Ray R
Hi Raiders, well what a trip, totally awesome, Hutch and I in the fishing paradise. I'll start this report with our 3 day Charter, what a top time, we caught heaps of fish and had absolute blast of a time. We arrived in Darwin around midnight and taxied out to Darwin harbour to meet up with the boat, as soon as we were on she steamed out of the harbour and headed for the fishing grounds, we met the crew and a few of the other charter fishos , then it was off to the bunk room to grab a few hours sleep. Day one sees us way out off the coast and we are ready for the first morning drop, this is mainly reef critters like tricky snapper, nannies, coral trout and other species. What a start with everyone scoring some top quality fish, heaps of action. Then after some lunch we hit another reef to find the fish there willing and hungry, a huge variety smiles all around, Hutch and I are having a ball. The day soon turns to night and we settle down to a top dinner, a few bevvies and reflect on the day with some chat and banter with the crew. The net day sees us up at the crack of dawn, the big cat diesels fire up and we are away to more fishing grounds, this time we get to play with some Spanish Macks, boy they are a great fish to catch, very hard fighting and armed with a big set of dentures, the skipper(TYNAN) makes sure everyone gets a mack or two then it is off for a troll to see if we can raise a sailfish. They didn't show up today and the baits were getting smashed by macks so we decide to move to another area and look for some Saddle tail Snapper. Tynan puts us right on the spot and we are into some beautiful Saddle Tail, top fish and real strong fighters, Beth the deckie is kept busy with a stream of these beautiful fish coming in, Beth is a top deckhand, she keeps the boat spotless and makes sure all is humming along nicely. After a short time here we see the fish starting to school up around the back of the boat, what an amazing sight, Hutcho lobs some unweighted slabs out and get the light plastic stick into action and soon they are all over the fish chunks and the 7" jerk shads, again we are having a ball, heaps of fish for everyone and we are all stoked. So now for something different, Tynan says the tides are almost right for a late arvo jewie or two so we head to the jew spot and in no time the first jew comes in, the crew gets and 4 and then they shut down for the night which was a good time to anchor up for the and attack it again in the morning.. Hutch and I are up very early eagerly awaiting for the motors to start up and head us for the jewie spot, we pull up an anchor and Hutch and I are first in, in less than a minute we are both getting the feel of something weighty on the baits, we let them take it then wait, wait, and screaming, the line is peeling off the reels, Hutcho goes left I go right then we cross again under, over and back again. What a great sight it was two best mates with nice jewies, slowly they started to come to the top, 2 large silvery shapes, Beth grabs Hutchos leader and up his comes follwowed by mine, 2 beaut jews. Another 6 jews come in so everyone on the boat scored themselves a nice fish, what a cracker morning, we have another couple of bottom bouces for a few more reefies and then it is time to mototr back to Darwin Harbour. What a great few days, scored some great fish and by far the highlight for us was the dual jewies. So back at the Harbour we meet up with my brother-in-law Steve and back we go to his place where he has the event of a lifetime in store for Hutcho and I over the next two days. So that is the fisrt of my Darwin reports, more parts and more pics to come... Edited July 10, 2010 by Ray R

jewgaffer
Sounds like a good trip Ray with a pretty busy time on the fishing front and a lot of fun was had by all ....If you and Hutcho are interested in going to Darwin again next year, Cungee George went up there with his mate Larry aka Occy a couple of weeks ago and has relatives and contacts in the Greek community in Darwin and was only talking recently about getting a group together and going back again sometime around the beginning of winter next year...
