mate - thats awesome!!!
i just moved into the area (cammeray), so if you want an extra pair of hands or just some company on those early mornings gimme a buzz. i start work at 8:30ish also. couldnt think of a better way to spend a morning !
see what does that mean ?
last time i was at the lake, 2 weeks ago, we used berly, we fished multiple spots - various reefs, dropoffs, rock ledges, marinas, cardinal markers. we drifted different baits and used soft plastics.
we didnt get a bite
correct - recent changes have banned bait fishingright along the south maroubra headland
edit: heres the link with the info: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/species-protection/conservation/what-current/critically/grey-nurse-shark/new-fishing-and-diving-rules
i went out on sat with some mates. fished for 8 hrs. literally all day. berleyed hard, fished drop-offs, structure, reefs, went out into the channel and tried every trick in the book. not even a single bite ALL DAY !
like you said - no pickers, no little fish, nothing on the sounder...nothing
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/sydney-news/fishers-warned-of-a-swell-weekend/story-e6freuzi-1226489202523
southerly swell which could reach up to 3m on exposed beaches and rock platforms is due either late Saturday or early Sunday.
But, crucially it will be a "long interval swell."
im a hawks supporter and was at the game - gotta say, what an epic contest.
seriously how good does 100,000 people screaming at the same time sound, when that final goal was kicked.
although it was the wrong result , what a game !!!
glad the swannies won really - they definitely deserve it
try just infront of the island in the middle of balmoral beach
its 3-5 m deep, lots of weed/structure.
burley up and if they come you know your on the money
cook pellets all the way!
i crush a 1/2dozen pillies in some water ( really fine - like a mist), add about 50ml of tuna oil and about 1kg of chook pellets - can even add old bread broken up !
add some water so it just covers the pellets, and mix it all up then let soak for 10-20 min.
pellets absorb the water and break up in the bucket. should be able to spoon out the mixture a little at a time. the above amount will be constant berly for a day trip out.
cheap as chips, easy to make and effective !
i dont hate the storm - i hate all the other NRL sides because they are lazy !!!
the storm are so focused and, as you say clinical, the other NRL sides have no excuse but to adapt to these new tactics to remain competitive !!
im a doggies supporter, and a hawks supporter in the AFL - so this weekend is a big one for me.
but if the "storm dynasty" happened in AFL - it would have lasted half a season before the other teams caught onto these new tactics - not fkn 7 years !!!
the hawks (coach clarkson really) pioneered new interchange rotation tactics, flooding defensive line tactics - these were game changing and really only lasted less than a year before everyone was doing it
seriously there is no reason a football team should be in the grand final 5 out of the last 7 years - dont get me wrong they deserve it (cap or not) but the other NRL sides just sux. they just dont come close
sry about the rant - one too many beers after work
hey mate - long time
went to flat rock in curlcurl sat arvo, just after low tide . was fairly busy but slow
sun mornig went to old mans hat. never been there with the swell from the south, thought id give it a look as reports were swell was fairly flat - When i got there it looked like a 1m ground swell. got hairy so we packed up early. wont do that again!
saw 2 big schools busting up near the point about 200m away. summers looking promising
whats with all these huge squid - lots of bait around and water's too cold for the kingies so the squid are cleaning up ???
mate thats massive - well done !
headed out sat afternoon - was pretty slow (after a very slow morning trying to catch some squid). managed some borderline bream and as dusk settled, landed a nice sambo. all released to fight another day
got down to my fav ledge sun morning, but it was pretty washed out. got there an hour before high tide, and it was starting to get narly, so packed up and left. saw plenty of schools busting up about 200m away. wishing i was in a boat !
its going to be a good summer - i can feel it !
im in awe!
being the worlds worst squid fisherman, i spent 5 hours yesterday morning, land based, walking the shore for nothing.
this gives me hope lol!
im no expert on jewies, but for beach fishing it sounds like you need a heavier sinker and like Gatts suggested, one designed to dig into the sand Ie: star sinker
not sure what rig / bait your using but try these:
1) when using gangs: i like to put a swivel directly onto the set of gangs. helps heaps with line twist
2a) livies - sinker above the hook: star sinker rigged running on main line. swivel. leader with livie
2b) livies - sinker below the hook(casts further): mainline - swivel - leader, about 1m, to star sinker (fixed). shorter (about 1/2 meter) offshoot for livie
3) good old paternoster: mainline - swivel - about 1m length of leader. tie a loop at the end and attach your star sinker (so its fixed). tie dropper loops into the leader about a forearm apart
hi All
was planning a day out but a mates pulled out last min and im wondering if anyones keen to join me.
weather + swell looks perfect for some rock fishing somewhere on the northern beaches.
cheers
as others have said - stones give you the best edge - but it takes skill, and patience to learn.
Its all about getting the right angle and keeping it constant - hell you can even use the underside of a ceramic coffee mug to sharpen your knives using the same method
i get a good edge using stones - but not a great one.
for 30 bucks i got myself a pull through sharpener from a retail knife store. super quick, easy, and has kept my knives sharp for years - takes 1min to get a great edge, and can do it on a rocky boat
