    LB Kings

plenty of spots in and around the harbour. Spit bridge, middle head, little manly, north head, clifton gardens. kinda hard to say.... go here, they do move around - which makes it hard for us LB ppl just remember to get some fresh bait, pick your time to go and you should hook up
  7. which leads into the next Q'n... storage how do you store / transport all those lures ??? big 100g poppers... jig heads, packets of SP, little vibes, metal slugs, jigs. OMG the list goes on !
  8. you could try the shakespeare reel - the sigma 2200. http://www.purefishing.com.au/reels/shakespeare/spin/sigma-2200-spin/ ive got the 70size. its built like a brick shitehouse, which is great for on the stones. Holds a heck of a lot of line. Fast retrieve ratio. smooth action and really good drag i looked at the sealine bull, but decided on this as money was a big factor and the sigma is quite a bit cheaper - even got $90 worth of braid on it. Have been super happy with it.

  11. g'day mate theres alot of info on this site and 90% of the time the question has been asked before. i did a quick search of the forum and came up with this, which might be helpful (as ive not ventured down to the obelisk ledge, but know of it). and yes, when the swell is coming directly into the harbor this place can get dicey. 2 fisherman were washed in earlier in May http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=6429&st=0&p=57608&hl=+obelisk%20+beach&fromsearch=1entry57608
  12. north head - 30g twisty - caught a sizable bonito. was spinning from the ledge all day for nothing, had that sinking feeling and about to give up when BAM outta nowhere i hooked up. That sent the blood rushing !
  13. nice read. great report. brings back memories from when i was in melb 5 yrs ago. Although we didnt have the "luck" you had could you elaborate abit on what you mean by "berly hard". How much is hard and how do you disperse it? i think this is the last piece of my puzzle, that i haven't quite figured out yet
  14. Julianne's rock is well known for being a dangerous area to fish in anything but the smallest swell; cleats are a must and never fish it alone as the rocks are quite tricky and as there is no protection from swell of any direction. Locality - Julianne's rock (little bay), northern side of little bay low and moderately high ledges Parking - Good - park at the access gate near cyclone mesh fence on Randwick Golf Course in Bilga Cres, or through murra murra place ample parking available. Public Transport Accessible - Yes get State Transit Buses to Bilga Cres Distance from civilization - 15 to 20 mins to nearest residential houses Ease of Access and how to access - an easy but precarious climb down a gully wear your cleats or spike boots then it is a scramble around the cliff line to your right over boulders pack light and minimise what you need to carry you may get a little wet coming bavk at high tide as you need to cross a low reef near Julianne ledge, its okay in a NE to E swell anything from the south makes access difficult! When to fish it - All year in low swells from the East to North East or no swell at all fishable in a NE swell up to 1.25 metres its a low to moderately high ledge depending where you stand here and can get wet and dicey best fished on the run out but can be fished on the run in. When not to fish it - In any swell above 0.5 - 0.75 metre from the South or South East, Has it knowingly claimed a lot of lives? No but there have been a few fatalities here by anglers fishing alone in adverse sea conditions Target species - From mack tuna to bonnies to slmon and kingies its the estern suburbs premier spinning ledge with deep water but it also turns on massive amounts of trevally, bream and luderick and even the odd snapper, it gets busy when the fish are on here so be early! Also can be reliable for live yakkas and squid at times Phone reception - Its okay I recommend being with Tels Angel Rings accesible - Not on the main ledge there is a metal spike driven in to the rock in the event of an unexpected wave but do not use this as an excuse to fish it in adverse or dangerous seas. Ease of escape - not easy you have to make the scramble back around the boulders, if the weather or swell turns here I recommend you pack up and leave because it is not one place you want to get caught there is a series of high ledges above the spot on the cliff line if you do find yourself stranded high you can safely sit out any turn in the weather but it is not recommended either get off while you can and go home or to another safer ledge. TIP for Julianne - fish it in the right conditions and it will reward, summer is the best for surface species and winter for the