Mate,

thats a great idea, but in all honesty i think it would take away from the 'social' aspect of the event.

i think what makes our events such a hit is the anticipation and the combined efforts of fishraiders to all be in the same place at the same time, a social event with a single location brings the people together, i honestly feel that the fishing is second on the agenda...

i dis agree i rckon it would give more people more options rather than restricting them to one fish in one location.

i disagree fishing comes first on the agenda as thats what you are there for and if you just want to get a bunch of blokes chatting why not go to the shire for a social pub crawl, maybe start at northies.

its awesome meeting everyone and socialising but at the end of the day we are all there to enjoy the fishing

I agree a day on the water should come down to fishing..

Mollinueax point looks like a car park when the kings are on, and it would be great if most of them were raiders..

I say for more socialising and less fishing, a day at a pub should be organised ( even though I can't attend :05: )

I say we should have more then one social this year way before january, wether it be kings in sydney or botany, or flathead in the hawkeburry.

Either way I will definantly be in the next social

I totally agree sammy, social days arent fishing comps, its a social day where you meet everyone in the club, talk shit, leave your ego at the fishing comps and have plenty of fun.

It is by no means easy to organise a social, trust me, and i think you have buckley's of organising a social in three different locations with marshalls, dont get me wrong i like your idea but its just not going to happen unless you have a team of dedicated organisers and at least 6 months preperation. No one would meet anyone, the people that are less experienced wont have fun and families cant really join in, I think there is a fine line between a social and a comp and in my opinion fishraider isnt really competition orientated club.

I agree with swordie on the flattie social

1. Everyone from very experienced to no experience will enjoy

2. Families will enjoy

3. Most people will actually catch a fish for the weigh in

4. There is plenty of lanbased options people who dont have a boat.

5. There is hire a tinnie options

I reckon this social will accomodate for most fishraider members and will have a large turnout, it can be done over a whole day with a BBQ lunch.

What do you guys think? Im happy to help organise...

You have nailed exactly what I was talking about Joe

The Social days are not hard core fishing days ,but a chance for everyone including thier families and friends to come say Hi.

Landbased people need a venue as well and that sort of Social Day gives everyone a chance at participating.

Someone needs to organise this and they will need help.

The Mods will assist anyone who puts their hand up as will the Admin.

Its your Social guys ,get behind it and it willl be a great day out .

We are going to make a calendar for next years events so everyone has time to get ready for them and if the fishing wasnt that good at the previous time we will adjust the dates to coincide with a better bite :yahoo: The Blackfish Social will be made for late September early October as there is a better run of fish at that time .

The Hairtail Social was successful and that would seem to be a good time.

The Jew Social might be in the cooler months around April or May when there are plenty around .

These are only suggestions ,but after running 3 or 4 Socials which all went well I would urge you all to have a think about it .

Cheers Stewy

Just a suggestion , but I would like to have at least one more social before years end , and the juggling of dates over the Christmas break etc.

As Stewy pointed out , if we all arrive en masse at Moly Point to chase the kingies , I dont think it would be as productive and enjoyable a day as opposed to targetting another species that may be able to be caught in more locations.

So my suggestion is to try for flathead in either Botany Bay , or Sydney Harbour. The Hawkesbury is also a possibility , but we have had a couple of events there this year , and I know some of our members are keen to fish either the bay or harbour. How about the first weekend in December?

Im not a botany fisho, from what i can gather ths molinex point is the main kingy spot, How about Sydney Harbour then.

Many more Fishing places for kings, have well over 6 markers that hold kings aswell as middle harbour and outside the heads. Seems like a more suitable location, and it also has some great places like clifton Gardens where we all could meet, Go for a swim etc.

I think a King social is a great idea mainly because the majority of raiders would love to catch a king and learn how to catch them, there are many members that are quite consistent at nailing them and this social could allow them to fill in other members on some techniques. eg: i would be happy to run raiders through on using a downrigger which would be alot easier if i had my boat and downrigger there.

Although a flattie social would be a great day it isnt a sought after fish for members like Kingys, and i was under the impression that socials were also for education, Experienced fishos teaching the newbies a few things.

Thats my thoughts anyways

I say lets allow members to catch their dream fish in some kings, and Sydney Harbour will get the issue soughted of over crowding at one place, i would be happy to name places for people to fish for the kings inside the harbour.

Great input there guys. How about netic and James organise the King Social

Get a date and venue details happening and I am sure raiders will join you in droves :biggrin2:

Cheers mrsswordfisherman

I would be happy to organise the social but as i mentioned to Stewy, i wouldnt have a clue about organising the food etc, would be happy to assist in organising the place, attendees, recommendations on where to catch livies and kings as well as techniques.

If James is happy to help i would be happy to aswell.

PS: James you can organise the food.

Go ahead fellas and get it going ,start a new thread and we will help you with the details

Cheers Stewy

To be honest with you i think it may be better for someone else to organise it, Don't know how much time i would be able to dedicate to it, i would be more than happy to assist the organisor but would much prefer if someone else took the helm, Perhaps Sammy as he has already done a great job with this thread

  • 3 weeks later...

I'll tell you what I'll step up and organise this one but I'm going to need some help from you harbour kingy guys, I don't know the harbour and I've never caught a kingy so if one of you guys wants to give me a spot on your boat, share your knowlege on the harbour ie appropriate spots to accommodate the barby/presentation and get me on to a king I'll organise the event

Any takers????
