  1. Don't worry mate, all good! Where did you get they yellowtail around there?
  2. Hey raiders, with all these hairtail reports lately, im going to have a crack at them. Having never fished for the before i don't really know what to do... Obviously the general spots are in Cowan around WB and Jerusalem. I've lined up a mates boat in the next few weeks. If anyone could provide me a few tips including: - Rigs - Baits - Depths Also if anyone could briefly explain how to prepeare the for the table (filleting) Cheers, Tom
  3. Sorry mate, didn't see the sub title. Makes me wanna have a crack at them! Looks like you'll be eating well ! What bait did the jewie take?
  4. Great hairtail but what about the jewie! Not a bad by-catch at 12kg! Solid effort mate!
  5. Definitely a mako! Nice one too! What'd you get it on?
  6. +1 for bait. Some Jewie Fisherman swear by it either live or butterflied. Never tried eating them so can't say... Can't imagine it'd be great though..

    Pyrmont?

You can fish around pyrmont. Not really any "specific spots" but theres plenty of bream to keep you occupied. Either burley them up and use fresh prawns or SP for them!
  8. Always good to get a few on SP. Lovely looking flatty there. Can't beat the smile of a kid with a big fish! Priceless!
  9. Winters a good time too mate! Run in Tide on the SE OR NE corners are the go! A few undersized fish but plenty of pannies (35-45cm) fish available with the odd better fish! Give it a go!
  10. I'd like to say its a javelin fish because they're fantastic eating They don't come down this way though. Almost guarantee its a small spangled emperor/blue line emperor...
  11. User 1829 is right. The ramps out of action atm for upgrades etc... There are definitely some nice jewies up that way. Got my first decent one a few hundred meters upstream from the ramp in April. 96cm on a live 32cm Tailor. They are my favourite bait up there as you get some thumping big flatties on them too! I'm sure you'd be able tog get them on yakkas and squid too. Many say that there arent squid that far upstream. There defnitely are. Got 4 at the ramp a few weeks ago which got me a brace of good bream! Plenty of yakkas as well
  12. Javelin fish ? We don't get them this far down mate.. Mainly a tropical estuarine species up north coming as far south as about tweed heads. What does the fish you've caught in the hacking look like ?
  13. Thats definitely how it should be mate. Hopefully they change it some day. It would be a lot more convenient
  14. I agree with abacederian. Pretty sure it refers to lines rigged with terminal tackle. You may not intend to use all of them but if you have more than six then they can apply some sort of penalty.
  15. There's two ways you can target snapper. Bait or SP. For SP grab some 7" Jerkshads and large wrigglers and your on your way. With baits, things like squid, pillies and other fish flesh are standard. Another deadly method of snaring a few bigger reds is to livebait with slimies, yakkas and small squid. The fish are generally good quality when taken using this method. Burley is key as well! Location wise, i'm not too sure about outside broken bay. What i will say is that Lion island has a fair few reds kicking about. The NE corner and SE corner are two of my favourite spots. Burley up and you should get a fair few pannies with the odd bigger red (60cm+) kicking around two. The by-catch here is good too with jew, flatties and trevally on the cards. When trying to find good snapper ground, you need to find a mix of gravel and reef and your on your way Good luck!
  16. North Narrabeens probably the exception at the moment. With all the water flooding out of the lake theres bound to be some nice fish kicking about! North Narra is one of the few beaches that you can regularly catch whiting from in winter. Worms and small squid baits get the job done Definitely worth finding a nice gutter near the entry to the lake and fishing for jew!
  17. Looks like a juvenile Blue-Line Emperor to me. Odd capture this far south, especially in Winter!
  18. Jinkai all the way mate! Not as cheap as some leaders but extremely good quality! Have a look at it
  19. It definitely is dead in Winter mate. The odd flattie and small bream and tailor. I fish the lake landbased a bit and i think your best bet is to hit up the ocean street bridge on a run out tide. The best way to fish here is to chuck a bait out (live mullet, big prawn or squid strip) and fish SP while you wait. The live mullet will rarely be taken by small flathead (under legal size) with my average being about 45-50cm. You get the odd 80cm croc using this technique two. I reckon you upsize a little with your SP. Try some 4" plasctics like 100mm bloodworm wriggler, 4" ripple mullet and 100mm squidgy fish. These all work on flathead. Its really a matter of keeping on going and you should snag a few ! Cheers, Tom
  20. Won't be easy but you can get jew there in winter. Some nice bream and flathead too. There was a similar thread posted in fishing chat a few days ago. Have a look as some of the more local raiders had some good advice
  21. 7" Jerkshads, Large squidgy fish and pretty much anything sizeable with a paddletail. Most colours are good but if i had to pick then a whitish colour would be first on the list!
  22. Think I just cracked it. A few lovely looking albrights in a row! Definitely a thin knot too
  23. Big flattie on a tailor ! LOVE IT! Tailors got to be one of the most underated big fish baits. Most would catch a just legal tailor and not even think to use it as bait. It catches jews, big flatties, sharks and i've heard of big kings too! Also get big bream on the fillets! I swear by it since i got my first jew on one ! Cheers, Tom
