    New reel

The soron sx is a good little reel. Smooth drag, good line capacities and very tough. The 2 spool idea is very effective. I currently use both spools of my shimano saros 2500, one with 6lb and the other with 12lb. Easy to change and very quick. The soron stx is worth a look too! Cheers, Tom
  3. Congratulations mate! Not big fish but to get 3 of them on SP is a great effort!
  4. Over the last month or so i've watched them make very little progress! From what i've seen, they "work" for half an hour then have a few beers and repeat this till they knock off early arvo! Personally, i can't see it being finished before August. All i can say is that the ramp better be damn good when they finish!
  5. I'm pretty sure there's a path from the end of sugraloaf crescent called something like "cheney walk". This should take you down to the water. Agree with motohead, yeoland is good also, especially for a bag of bream!
  6. Off to Hawaii in December so i'll have to look out for those sort of boats! Great work for a first time mate! I also went for a first go saturday night but 0 for me... ah well
  7. Sounds like i picked the wrong night! Went out to WB on Saturday for a donut. Grabbed a few yakkas and legal snapper at west head but when we arrived (6pm) it was quite crowded. Around 15 boats in there which isn't a lot compared to what theres been lately but still very crowded. Over the next 4 or so hours we didn't even get a bite. Not even the bream/jewie rods had a bite! Pretty slow... I guess thats fishing though.. I'll be out soon chasing those silver bastards! AGAIN. Cheers, Tom
  8. For your yakkas head over to balmoral island or sow n' pigs. There should be a few salmon, tailor, trevally, snapper and the odd king around atm. Sow n Pigs for trevally, bream and snapper while the heads is great for salmon and tailor. There is a channel marker located a little way off nielsen park. This would be a decent spot to have a crack with the livebaits and squid strips for big bream, salmon, snapper, trevally, tailor, jews and maybe a stray kingie! You need to burley hard to entice the fish! Good luck!
  9. Could be mate! Another report posted a few days ago about one caught in LCR. They generally are light in colour if in saltwater but there are a few reasons why it may not have been. If its been living amongst the weed it may cause it to get darker in colour (unlikely as it can't have been living there long with current water temps. Could have been hatched/farmed in fresh water and then when some fool placed it in the harbour it remained that colour. Could be due to its health but then again i'm certainly no expert...
  10. Well that was a dis appointing night... managed 12 yakkas in no time at west head as well as a few legal trevally and tailor. Then off chasing hairtail at WB. Not a touch all night! 5 hours with not even a bream or tailor biting! Definitely the slowest its been in a while!

  11. If you have a boat then definitely. Lots of snapper, trevally, salmon, tailor and john dory at the moment. West head is the go for yakkas (12 in 10 mins yesterday) and a few good tailor and trevs on ganged pillies. Plenty of jews and kings are taken in the warmer months too. Stokes point for bream, flathead and trevally. Its definitely worth a go atm. Plenty of nice fish to be caught!
  12. Good session mate. Can't argue with a few good salmon. Not sure where your fishing but have a go at sugarloaf point, late arvo tide change. Good for big bream, jews and kings. Pickering point is the next best option too! Good luck!
  13. Taylors point wharf (pittwater) with pilchard fillets and peeled prawns for good bream, leatherjackets and trevally. The odd salmon and tailor passes by here so a live yakka or ganged pilchard under a float is worth a shot. Plenty of blackfish and squid too!
  14. It really depends on when and where. Overall i would say that the humble prawn takes the cake. Mullet fillet is my favourite on BIG bream though!
  15. There is one other good option i think. The shimano alivio range of reels. They're around $40 and actually quite a good little reel. Perfect for bream, flathead, trevally and whiting. I've caught good snapper as well using it. Smooth drag for a cheap reel too! Give it a look!
  16. Bring on the hairtail!

  17. Should be okay mate. I personally don't like the penn reels myself but they are definitely a tough little reel! Should handle jews and kings but then again, people regularly get bricked on 80lb braid.... On the other hand people land legal kings and big jews on light bream gear! One thing i would say is shop around. You might find something a little better for a reasonable price. I would certainly recommend dropping into your local tackle store and getting them to suggest a few options!
  18. It depends on a few things mate. Generally speaking i'd say between 5-10 minutes. Sometimes less and sometimes more. You have to make sure that you are at least 5 meters away to ensure they feed properly. You should put your trap in less than 30cm of water for best results.
  19. Personally i like 3 brands the best. Fins, Sufix and Power Pro. All perform better than other braids i've used!
  20. Hi mate, i've caught plenty of poddies. Both using traps and small float rigs. I'll do my best to answer your questions: 1- From memory there is a limit of 20 poddies under 15cm long. There may also be a trap size limit but not quite sure what it is. 2- I prefer summer and autumn for poddies but they are still around for most of the year. 3- My favourite rig is a running ball sinker to a suitable size hook. I use 3 hook placements. Through the nose, through the shoulders and through the back section. If you pin it lightly anywhere in the back then you should do well! 4- They are often in schools and can be found in a variety of areas. Sandflats and shallow creeks are a good starting point. Throw some bread in to get them on the bite! 5- I've caught plenty of good bream (to 38cm) Flathead ( to 71cm) and tailor (to 40cm). Definitely one of the best baits around. Up North i've got plenty of big barra, jacks and queenies on them too! Good luck!
  21. Totally agree mate, thats what i was implying... The barra in the photo looks like its been in the wars a bit. Any ideas?
  22. Yeah, i'd definitely say someones put it in there. It happens every now and again but the fish don't last long in our climate! Although there's still a chance that he followed the warm currents down from QLD and ended up in LCR!
  23. YEP! BARRA! Some idiot probably put in the river though! It doesn't look to healthy.. how long was it?
  24. Thats the challenge mate! It took me many many many hours to crack the code. But its all worth it when you get it!
