big Neil
Very interesting Derek. Unlike daylight reflection photographs, which appear as an upside down mirror image, these night time (dusk) images become indistinct. If you look at the myriad of different reflections on the water, and trace them to their source, they are greatly dissimilar. This adds an entirely different dimension to the images. One that I really like! Furthermore, I have to say, you certainly come across some very beautiful people, with bizarre dress sense. The champagne glass dress lady and the scantily clad snake lady present amazing images, and your photos have done them great justice, in my opinion. The daytime photos of Madonna's bra bridge must have been altered? I really like the "rust" finish applied to the buildings behind the bridge. Surely that's not exactly how they appeared? Great photos anyway, bn

I did cheat a little and use the vivid mode of the camera to bring out the colours a little more. The lighting before was even better but I missed that moment in the time it took me to race (or at least lope) back to the car to swap the rod for the camera and change from the prime 50mm lens to the zoom lens. I also used a longer exposure to soften the look of the water in the evening shots. Here is one with a shorter exposure time. BaitDropper
This wee fella, has an affinity with my boat, mainly to give himself a good scratching. It's got to a stage that if the boats out, give him 30 minutes and he appears. We have a resident family clan that obviously lives near by, there not fed or incouraged in any way, just left to do there own thing, my shed also becomes a happy hang out spot unless the roller door is down when I'm not about, but this bloke has worked out where to give him self a good scratch down !! We've been here just over 12 months now, he/she has being doing this for all of that time.. I have learnt to make sure the engine is up, as the prop and skeg are his favourite targeted spot.. They are my mates lads and seeing them pull together when they need to was pretty special.

DerekD
The following photos I hope are of interest to the landscape photographers and specifically the Canon users. There are some scenes with a high dynamic range (dark sections and light sections) and the camera has to make some decisions. If it uses the light meter readings from the dark sections (e.g. ground) then the lighter sections (e.g. sky) become overexposed). You can set the camera to take multiple photos in a row at different exposures (e.g. underexposed, overexposed and just right) and using software you can then pull them into one image where it takes the best of the options for each part of the photo. I believe photoshop and lightroom have this capability but I used Canon's free to users software DPP4 for these. There are also several filter you can use to get a different look. The first one is of Mosman bay and was done on slightly longer exposures. There is a pizzeria restaurant I go to in Willoughby and the owner struggled with dynamic range in his publicity photos so I took these to demonstrate the HDR function and gave him options with the pre-set filters (you can adjust yourself to get the look you want by playing around with brightness, saturation, contrast and a few other variables). From memory the first is the one he went with for his Instagram page. First three shots were taken with different exposures (correct, under, and over). The following are the combined photo but then I've played with the presets. First one is the Bold preset and I think the one he used. This is the Vivid preset - slight differences to the Bold. Colours are a little richer. Bold Art Embossed Bold Art Standard Bold Natural The other day the clouds were pretty spectacular but I also wanted the ground to not be too dark. I used the triple shot function to get this photo at Manly lagoon then played around with the variables I wanted: If anyone has a Canon SLR or mirrorless and wants to know more then please reach out. Regards, Derek I use canon gear and Sony, must admit Ive never messed with HDR even doing commercial interiors in the past. I simply use raw images and expose for the areas where I know I can pull enough detail around that exposure from a raw image to get a decent enough image. I should use HDR and layering but find Im to lazy to spend much time at the computer, or should I say if people didn't want to pay for that time they are simply going to get what they pay for. Mike Sydney
Took this pic a few weeks ago in Tempe. Not my hook. Someone’s live bait probably. I found her and cut line off legs, a hook out of her wing then found the second hook in the throat. Poor thing just sat there and let me hold it. 1 2
