  1. i had a daiwa freams that gave me wind knots in both sunline super pe and power pro, so it could be the reel. if you have 6lb sunline that can also be the problem because my friend bought the 6lb and kept getting wind knots, its too thin, 8lb is better choice.
  2. bought 9 last week on special, so far a 40cm and 66 cm flathead. i guess what doesn't like prawns?
  3. all i can manage is flatheads in the river lol. even the trevally is far and few between in the bay. 2009 was a plague, now i miss those days
  4. hey all this time of year last year i was doing real well in the bay, this year every time i go, very quiet. focused in the Georges and always manage a good feed, but what on earth is happening in the bay?!?! any experts want to share their wisdom?
  5. what i personally believe in is that yes expensive gear does help you catch more fish. light gear helps with wrist fatigue and allows you to work the lure much better, eg 270g outfit gloomis and a ci4 1000 , when i dropped it, it was that light that it floated on top of the water from a kayak you can't really use your body weight or arms and mainly rely on wrists. sensitivity helps with striking and good rods help you cast further. you can feel everything since i got a GLX. bait fishing on the other hand i don't believe it matters.
  6. I would like to share my experience today, I was fishing in my kayak today in the georges river, 2 young blokes on their jet ski purposely came close like 1m, slows down so he won't capsize me but just to spray me instead, I was soaked, in shock, speechless, luckily it was a hot afternoon and it was quite nice after a while. But! wow, who does that....
  7. its really hard to say, met some guy at BCF telling me he eats anything even from chippo lake. when theres heavy rain its sewerage run off. which isn't as bad as heavy metals or dioxin. personally, i wouldn't eat a bream or a flathead west of alfords bridge, however i would eat a jewfish. Just because i don't catch them often and they most probably travel a lot more than the bread and butter. now in saying that chicken in OZ grow in 6 weeks due to all the chemicals, while naturally they mature in 6-7months... and jesus we eat a lot of chicken. not to mention our fruit and veg that are ripened in the truck by chemicals during transport. fresh fish has got to be better than chemical chicken and fruit right?!
  8. hey mate, yeh im having the same problem, i think the water is too clear. maybe not enough nutrient. i remember my best sessions in BB has been always where the water colour is more towards the green and unclear side.
  9. mate, you are seriously braining the bay. how deep were the flatties if you don't mind me asking. i fish of a kayak and can't zoom across the bay like yourself, once i go to a spot, if its barren, its all donuts
  10. *bows down* i've been getting a ton of undersized flatties, odd bream n legal flattie here n there. nothing of size. pro
  11. whoa 3 lines mate, do you reel the 2 other lines in before fighting a fish? i only troll 2 lines max and i find it dangerous
  12. lol someone must be really good at catching those jewies.....
  13. I prefer the Bag limit of 2 fish with rules permitting retention of 1 fish between 45-70 cm and 1 fish above 70 cm this is the most sustainable practice in my opinion, if the bag limit is one fish over 70cm many anglers will release fish that may be gut hooked that has 40% survival, as 80% of the catches in estuary is under 70cm. this can lead to wastage and the impact on estuary anglers are too big.
  14. it sucks right now, at least last month there were jewies, i can't catch a thing right now........ can't wait for summer
  15. hey all this year is the first time i fished winter and spring. did well during winter with some jewies, but the georges is clearing up and no action there. tried a few places with no luck. could someone share the light on what to target right now??? i need to get my fix!!!
  16. what a sad story, I suggest invest in a hobie n leave land based to the masses if you need tips on kayaks pm me
  17. nice eps, yet to catch one myself
  18. crazy haul there gee you guys braved the wind. but then if i could on my hobie, i would too
  19. hey mate, got them flicking powerbaits, gulp jerk shads, squidgy flickbait and fish into drop offs. yea fishing from a yak sure feels different and even the smallest fish can feel big
  20. i just fish the bay and georges so never ever!
  21. hey mate i got the revo 13, best investment ever
  22. chasing the elusive jew takes dedication and i gave it my all......... before the school holidays i've got donnuts on 7 sessions. over the school holidays I went 8 times... and I think the dedication paid of... in these 8 sessions i've landed 16 soapies, with 5 around 65-70cm... and 11 around 55cm.... most went back into the drink... I got off early last week during the weekday, due to some time in lieu and tried down river and managed the 2 fattest jewies i've ever seen compared to the upper river.. they gave me the BEST fight over the 9 sessions, and I couldn't resist keeping them. They went well shallow fried with a pineapple salsa.. I can't thank one person on this forum enough because without his hints and advise, catching these elusive species would not be possible...
  23. hey all, thanks for the replies, been catching some good Jewies at east hills. I guess will need to find another targeting ground for these wonderful species. will never be sure where the fish has been... up or down river I guess. keep your opinions coming!!
  24. seems like no one is going beyond picnic point ay... lol
