Larkin Posted February 3, 2023 Share Posted February 3, 2023 Headed over to Gunnamatta bay this morning to see if any kings around. Loaded up a yellowtail and started to burley. After about an hour the rod buckles and then stops - I give it a yank and I can feel a real heavy weight. As soon as the fish sees the surface it spits the baitfish. I load on a fresh livie and lob it back down - within 30 seconds im on again - this time it’s set and up comes a gun flatty. One of the hooks on the rig is down deep, so after a measure and photo, I cut and leave the deep hook and remove the other. She was a very heavy 75cm fish - released and swam away nicely. About half an hour later the only other guy that was fishing there hooks up to a ~70cm king. He high sticks it and snap - rod becomes a 2 piece! To pay insult to injury, he looses the fish too. Thanks Isaac, was good to get onto a good size flatty off the local! Possibly a few still don’t know about the slot limit - others blatantly don’t care, but I regularly talk to people who just have no idea regarding size limits. Bit of fun for the morning. For sure the 75cm fish was the one I released - my mate said they were fishing the exact same spot on the wharf.
