  1. great fish TJ.sounds like you had a awsome trip mate thats a cracker cobe you landed on your lightest outfit, good work mate.what did it weigh?love the fingermark/golden snapper, whatever they call them up there.iv heard theyr 1 of the best fish to munch on up that way.never ate 1 b4 but hope to target, hook, land, then cook it up 1 day.yummo! congrats on the top fish TJ. cheers johnny.
  2. geez slinky you sure thats you in those pics.lol.where would i fish if i had 1 day left to fish?thats a hard 1.iv been pretty limited in my fishing travels & have only fish around sydney, woolongong, nelson bay & darwin once 10yrs ago where my uncle lives. my dream place would have to be in the north of wa somewhere, kimberlys maybe.followed closely in 2nd would have to be fnq.so much to choose from.estuary, inshore sportfishing,to offshore gamefishing.just soooo many great places to fish in our great country we call australia!!!!!!!!! cheers johnny,
  3. hi raiders, i recieved some new plastics today from a generous man & wanted to ask you guys some questions. what do most guys rig 2inch plastics on?weight & hook size? what is the prefered jighead type, ball or bullet heads? do most prefer ball or bullet heads on 3-4inch minnow profile plastics?what wieght & hook size? any help will be much appreciated. cheers johnny.
  4. nice pan sized pinkies.yum!!!!!!! cheers johnny.
  5. sounds like a great weekend mate, good on ya. good to see the small jews in the system.if people do the right thing & release undersized jew, there will be some more big mulloway in the river for everyone to hopefully catch one day. cheers johnny.
  6. 74cm breambo!!!!!!!thats certainly a whopper.biggest iv seen is 49cms caught by a mate using chicken gut at clarkes pt in the harbour.he's not much of a fisho & when winding in he said,"got a old boot or clump of weed" .didnt put up much of a tussle though.estimated to be at least 1.5-1.8kgs i rekon.
  7. well done nathan.nice feed there with the flatty & the flounder.yum.iv never fished the narra area before.heard of some great catches out that way.gotta somehow get out there & giv the lakes a bit of a bashing.lol [yeh right].i went out landbased yesterday.pretty quiet compared to last weeks pb tailor & trevally.[tailor 61cm & trev 49.5cms].oh well,we cant have it our way all the time can we.gotta give the missus a excuse to get out fishing again.lol. cheers johnny.
  8. peirs 1&2 in the harbour right nxt to the bridge.can get pretty crowded but fishes pretty good.kings, jew, bream ,trevs, whiting, jackets, blackies, yakkas, slimies & alot of other speicies too.iv fished there as a kid catching the train to circular quay & walked the further 5-10mins to the peirs 15yrs ago.back then we'd get a packet of prawns & mainly catch bream & whiting & yakkas.these days wen i get the train there,i still target the bream & whiting, but also the kings, trevally & jew.never caught jew there myself but have witnessed 10kg+ fish landed there.this time of year onwards to feb, march, the kings should be there.mostly rats but some hoodlums cruise by looking for a feed too.you can get them casting out into the main harbour, but dont forget to drop baits down right at your feet.alot of good fish are caught[& lost]dropping baits along side the pylons & under there peir itself.the baitfish like yakkas & other smaller bait hang under the peir for cover & the predators know it.iv hooked most of my kings there dropping squid strips straight down either lightly weighted or unweighted.onced hooked up,hang on & have some fun.hav to admit iv been busted off with my fare share of kings there over the years.also nice size trevs too. so get out there & giv the spots a go & have some fun champ.let us knw how you go. hope this helps you & i might see you at the peirs 1 day. cheers johnny.
  9. i agree with both davemmm & rooster.putting the hook through the way davemmm mentioned,& with a half hitch like rooster suggested around the tail has done the job for me wen i do use them for bait.the only thing i do different is the hook size.i generally use a size4 to 2/0 in either longshanked ,baitholder or suicide pattern, depending on the size of nippers. light sinkers or unweighted if theres minimal current,& long leaders is the way i present them.when i use them im usually targeting whiting, bream or flatties.iv had some good catches of bream & whiting using nippers in the harbour at peir 1.id suggest if there are too many pickers around, move along & find a new spot.im not sure cos iv never bought them b4,[always pump them],but im pretty sure that thyre not the cheapest of baits you can get.so if your loosing too many baits to pickers, just move along somewhere else. hope this helps. johnny.
