  1. I had an anchor ball and gave it away as I was not going out past Lion Island anymore. I will get the 6mm chain and shorten as you say and give it ago and then if needed an anchor ball. Thanks for the replies .... Fred Flathead.
  2. I have a sand anchor it would be the largest with the links 10mmm. The deckie is 73yrs old. I fish mainly Cowan Creek and Berowra Creek an anchor winch would be out of the question at this stage. I do have a small sand anchor I think I will try it next time out and have the other on board.
  3. I have a 5.2m Caribeen Crest Cutter and the anchor chain is the length of the boat. I now having trouble pulling up the anchor (just turned 77 last week), am I getting too old or are my links too large What is the size for the links that others use.
  4. I just went through the same project my old caribeen crest cutter 1974 came back from a day out and water just poured out. I decided that the hull needed to be fiberglass went to a shipwright and he looked at the boat walked on the floor and showed how it flexed and looked at the transom and said whoever put the motor on 5 yrs. ago should not have done it as the transom was spongy. The cost would be around $30,000 it would be better to buy a good second hand and start again. He helped with choosing and inspecting the boat. It turned out to be a 1989 Caribeen Crest Cutter in terrific condition we changed over my ETEC and trailer and I could not be happier like the others said I would walk away. The total cost for the new boat was $11,500 the changeover of the motor and trailer $1,500 and checking electrics so got out of it for half the cost. He charged $250 for the inspection best money I have ever spent
  5. Just purchased a Caribbean Crest Cutter and it is being detailed. The footrest has a trim that is like a H and inserted into the timber with a gold and black trim, where do I get this type of trim or is there another trim that will go over the timber. The timber is about 12mm so something may be out there. I don't have photos as the boat is not back yet. Thanks norm
  6. Thanks for the reply. The bow roller has a pin so this would be the safety feature.
  7. After having a 1974 Carribean Crest Cutter for 31 years it finally has gone to God. I purchase another Crest Cutter 1989 in beautiful condition checked out by a Shipwright who said it was a good solid boat (I loved my Crest Cutter) and it came with a slotted cross bollard. The original Crest Cutter had a bollard with a hole and the rope came through the new/secondhand boat has a slotted cross bollard. My question when travelling on the water does the chain go through the cross and lock off and the rope goes through the hatch into the storage bay. My first boat the anchor was stored in the pvc pipe like everyone uses.
  8. I have a caribeen crest cutter 18.5ft half cabin, I gave away my second anchor to my BIL and now I need a second anchor. My front anchor is a sand anchor and all I need is to hold boat square across the current. What do people have as their second anchor. thanks norm
  9. Haven't been doing much fishing but now back into it.
  10. I have a chain sock that goes along the chain to protect the side of the boat and makes it quieter as well when pulling up the anchor. The picture shows the sock off.
  11. Thanks, I am going to make sure that it is long and put a cap on the bottom with to let the water.
  12. I have a piece of PVC pipe 100mm x 1m and looking to make a holder for my anchor. Has any one done this and have a photo of how the top of the pipe is cut or not. I have 2 stainless steel hose clamps for fitting to the rail. I have seen this done at the boat ramp but never bother to take a photo. thanks norm
  13. It is important to get your license for VHF as you are on commercial channels and don't want idiots interfering with their work channels.
  14. He was a very nice bloke and seemed to be happy that I was wearing a life jacket and I could answer all of his questions about when everything expired. I'd recently found a sticker where you could write on the dates that everything expires and it was beside my two EPIRBS that he could see. Where do you get this sticker, I think this is great

    GPS

I don't think the RAAF was pinching your fishing spots or checking on your catch. I live at Richmond NSW and Hercules fly over my place every day about 600 ft. I hunt so I check my GPS (3 in total) regularly so that I have them working, this is done by putting them on the table in the backyard and leaving them for the day this way I check that they are recording the same position, planes fly over all day however they are not like Mascot with the jets. Believe it they are quite.
  16. I buy the normal prawning nets and replace them with a longer net that I buy at Toukley. You remove the pop rivets or cut just below the crimp thread the net onto the aluminium frame and put the two ends into the handle you flatten the handle end so the two pieces go in and pop rivet it. I then put insulation tape around so there are sharp points. On the end of the net I thread a 3mm cord with a cord clamp (can't think of the name) so when you have your prawns in the bottom you undo the clamp and they fall into your bucket remember to do the cord up again, this is the easiest way I found to get you prawns out. The prawning gurus at The Entrance showed all of this they are great bunch.
  17. Would love to have the email they send you and will laminate it when I go. Thanks to all for the replies.
  18. Sea Ranger that is the piece I was looking for and had read. I agree the DPI sight is hard to read think I will be right through the week. Thanks to all the replies Norm
  19. Rebel I read it too and cannot find Berowra Creek. Tried to ring DFI fisheries and can only leave messages.
