  1. I have done a few drifts here with prawns as bait and got flathead to 40cm and whiting to 32cm. It is worht a shot from shore for bream, flathead, whiting and don't right off a jewie. For the jewie i would recommend gettitng some live mullet and putting them out on a 6/0 circle with running ball sinker. If you have a boat then definitely work the oyster farms around here! Lots of bream, flathead and whiting around these oysters with the odd jew taken on plastics in the deeper water off the end of these! Good luck!
  2. Depends where in the river you mean. some have deep water and structure within casting distance while others are just sand and mud. If you fish diligently with prawns then you should get at least a couple of flatties, catfish and maybe a bream or soapie. I can help a bit more if i know where you are thinking of camping.
  3. i do the hiring up there a few times a year. We normally scoot over to dangar island and pick up a few legal flatties and flounder. We also sometimes fish the bridges and get good bream and flatties. Where abouts were you fishing? Hire a boat from brooklyn up there.
  4. Yeh, thanks guys. Would the moorings around clareville be any good. Its about 12 meters deep with some nice structure there?
  5. Hey raiders, summeris fast approaching and i'm keen to get my first legal king. I am mainly going to fish around pittwater with live yakkas, slimies and maybe even squid. I have a few spots where i have caught big salmon, tailor, flathead and lost a big jewie at. Can anyone suggest any spots that give me a good chance of getting that elusive kingie! Tom
  6. Infact, Found 2500 stradic fpr $139. Great price but just asking once more. If i matched it with 20lb braid do you think t could stand up to school jew and mangrove jacks?
  7. Would the prices drop before december?
  8. Yeh mate, might go for the saros then. Sounds good enough and hopefully can stand up to some jacks up north this summer! Thanks for the replies!
  9. Hey raiders, i have decided on either a stradic fi 3000 or a saros 3000. I'm leaning towards the saros as its a good $50 and still perfect for flathead and the likes. Has anyone got this reel or have any advice with it? Tom
  10. live worms on with a light sinker around dawn or dusk will get you a good bag of bream and whiting. lots of undersized whiting and bream but you get the odd big fish to 40cm too! Tailor and salmon off the rocks at this time of year.
  11. mate, peeled prawn on a size 2 longshank with a small sinker tied about 20cm away from the hook. This rig subdues many leatherjackets form wharves for me.
  12. Try either weddidng cake with the livies and you should get salmon, tailor, trevally, jewfish and maybe a stray kingie!
  13. Their numbers are climbing pretty rapidly. I'm now seeing a few every year in the harbour! Be careful where you, especially in Middle Harbour...
  14. Weipa 2012- 5 days guided fishing booked for next April! Can't wait!

I have been there before. Mind Blowing!!

  15. There are two options that i would recommend for this time of year. Either a day trip to Corroboree billabong catching barra ( most around 60cm with the odd bigger fish) and saratoga, or a full day bluewater fishing offshore. If you are after a memorable experience with fantastic scenery then corroborree all the way. However, if you would like to drop a line out on the offshore reefs and get a good feed or reefies, mackerel and jewies then offshore it is. If you only have one day then i would have to recommend an offshore charter as you are basically guaranteed to catch fish ( and good ones! ). I was up there a couple of months back and there was a 12kg jewie caught. Along with a few blue salmon, emperor and other reefies. We had a very very slow day for their standards and if you go p there thetre is very little chance it will happen to you too. I'll pm you some charter names. Tom
  16. Mate! Giant Trevally easy! just imagine how a 1m+ kingie goes. This would be the equilevant of a small trevally!
  17. Hey raiders, a few weeks back i was after some help with deciding what rod and reel fit my needs. I origionally said that i wanted a combo light enough to fish for bream on lures with but heavy enough to tackle mangrove jacks and school jew. I have changed my needs a bit. I felt that 3-6kg was a bit light for jacks so a thinking a rod in the 4-6kg or 5-8kg range that i can use for the jacks, school jew and Snapper offshore on sp's. Here are a few rod options i cam across. * Abu Soron Spin, 2 piece, 7 foot, 4-6kg * Pflueger Trion Spin, 2 piece, 7 foot, 3-6kg range * Shimano Mexican Fire 701, 4-7kg I would be either matching this rod with a shimano stradic fi or shimano saros. Both 3000 size. Are these reels too small to work well on these rods? Also any suggestions or tips to do with the rods would be great. It also has to be 2 piece.
  18. Mate , i was ot in pittwater a couple of weeks ago. We got a dozen in 10 minutes. Some days they are just not there at all. Very frustrating!
  19. Hey mate, i fish balmoral quite a lot. I find that it fishes best around April however i always get a feed when i fish here. My way of fishing it is basically having 3 rods. 1 with a prawn, one with a pilchard fillet and the other with a live yellowtail that can be caught next to the wharf. I usually get a few legal trevally on prawns and pilli while the yakka usually gets a decent flattie or too! Lots of squid atm too. Late arvo's are best with bright colours so im told. Fish the yakka on the bottom and you have a decent chance of Flathead, Big Braem, Jewfish and maybe a salmon or king. Good luck!
  20. Thats a good option mate. What size reel and model rod?
  21. Maybe mate, i might have a look in the local tackle store first and then make a decision.
  22. Yeh mate, spinfisher might be the go! I'll pop into my local tackle store too for some advice. They normally have a lot of rock and beach fishing gear.
  23. I dont think i can go heavier with the rod because it needs to be light enough for bottom bashing for reefies and flatties, snapper etc..
  24. i looked at those. Is 8-10 kg too heavy for reffies and flathead on paternoster rigs? i suppose ill use it for jewies too so.. is mono a better option than braid for rock fishing?