  10. top fish windon.feels great to get a new pb.i got 2 myself this weekend.thats a nice looking outfit your holding, wat is it?is that a stella?
  11. HI GROPER, well done on the tailors.you got a few nice ones.i got mt pb yesterday of the rocks at jibbon to the left of jibbon bombora fishing the point in some gnarly reef not far out from the rocks.it went 61cms & weighed just over 2kgs[5pounds].great fish spinning with metals & also got a pb trevally at 49.5cms & a rat king at 62cm.[wish it was legal cos i love a feed of kingfish]. hopefuly now the water is slowly warming,we all should be onto some good fish in the near future,[fingers crossed].well done again & im sure your young boke had a ball.my son is 6 nxt month & is already bugging me to yake him fishing more cos he usually gets some better fish than me.its all good,we'r getting the nxt generation of fishos into our great sport that is fishing. cheers johnny
  12. great work on the blackies roberta.& good on you for helping a first time blackie fisho get his first few. cheers johnny
  13. hi raiders fished the rocks today with mate josh at jibbon 2day.started off targeting drummer.pretty quiet with only a couple undersize pigs.after about an hour decided to have a spin with a 40gram raider metal lure.cast out to the point on the edge of the wash & 2nd cast land a 35cm tailor.few casts later hook up to a better fish & land a 61cm tailor which is a pb for me & weighed just over 2kgs.good fight jumping a few times.at first thought it was a salmon it was that fat.cast out again & a couple more casts & land a rat king that was 3cm short of being legal[62cm].he goes back to grow into a hoodlum.again few casts later hoook into another nice fish.this one felt different & went just as hard as the last 2.hslf way in it snags me up.spewing,i was stand there for at least 5mins trying to work him out by freespooling then putting pressure back on.josh is saying iv hooked a big clump of weed, just bust it off.after the 5mins i can stil feel tail beats but think all is lost because it snagged.was pointing the rod towards the water & just about to bust it off when the fish swims free of the snag .wash it up & its nice trevally.measured it went in at 49.5cm & another pb for me within a few casts. after that the action slowed down & didnt get anymore hits & eventually lost my lucky metal lure .great fast little spurt of action.josh got none which is a shame bring on the warmer water & more bigger pelagics ,cant wait!!!!!!! cheers johnny
  14. you can use them with normal style jigheads,i do. [even though i havnt had much luck using them].but im pretty sure other people have caught fish on em using normal jigheads.you could try em with the hidden weight system[hws],im sure both jigs are just as effective. i havnt used em much but have had a few hits & pulled hooks using a slow lift&hop retreive on a bullet style jighead,1/16th & size1 hook.only small hops with 2-4second pauses.just try to imagine what a scared prawn or shrimp would do & try imitate it. good luck with using them & hope you get some good fish on em.[me too. .] cheers johnny.
  15. how u goin mate.beginner is right,be careful on the rocks, the seas can be a bit unpredictable.if you do fish the rocks, domt forget you can catch some great fish right at your feet.with a little bit of bread burley, you can get some drummer, bream, luderick, trevally & a host of other speicies.you could try peeled prawns, fish flesh strips[mullet, yakkas, slimeys],bread,& cunjie for the fish mentioned.you could also try cut or whole pillies & pick up tailor, salmon, kings & bonito depending which location you fish. regarding your rod,id recomend you use a longer rod off the stones.dont get me wrong,a 7ft rod can stil be used with great sucess off the rocks[i have got some good fish using a 7fter],but a rod in the 9-12ft [some even use 14ft] range is much more practical off the rocks.it helps to hold your line out & over the edge of the platform your fishing so your line & hooked fish dont get caught around the obsticles at the waters edge.its also alot more SAFER. im sure you can find alotmore info in old post & topics on this great site if you need to find out more.everyone is so forth coming with their experiences & im sure you'l find what you need. hope this helps you on landing some big fish. cheers johnny.
