i ran the ABU with 2 6500 shimano s the shimano s are smooth and have a beautiful drag on them, never have given me hassles i have 3 now after the ABU ended up in the drink. The drag locked up whilst i was onto a good jew and lost him so i donated it to the waters of the hawkesbury.

i recommend to steer clear anyway.

  5. im looking for any excuse it had to be the worst day i have ever had on the river, and thats saying alot considering how much time i ve spent on it.

i was struggling to pick up tailor trawling now that says something.

  6. just woke up from a post fishing snooze.

today was one of those days where i just wished my boat never started even better my car didn t start or even better my alarm didn t wake me up

it was :1badmood: , then it was sunny, then it was cold then it was a mixture of both. my issues didn t stop there the wind was blowing us all over the shop, the current would start running straighten up then the sea anchor would not pull me round as the wind would blow again a real nightmare.

baits that were used squid(strips, whole and heads), tailor(live), mullet and yellowtail (slabs, butterflied) did not turn a reel

anyway lessons learnt and found a new spot that looked very productive only positive.

  7. Thanks swordy, definately alittle more educated on where they may be now thats for sure, and as you said now for the trophy fish.

no problem, it was a spur of the moment i think ill take my RDO on friday as opposed to next week and with all the rushing around to prep the boat didnt get time for fresh bait. Just wanted to be out on the water relaxing with fish as a good bonus.

will get the squid on my next serious attempt at fishing.

    cheers

righto champ was just a bit concerned there for a second thought he didnt have any or something. because im heading out tomorrow mornin.

i ll be in need of some thats for sure

  8. well done mate what makes it even better is the fact you got it on the old prawn. may be a bit harder to tempt a bigger specie with a service station prawn though.

nevertheless very well done on getting your first jew.

Was there any problem in getting the squid? or you just didn t bother?

  9. hey pablo are you a real jew fisho.

if you are champ im pretty sure you would know jews are an all round proposition.

hey pablo trust me, mate, i d be pretty safe to say know one really cares where your fishing so hence there won t be a hundred baits hanging round your boat

mate infact how bout you help all us novices out and enlighten us on some jewy secrets.

even better champ PM me and ill go you any time any, any week on the hawkesbury and see who can get a jew my proffesional friend.

beleive me mate i will get a jew regardless of the water temp or time of year my jewfish friend.

30 boats following you on the river i highly doubt it

  10. mate well done on your caych once again.

i beleive cuttlefish live alot shorter than that. im pretty sure they struggle to see the autunmn out.

And for there meat its apparently tuff as guts and needs alot of tenderising to get it onto a plate. apparently alot of restaurants use it as squid once prepared correctly

  11. well martin i really like that idea so lets "lock it in eddie"

next thing date and where off and running

at the moment the polling is at 20 so there are a good number of votes.

i reckon by sunday midday polling should end and we shall have the date

  12. jewhunter im willing to do what ever it takes mate.

ive never been involved in a social so if someone allocates positions i will perform whatever duties my task involves.

does someone have any idea whats involved and what positions should be undertaken?

  13. mate i reckon you cant go past the marlin broadbill.

was very close to purchasing one. absolutely magic on the water.

i think most authoriies that operate on the water use the broadbills(water police waterways etc)

  14. well looks like end of september is leading would be nice if was a bit later in the next month but i guess we will have to go with the majority and at the moment its september 30.

come on boys/girls get behind it so we can confirm a date:

  15. Good Bream off barrenjoey, flathead on the drift outside of lions island, sambos at the heads, tailor trolling inside of lions island, squid where ever you find some weed, and jews near the structures ... thats all i know but i'd prefer to fish off sydney harbour any day

good luck let me know what structures bcause i want to go get some.

or do you mean the bridge pylons that never seem to produce

PM your secret structures if you can.

    thanks James

  16. well although my boat is more suited to 2 men i think i could accomodate for one extra person so if someone wants the spot is there.

costs will be divided between the three of us

  17. for bream and flathead mate i would have to say stick west of the bridge places to target would be

the vines ,bar point, bar island, spencer, coba point, joe crafts creek, calabash bay.

    good luck mate