bread and butters respect the ledge and it will pay dividends . Recommend taking A PFD, cleats are a MUST and a 20 metre life line this essentially is 20 metres of rope with a tennis ball on one end if someone does go in the ball is thrown to them and they can then grab the rope and be hauled back in when the waves subside! But then should you be there in these conditions, I strongly advise to stand at the top of the ravine and watch the spot for 10 mins to ensure that it is fish-able, and don't go down if you unsure about it even if others are going down, being unsure leads to making mis-informed calls and could cost you your life theres other spots! Safe fishing at this spot folks and check these links before going Safety tips: - Check the weather before you go ! http://www.coastalwatch.com/ http://www.bom.gov.au/index.shtml http://www.seabreeze.../graphs/nsw.asp
  15. Location:Browns Rock This a safe water fishing spot being fairly high up from the water and also having the protection of henrys’ head toward the mouth of the bay, the only thing with this spot is it’s fairly open to wind, having access to fairly deep water with a broken rocky sand floor it’s a great place to try for a range of fish with either bottom bashing or float fishing being the standout options, access to browns rock is along the henry’s head walking track (although there is a sign pointing browns rock out) you can park inside the golf course there and make your way down. Rubbish seems to be a large problem here even though there is a bin provided. Species to target would be kingfish, salmon bonito, bream and flathead. Best fished in a wind with an esterly or nor easterly aspect it is hard to fish wit ha southerly and do not fish it in a big southerly swell ebven though it is high up it can still get quite wet and a slip could prove fatal, access is good and ther eis a short walk from the bus terminal. BE AWARE it gets crowded so get there early or look for an alternate spot
  16. Located off of military reserve, hill 60 is another great rock fishing location (funny enough another one located near a sewage treatment plant) from here you can spin, livebait or wash fish and expect to catch all the regulars that the rocks are known for, Kings, salmon, bonito and various other small tuna’s and pelagics. The washes also fish well for bream and drummer and the like during winter. Again use caution fishing here as you are pretty open to all kinds of weather best fished in a light to moderate swell with little to no wind.
  17. Locality – South Avoca Rocks, southern end of Avoca, large ledge with low and moderate high areas to fish. Parking - Good – Parking available on Avoca drive. Public Transport Accessible - Yes trains run from Sydney to Gosford, and bus services are available from Gosford to Avoca. Distance from civilization – 5 to 10 mins to nearest residential houses, and local business Ease of Access and how to access – Access to the ledge is easy, walk to the beach end of the car park turn right and follow the steps down to the sand then back up the rock ledge, best to wear cleats from the start of the ledge as there is a lot of red weed on the rocks which can make walking rather difficult. When to fish it - All year in low to moderate swells once the swell, best fished in a north easterly swell of less than 1.7metres, in southerly swell the rocks can get quite wet and the odd larger wave can wash the entire ledge, there are a few high points to fish from along the ledge but these do not offer complete safety from the swell. When not to fish it - In any swell above 1.6- metre from the South or South East, Has it knowingly claimed a lot of lives? Over the years yes Avoca has claimed lives, both from anglers and swimmers using the ledge as a diving point, the plaques on the wall are a tribute to those who have died here. Target species – From fishing the washes for Luderick, Drummer, Bream, Snapper to live baiting for Salmon, Tailor, Kingfish, Long tail Tuna and Cobia, it is also worth noting that there have been remarkable catches of both Spanish and Spotted mackerel and Marlin over the years, spinning from the rocks is also a viable option from here with captures of Bonito and Salmon quite a regular occurrence. Phone reception – The phone reception is quite good Angel Rings accessible – Yes there is an angel ring available for use on site, the beach is also patrolled by the Avoca beach lifesaving club. Ease of escape – As the ledge is quite flat an angler can see a wave coming from a distance, each wave should be judged on it's own merit, if the weather turns foul it is advisable to leave the ledge for a safer location and walk back to the car along the cliff face