  16. not quite sure yet, just wana get out there.if my mate doesnt wana go,il probably train it to fish the harbour somewhere[cause i dont drive]
  17. can you fish the hawksbury classic landbased?i wouldnt mind giving it a crack this year.
  18. hi mate if you are going to use the tailor the nxt night[within 24hrs],id recomend not freezing the tailor.in my experience with using them for bait is that the flesh tend to get soft & mushy once thawed out,& therefore become hard to fillet without the sharpests of knives.so if your gona use them within 24hrs,i think you should just put them in a bag,[preferably airtight],& put them into the fridge ready to be used sat. without having to freeze & defrost them.they will be much better baits.oh & dont forget that you can cut them in half & use the head & tail sections on double hook rigs.remember,BIG BAITS CATCH BIG FISH!!!! if you have the time, why dont you try what gorms mentioned?or is it a bit risky for you.might not be able to catch fresh or live bait on the night you go out.then you will have to get bait shop bait that might not tempt the jew your after, although jew have been known to refuse the freshest of baits sometimes & get caught on dodgey refrozen stuff you'd use for burley. anyways hope this helps & you get your prize. cheers johnny p.s. i might be going out on saturday night too,so maybe il see you out & about. good luck local boy...hehe [im from fairfield too if your wondering about the'local boy' thing]
  19. thanks for the help roberta ,very much appreciated.might have to drop down in line class.i have been thinking of going down to 3lb lately, just need to get a new drag knob on 1 of my smaller reels,or even better, get a new 1 .dont think so but, cant afford it atm because im not working & barely able to support the family ,let alone buy a new reel.at least iv got fishing to look forward to,& of course FISHRAIDER.thanks again for your help cheers johnny.
  20. great report once again roberta,& some nice fish caught too.congrats on the pb flatty on 1lb "silly string",well done.just a question roberta, what colour gulp shrimps do you use & wat size hook & weight jighead?iv been using the 2in shrimp in smelt colour[i think, grey& white],but havnt seem to have much luck with it.im using 6lb braid & 8lb leader, maybe i have to use that silly string,LOL your help will be much appreciated. cheers johnny P.S. CONGRATULATIONS to keith for winning his 2 championship races, well done.
  21. adding to what fisho for life said about fishing the low tide at kelso, well i was there 4 a quik flick on my way home from fishing picnic pt area & when i got there just on dusk & the start of the run out,i bumped into a fisho there.he didnt do any good but he told me of a couple young blokes wading out to the right of kelso beach near the mouth of the creek & he said they C&R 4or5 big flattys, right where you were talkn about fisho for life.he said they were there for less than an hr & caught those nice fish, took a few pics & let them go.was that you FFL?btw,i didnt land any in the half hr we were there, only couple hits & pulled hooks on flattys i think. cheers johnny
  22. iv been wanting to join a fishing club for ages but cant find any in my local area[fairfield, liverpool area],& dont knw if there even is any around my area.do fellow raiders know of any in or around my area?any help will be much appreciated.thanx. cheeers johnny
  23. hi snap-er,great way to break in the new outfit with a legal 30cm tailor.what i wouldv done is used the tailor for jew bait along with the mullet.knock off the fillets for slab baits & the whole head out if you really wanted a big mulloway.iv read that tailor, live, butterflied, slabbed or the heads are the number 1 jew bait at the beaches at the entrance.iv read that a gun local jew fisho from the entrance, exclusively uses tailor for bait, either live[which has to be legal length of 30cm,which is a big livie],or whole fillet slab, halved tailor[head & tail section],whole butterflied tailor or tailors head.he uses squid too but loves his tailor baits when he's targeting the big 20kg+ mulloway.like they say,BIG BAITS CATCH BIG FISH.anyways mate, well done on christening your new outfit & landing a whopper banjo. cheers johnny
  24. awsome barra champ.you only landed 2 fish, but hey thats almost 2& a half meters of cracking barra.your lucky, some people fish their whole lives to try get a meter barra & you got 2 .great work.shame about loosing those couple to the sticks, but at least you got 2 cracking meterys.well done & i bet you cant wait to get into them again. cheers johnny
