    Fish id please

I'd definitely say Bull. They have been pretty thick lately and i saw one not long ago at Balmoral too. They tend to be more active when the water is dirty.
  2. Rig for yakkas- A single Hook rig with ether a 5/0 or 4/0 Circle Hook or Octopus Hook. Rig for squid- two hook rig with one wedged though the top of the head and a loose hook dangling around the tentacles. Spots to try: Clive Park- about 80m off clive park there is the deepest hole in the harbour apparently around 45m deep. Locate it on the sounder or if you don't have a sounder just get as close as possible as there will be fish scattered around the edges. Especially Jewies! Spit- Yakkas and squid for Kingies, Jewies and a many others. Slow trolling the livies is a good idea aswell as the kings will be hanging ariund the moored boats. Sugarloaf Point- Deep water about 60m off the point where you will get your kings, Flathead and Jewies. Balmoral- Slow troll the yakkas and squid past the moorings for kingies, Bonito and Salmon. Good luck!
  3. Corroboree is amazing mate! Fsihed there for a day a few months ago and landed a few nice barra in the 60's. Some big crocs around too.... haha
  4. Not sure, there is a jewie hole somewhere off Lion Island. That could be it.
  5. You know, there's some great fishing inside Pittwater. Get some yakkas early and your options will be better. Try Coasters retreat and just offshore from the baitgrounds (Westhead) and you will get flatties, Bream, Jewies, Salmon, Tailor and maybe an early season king. Lots of Flathead on the palm beach drift on the pittwater side being taken on prawns with the odd whiting around too. Yes, there are some flatties offshore from Palmy too. Find some reef offshore from the headlands and open your options to snapper, Bream and Kings! Good luck
  6. Hey mate, not 100% sure why they are going to be big exactly. Mainly heard it from others but my guess would be that it is something to do with the breeding cycle and all the smaller fish we had last season are now bigger fish.
  7. Some nice stories here, here's mine. Hooked onto a nice little bream on a vibe in Pittwater. A pelican comes out of the blue and picks my 35cm fish up and proceeds to fly away. I only had 8lb braid and 10lb leader and this pelican made a mess of it. it flew around a nearby pylon before coming straight around the other side and then ping... well... that was.. fun...
  8. Nice little Bream there. Is the nanofil worth getting for soft plastic purposes?
  9. Yeh, thanks for the advice guys. I think i'll head up to the local hardware store and see what they can do for me. Might even have a go at building it myself if necessary. Thanks!
  10. Thamks for the tips guys . I would make my own and use a wider diameter PVC but i'm not particularly good with making those sort of things. Are they easy to make? How long (hours) would it take to make one?
  11. Hey raiders, i want to take 3 rods with me on holidays to QLD this summer. The length is no issue but i need to fit 6 pieces being about 1 meter long each into a PVC pipe. I will definitely not be able to fit 6 in as i had trouble with 4 pieces last time. It is definitely necessary to take the 3 rods as they are for different purposes like live baiting and light line plastics fishing. Can anyone suggest an option for me? Will they get damaged if i tape then together and wrap them up in something? Tom
  12. Hey raiders, I was doing a little research as i'm headed up to noosa for a week in Summer. I plan to fish as much as possible and came across something interesting. This year there have been a few barra caught on the Noosa River. Mainly the middle reaches but they arent meant to be coming down that far south. Check this one out! Caught this month on a 60mm popper! A few other pics attached of Noosa Barra and even Threadfin Salmon! http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au/sept0211.080.jpg http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au/dec0110.040.jpg http://www.fishingnoosa.com.au/jan0511.060.jpg Can't wait to see what the warm currents bring our way this summer!
  13. Whiting, Flathead and Bream off the beach with Longtail Tuna, Mackerel Tuna and the odd Spotted Mackerel withing casting distance from the rocks of you are lucky. Might be some Salmon and Tailor around too!

    Balmoral

Bit late mate but just straight off the end of the wharf and you'll get a few.
  15. If you want to include braid into your budget then i suggest you change it to $350. Maybe a Shimano B series Baitrunner 6500 matched to an 8-10kg rod. Braid wise maybe 50lb will do if you are landbased and livebaiting. Some of the kings this season will be BIG so if you arent comfortable with having 50lb then upgrade a little maybe to 65 if you can find it. The Baitrunner is a great reel. The D series is better but for your budget the reel i have recommended should be fine. Another option is the Spheros. They come in bigger sizes and around the same price mark. Good luck!
  16. I'm pretty sure its 4. I always fish 3 so i hope 4 is the right amount!

    Big Fish!

Hey raiders, i have an overseas relative coming over for a few weeks in summer. He is obsessed with his fishing and wants to catch " Big Fish" out here. The plan is to do some fishing in sydney (Kings, Jewfish) then head up to Hawkesnest in Port Stephens where we will do some offshore reef fishing, Whiting fishing and maybe even a marlin charter. We might also head up to Noosa for a week or so after targeting jacks on lures and reef fishing charters offshore. Can anyone suggest anywhere else in NSW or SE Queensland that i can get him onto some big fish? Some tips on where i might be able to get him onto big Kings in Sydney would also be greatly appreciated! Tom
  18. Totally agree mate, the baitrunner is just an extra feature. I can still fish it normally with locked up drag. I just think it would be handy to have that feature for when i target some jewies down the Hawkesbury.
  19. mate, all the baitrunner system does is basically put it on freespool. As soon as the reel starts screaming all you have to do is one wind then it returns to normal drag. If the fish is big then it will reef you either way..
  20. Yeh, i think thats the best option for me. Thanks!
  21. I will be doing mostly rod holder fishing so it should be okay. Is it worth getting the live liner which has a baitrunner mechanism? Apart from that is there much of a difference between the two? Tom
  22. Hey mate, im a little late but i also regularly hire boats from here. We normally hire them around 7am till 1pm. We basically head out to west head and pick up a dozen yakkas then off to a little spot off Coasters retreat where we tangle with flathead, salmon lost a jewie here too. This time of year you'll get plently off flathed on the livies fished on the bottom. Got a 55cm specimen last time. Scotland island for kings definitely. Kings on the surface at barrenjoey and troll some lures off west head for tailor, salmon and bonnies!
  23. Hey raiders, Have just got back from overseas and really am desperate to get back into some good fishing. I have one jewie/kingie set up currently being an 8000 Shimano Baitrunner matched to a Silstar crystal blue powertip 6-8kg. I plan on getting another outfit. I was thinking a Penn Spinfisher 760L matched with maybe an 8-10kg rod. Any suggestions about a rod that may be suitable. Also, Penn also make the live liner and the slammer. Are these a better option than the spinfisher? Tom
  24. Hey guys, i normally dont have trouble catching yakkas but for some reason i never get many off wharves. I fish balmoral a bit and maybe get a couple on a little hook rig but i would like to know if i should be able to get them on a jig here. Maybe i cant get them on a jig because the water is only 4 meters deep and they might get spooked? Any ideas?

    Balmoral

Mate, Definitely Balmoral. I have fished there a few times in the last few months. I had a god haul of 2 legal trevally, 52cm flathead, Squid and 2 blue swimmer crabs. I usually fish with 3 rods. One with a live yakka, ganged pillie or bonito fillet. Another with a prawn and the last with either a pilli cutlet ot fillet. Always get flatheads on the prawns while you are mre likely in tapping into a salmon, bonito or king on a livie. Lots of trevally arund the wharf. Just drop a handline over the side with a tiny piece of prawn or pilli and i got a 32cm trev like this! good luck!
