  1. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/safety-rules/safety-equipment/flare-disposal.html "Most flares have a use-by date of three years and they must be replaced before the expiry date. Penalties apply." I might have misread this, as in "Penalties applies if you have expired flares" instead of "Penalties applies if your ( the only one aboard ) flares are expired" This might be clearer http://dpti.sa.gov.au/ondeck/news/?a=126163 "After the expiry date on a flare is past they are an unauthorised explosive. Once expired the flares must be handed in to a police station, where they will be collected"
  2. It says somewhere that it is an offence to have expired flares on the boat. I can imagine that if expiry is not too much in the past the flares are still good, but when they are a few years old, they might malfunction.
  3. I consider it a PWC, and by that it should be banned from the Sydney Harbour. Overpowerded too. Another story if it was running on batteries, and say 6Knots max speed. It's kinf of putting a 20HP engine on a push bike.
  4. I see the issue, and agree it can be painful. I also think it should not be limited to boat trailers. I think it is not fair to leave the car/boat/trailer on the road for free. There is one of those boats in my road, been there since at least 6 month. Did it take away parking space? yes. Fortunately there is enough space to park on the road, so really no one bothered. I wonder which of my neighbour will report my boat? I suggested to my council to introduce a yearly parking fee, for cars or trailers of any sort, to get a permit to park on the road. They would not care. Now they have to. In my suburb all the houses have driveways, or garages, but most of the people park on the road. The covernement will probably delegate the "Retrieval of unattended boats" to contractors. Expect to have your boat to be towed away, while you're washing it down by dodgy brothers.
  5. Was there last NYE, Left home about 6PM, in the water at Roseville bridge 6:30 made my way to bradlis head. Parked just on the outskirt of the anchoring zone at 8:20, watched the 9pm fireworks with my Wife, Mother, 4year and 10 year old. After the fireworks, went to the ramp, loaded the boat and was home by 10:30. Easy peazy. I have no clue how it looks when you stray for the 12:00 fireworks MOST IMPORTANT: Life vests for the kids, then the night light !! Otherwise you will get sent home.
  6. Rust remover? Leave in it for 1 hour and then wash off with water and dry.
  7. Agree. If you don't study at all, you will fail. Once you have a good pass quote ( 90% ) on the mock up questions, you'll be fine. I did listen in on Channel 16 while fishing, and the form you hear is rubbish. You wonder if those guys did even read once the manual. So listening to channel 16 is NOT HELPING !!
  8. The MROVCP is indeed the lesser then the MROCP. Did the test last week. I prepared for the MROVCP, but the Invigilator only had MROCP with him. I did occasionally have a look at those questions too. I doubt you'll find an invigilator that lets you do the MROVCP only. With a pass quote of 70%, and 50 questions, you potentially could have 15 wrong an still pass. I got 5 wrong. 3 about the MF/HF frequencies. 1 about the Message you give when there's a man overboard. The hardest part for me was remembering what are the working channels, dsc channels, ship-to-ship, ..... even worse in the MROCP.
  9. It does not happen often that my wife comes on the boat with me. On Friday I asked my son, if it was ok to take the girls (mum and little sister) on the water with us, and go to Pittwater, instead of going out past the heads, just the two of us. He was more then happy to have them coming along. Then I asked his little sister, if she wanted to get on the boat on Sunday. She said: "Why would I say no, yeah ! " Ok then, Sunday the weather is great. The boat gets a last clean, and off we are for a family fish with picnic, or the other way round. We Hoked up on a little buoy, to have lunch, and then the lines went in, but not much to report. I suggested to move to another spot, to something that looked like a hole on the mobile/phone/sounder. I put my heavy rig out, and leave it in the rod-holder, while my sife and my son fished with 2-5 kg rigs. We pulled in about 25 fish ( Wife 15 - Son 10 - me - 1 ) We kept 5 slimies and 4 yellow-tails. My fish was a shovel nose on the heavy rig ( as usual ) We had the ferry pass (very) near us twice, but it did not spook the fish at all. Normally my wife is the one pushing for heading back, but she had a ball, and it was up to the smalles ( 5 year old daughter ) to remind us that it was time to go home. Was an absolute fantastic day, sun was out, no wind.