as waves can and do break over the ledge and flood it in adverse seas. TIP for Avoca – When fished safely and in the right conditions it will be worth the crowds, once the warmer currents start to push down around November/ December the live baiting and surface spinning action for cruising pelagics really comes into it's own with the cooler months of the year being the time for the finesse of the wash fisherman taking home good bags of Luderick, bream and drummer. Cleats are a must at this location as previously stated the ledges are quite slippery here due to the amount of red weed growing on the rocks and when the weed is dry it can still cause a nasty slip! Always fish with a friend or group and never take risks as the formation of the rocks can cause swell activity to be unpredictable at times. Safe fishing at this spot folks and check these links before going http://www.surf-fore...f8fng7459sbkj61 http://www.avocabeac...c.asn.au/about/ http://www.coastalwatch.com/ http://www.bom.gov.au/index.shtml
  18. cheers thx fellas - will keep it in mind
  19. lol Stormy you must be a filleting machine with the amount of blackies you pull in... by luck ! also kudos for trying to educate rockhoppers - the message just doesnt seem to be getting through !!! The nanny country we live in will "regulate" rock fishing soon enough
  20. Hi All i just purchased a 80mm wriggler with a size #1, 1/8 jig heads for flicking around the harbor shore - aiming for flatties/ bream. tried on Sunday with no success - im wondering if the 1/8 head weight is too heavy? Having never used SP before, Ive been reading up and the general consensus is Go Light ie: 1/16, 1/24. Will it make enough difference that i should re-buy? Also -2nd Qn - how do you cast such a light weight ???
  21. g'day raiders decided to get some fresh squid to target kingies. Hit up Clifton gardens yesterday morning. Lots of baby squid around but easily spooked. Changed to a small jig, lighter leader and a 6ft leader length (swivel was spooking them). Managed to entice a few to take the jig but dropped all 3. met some nice blokes and one gave me some pillies which i put on a squid spike but that wasnt touched either. Went very quiet when the full sun came up so called it . hit up spit bridge this morning for squid also. Nothing. just so happened i met one of the guys from yesterday morning - small world on the stones Around 9am i noticed a shadow behind my jig. got all excited but it turned out to be a large kingy - at least 80cm. Followed my jig all the way back to the rocks then swam off. I changed as quick as i could to a Soft Plastic - 7" jerk shad and tried for the next hour for doughnuts.
  22. mate your in LBG heaven and hell. The central coast is one of the best LBG areas in the world. Places like snapper point and wybung head are renowned hotspots. Unfortunately they are also the most deadly ledges with a death count in the hundreds !!! Most of the top LBG spots involve deep water right to the edge of the rocks. It involves countless hours of sitting on the rocks waiting. Hauling gear and livies a long way to hard to get to locations . plenty on info on google or use the search function here
  23. actually walked along the wall towards the baths at the north end yesterday - heaps of big mullet milling around, and on sunset there were a load of fish jumping and feeding. lots of activity in the lake. Good for a bit of fun i reckon
  24. hi all for some reason i always seem to have trouble with this knot, but this youtube vid makes it so much easier to understand. Its helped me so i thought id share the first 1:20sec is all intro... enjoy
  25. mate i feel for ya. Sounds like your doing everything right, so keep at it. Frazer beach in the national park was where i caught my PB salmon last year. went nearly 90cm. It was one of those days where the sky was dark and the water was angry! you really need to pick your gutter too ! Are you getting hits and not hooking up? also maybe try some berly. rip apart a pilly into about 10 tiny peices and drop them at your feet. let the wash take them out. that way the birds dont get em either. Each time i rebait i drop a pilly worth of berly. have you tried a different rig ? the running sinker to gangs is a tried and tested one, but maybe try a 2 hook paternoster. Goto your tackle shop and ask for a premade surf popper rig. they are bout 3 to 5 bucks and come with a plastic surf popper on the top hook, and ganged 4/0 on the bottom. Add a sinker and Just attach it to you line and bait up. i find these the easiest as they dont tangle. You can make your own, but buy the 1st one and see how its done. PM me if you want to make em. they look something like this:
