  1. Love the picture of the Lady, holding carbon fiber poles so close to power lines. Shame my boat is too small for those.

Make sure your idle is set correctly.
  3. I was fishing Clifton Gardens more then 10 years ago, and it was painful to see the behavior of certain people. ( one of the reason for getting a boat ) Some people even had a fire on the pier. It was long time coming. And considering families going to the park during the day, I think it's a fair decision. If people don't listen, they have to feel the pain. Shame for the 5% decent land-based fishermen.
  4. From http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/safety-rules/publications/boating-safety-checklist-brochure.pdf In enclosed waters ...... "Paddles or oars and rowlocks (in vessels under 6 metres unless a second means of propulsion is fitted)." Flatheads always reminds me of
  5. From my side, I like perch redfin. They are a delicacy where I come from. It would never come to my mind to throw them away. If you think that flathead is an ugly fish, my guess is that you have not seen a lot of other fish. Long time ago I caught an Australian salmon. Did bleed it and put the fillets in mild overnight. Result was a lovely fish fillet. Another time I went fishing with friends, and together we caught ( and released ) about 40 of them, without keeping one, to my dismay. I have small oars too, in my 4.8m boat. Fortunately never had to use them. A friend of mine, did run out of petrol in Lake Maquarie, and he and his freiend paddled 1/2 way back, till someone gave them a tow. Mi guess is that you can steer clean on obstacles when running with the tide.
  6. I feel the same. Went out with the kids 2 weeks ago, for tiny nibbles, no hookup. So I'll leave the fishing in the estuary for a while. On the other hand, up to Jindabyne next week, and I hope I find some time for trout fishing.
  7. My guess is that not many people know about this safety requirement. Mine is proabably past expiry date, and is located so badly that I would access it only in emergencies.
  8. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. Since it's trevally season, use hooks size 6, small pieces of prawn as bait, small sinker, light line. Cast and, if while sinking, when the tension drops set the hook. Good Luck
  9. Deeper Smart Fishfinder Don't have it. Have a cheaper one with that yellow boat style sounder.
  10. Lucky you. Enjoy it as long as it lasts.
  11. I know I'll cop the usual S-Storm, my way of getting bait without spending on tackle is to get ( Australian ) prawns from W or C or DeC. If they have I also go for Slimies, or squids, always from AU. I'm no pro, I don't go to fish at 5am, I just go out to have a good time and fun with kids and family. I've tried squid, and I'm hopeless. If anyone tells me to let the kids get some Yackas, please also tell me how to get them to stop fishing for them, when I want to move on to "bigger fish"
  12. Go Big. I don't want you to be the next person I see on the water, 4 people in the tinny, and about 5 cm left, before the boat takes the water in. The big long list for Trailer, boat, engine is a good starting point, but if you expect to find everything perfect, your budget is not going to make it. For example, to get a rust free trailer, you need to look at a new one. Considering the size of the boat you want, there are about $2500 gone. I decided for ALU, because it's light(er), more care-free ( needed it ), and I thought that there's not much you can hide with ALU against Fiber. I was in your place 6 years ago, with a bit more budget, and had to look around for 6 month. Good news, you're in the good season to buy a boat, as in winter they are cheaper. Get a good second hand, with higher resale value, something you can live with for the next 5 years. Get experience with it. Then if still in good condition upgrade. You'll know if you like boating, if you go out enough to justify a bigger boat, you will have saved for a bigger boat, you will have more experience to handle a bigger boat and venture further out. Last thing, if you see a boat that you like, do not make any offer. Check the price. Let a friend call to make an offer that is seriously lower then the price, then you can make an offer that is higher then the one of your friend an lower then the advertised price. I did that ( not on purpose ): I saw a boat and I liked it, offered 2K less then price, and when in the office I saw on the the papers for that boat a sum of 4K less then advertised price, with a date. I remember later having called about that boat a few month earlier, with exactly that price. The guy called the owner, and since it was a higher offer then the one he received previously, he agreed. Just don't rush !!!!
  13. I had one of those dodgy import radio on my boat for a few weeks. Standard battery. I was surprised that A) It did survive with only a bit of rust on screws, and how the battery lasted. I would say over 1 month. But don't take my word as rule. You might want to spend on a real waterproof radio, and do your own tests.
  14. My friends did put the line on a push bike wheel/rim in winter. To avoid build up of curlies. And back on in spring. I have too many fishing reels and no push bike reel.
  15. My condolences to the family. it is a huge loss, worst thing that can happen to a family. I was shocked when I heard that the little one was strapped in. Because from my point of view, it is the only safe place when putting the boat in. That's what I did when my small one was 5 till about when he was 10, and he was a good swimmer and was allowed on the jetty. Always had the handbrake on, in P, keys out ( Rather loose keys, and block ramp, then little one starting to play with and god knows what could happen ) I do not see any other place for a 5 year old if only 1 adult available. When you have small kids under supervision you need to be extra-careful, not rush, not let be rushed, and be selfish. If ti takes time, it takes time.
  16. I only had to replace the motor of the tilt. Tilt itself was fine. Lower part of the motor was fine too. Search for "69W-43880-00-00", the images should give you an idea what to look for. about AU$ 300. New. Don't get rip'd off.
  17. Had my boat for 2+ years, before I poked out, and it was super flat, and tonns of other boats around ( Whale watching ). Probably just 1K out. All passengers life vests on. I have ventured a fer more times, but even with a bit of swell it gets uncomfortable pretty quickly.
  18. What a story. I admire kayak fishos for their bravery. Good to know that there are Boat people out there who don't hesitate to help.
  19. $1600 sheeeeesh I was recommended to buy replacement part, and bring boat and part to replace it. Otherwise quote was arounf $800 because of price of original part. Watched on youtube what has to be done, and did it myself.
  20. Hi, had the same issue about 2 years ago. I could hear the click, but nothing else. Cause: Motor inside the trim has seized. I knew it would be coming as I could see the rust coming out. I opened it, and wondered how it could have been working for so long. The whole thing was rusted, with tons of water inside. Ordered replacement from the US ( fleebay ) and replaced it myself. It has occasional hiccups, but 98% of the time it works. Hard part is to get the correct one. My engine is a Yamaha 4stroke 60Hp. By the way, you're looking at the wrong place Check this video at 3:39 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nptI3iuqkw
  21. Guess my 35Kg tackle backpack would not bulge. Jokes apart, I squeeze everything between the seats and the cockpit. Ocki strapdown for the rest. Will see if I can use a net combined with them, for better storage
  22. The roads should be government owned, and expenses covered by the A$0.38143 per litre on unleaded petrol fuel tax. Unfortunately "The tax collected is partly used to fund national road infrastructure projects and repair roads, but most of it (approximately 75%) goes into general revenue"
  23. Or you might leave it up there, get the new trailer first, and do the trailer swap at pickup.
  24. You could buy those 5m endoscopes with leds, that connecto to your mobile, and when on the water you can check if water is building up. I have a similar problem with my alu boat: For some reason the last 2 times water came out when I removed the bungs. It was Dry when I put it in. But I suspect it's water coming in from my deck wash outlets. A test I did was: when the boat was parked in front of the house, and dry, I did put the hose in, and close the bungs, to see if any water was leaking. Could not see anything. Then the bilge pump kicked in. You could put the hose in the place the bungs go, and seal it. Then check if water is leeking somewhere. But i don't know if this is a good idea for fiberglass boats. maybe the fiberglass is not treated against water on the inside, and by filling it with water you do more dammage then not.
