  7. could your problem be the drag knob itself? it seems to me that it may be your problem does the spool spin fine with no drag knob on the reel like it should does it click when you tighten the drag knob

  11. my first rod reel was a hand me down from my brother cost him $40 from ****** its was a gansel gancast trigger grip with shimano fx 1 with duel drag adjustment closed face reel still got it too i loved it. i managed to break the tip a couple of years ago taking her for a run at the nepean river on a branch one thing i did notice now i was older was the rod had like 5 guides on it total. the line rubbed the blank never cared when i was a kid though cheers mick
  12. sounds like fun can wait to see the pic thats the way too good fish like to hit the lightest rod in the holder well done on reeling it in and securing your catch cheers mick
  13. catalinas can be had currently for $279 plus post and a stradic 8000 for $249 at the same aussie online shop in SA and its under your budget even posted i can vouch for the catilina med/heavy stick as i have mine matched to a saltist 4500 but if i had it over again id more than likely get a stradic even has spare spool and 13kg drag its better than the 10 drag on my saltist i run 30lb on the rod even though its rated to PE2 also i use mine for poppers /lures of the stones but have never used it for livebaiting yet hope it helps mick
  14. what style of fishing are you going to do with it beachfish ,rock or livebait

  17. have you looked at the daiwa catalina 762MH Spin 2 piece 7’6” Med Hvy 1-3oz PE 2 the second piece is 1.75m long so you could take it traveling its also quite happy throwing 18 gram poppers around i have mine paired with a 45oo saltist running 30lb braid but i should have got the stradic 8000 is a top reel with spare spool that can be had for 250 currently both of which come in under your budget of $600 though the rod may be a bit heavy lure weight wise cheers mick