  10. I would need a Fresh-Water mermaid, for the pool . Not sure about reaction of Wife
  11. Offer him $20. He might say YES :-) It happened to me too: Last 3 jackets, he wants to get rid of them. I said No, I did not like them. He then opened the boot and had 3 huge bags full of jackets, and he started to show me more ... "Didn't you just say those were the last three one's?" Idiot.
  12. Did you have the water? Water (suitable for drinking) 2L per person I got "visited" when out south of the heads: We were both wearing Life Vests. They checked my License Number, and just asked me stuff. I replied yes to all ( in fact I did have all ) When they were about to leave I said: "And I have the water too". But it's too easy to forget about the Flares.
  13. I used to buy BlackIce Polarized and UV400 sunglasses from the souvenir shop in Nelson Bay. Cheap one's that don't have a frame on the side and at the bottom of the lens, because I want extra wide view. Unfortunately they don't have them anymore and I've run out of stock. Anyone who knows where to get them, could you please PM me where ( Region Sudney - North )
  14. Son and I started bit earlier then usual, Arrived at the water 7:20. We were hoping for some jackas around Balmoral head, but did not find, so we moved to Saw and Pigs to see if any there. On the way there, just at the height of Middle Head we encountered a pod of about 7 dolphins going direction Manly. At saw and pigs, no jackas to be seen. Did let my son have a try with the handline if he could find them. While I was hooking trevallies around 25 cm. Was hoping for some bigger ones without luck. After my son had hooked and released his share of trevallies, we decided to move on. Despite being a bit windy we ventured outside. First just off / around south heads, just to encounter octopus that liked out bait. We had many snags that after a while misteriously unsagged without any loss of hook and sinkers. Then to the colors, but I guess the current was too strong, and I think we didnt made contact with the ground. To round up our tour a quick flick at Middle Head, where we caught a few Red Easter Scorpion fish, which were all release. The day was much more windy, outside, then what I expected.
  15. I allways seem to snag the bottom there. What would be the best Rig? Bait underr Floater?
  16. Yesterday, being out with the boat, I was listening to channel 16 and channel 78, where the incoming calls got directed. I know there is ( or better should be straight protocol ) on channel 16, but what i've heard, made me laugh so hard. Yes, It really should have made me cry. "Sydney Rescue, here xxxxxxxx, need response", "Here is xxxxxxxxxx, need radio check", plus mobile numbers passed on, over the radio. Tempted to spend a day on the water just to write down all the hilarious comments and request I hear on the radio.
  17. My best catches of flatties ( not many ) were on normal trace, but with the drag loose enough, so that when the fish shakes his head, the line gets pulled, instead of running accross it's teeth. The only time I used wire, was when chasing Tailors. Bot stopped that because if a brim swallows the hook, cutting the wire is messy, and not good for the fish.
  18. Does anybody know why Drivers do not switch the light of the car on, in a torrential rain. I almost oversaw a gray car with no lights in torrential rain, when I was about to change lane?
  19. Nothing wrong with that! I even put my little 4 year old to bed, and I do it better then my wife. And I walk without ubmrella no matter how hard it rains and swim in the pool at 9 oC. Did a Chatswood to Lindfield walk yesterday, because the trains were down.
  20. LOL. With this mentality, a lot of ( rainy ) countries would be broke.
  21. I do not leave the car overnight, but if I would, I would install a Camera inside the car, connected to the 12V battery, and storing the images on the cloud.
  22. It's thal little person sitting in your brain, that makes you do things you wouldn't do, because that's how people expect it from you, and you don't want to disappoint them. Translated: When I went fishing, my wife never had confidence in me and kinf of told me that O would not catch anything. The little person of course didn't want me to show her she was wrong, so he made me fish in the wrong places with the wrong bait and plenty of mistakes. When i came home, my wife was indeed right, and everyone was happy. What is worse? Unhappy wife or a freezer full of fish?
  23. Paid $120 for TWO Self Inflatable life vest, bringing in 2 of older life vests. I think it's a brilliant offer.
