  1. The only part you will need rock plates is the middle lower section which has the weeds i have warned about. The other sections is as flat as you can get for a rock ledge (usual cracks and puddle ponds).
  2. Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone has given the newly built wharf/pier over at Rhodes a go? It's directly opposite the Meadowbank wharf under the railway bridge. Have been thinking about giving it a go since i live around there but would like to know if anyone has hit anything there so i can travel light instead of lugging around a bag full of experimental baits and lures. Thanks in advance.
  3. North Side, There are 3 fishable ledges 2 good ones and 1 that if you have a 9 or 12 foot rod then it is bearable. Middle ledge has two parts, a high and a low. The high section is closer to where the waves break and creates a nice water spout, you are about 1.5 to 2 meters from water level depending on tide so if you do catch a fish/squid you can either Gaff or lift (I only fish there when i am lazy as it has a nice wedge for my butt and it feels like you are sitting in a chair). Low section of the middle ledge is 0.5 - 1 meter from water level and can get wet depending on swell (currently has weed covering the rocks so is slippery when wet). This is my favourite spot to spin for Bonito/Salmon/Tailor/KingFish or to dangle my feet in the water when the tide is high and the swell is low catching the bi-catches of makerel/yellowtails/trevally/bream/snapper/squid. Outside ledge is 2-2.5 meters from water level and fits roughly 5-6 people comfortably, more if everyone knows how to fish (patient and understanding when lines tangle). There is a bottom ledge to this section also which is about 0.5-1 meter from water level but can only be used on low swells and by people who keep an eye on the waves. This ledge is the best place for large squids, you'll also catch the other fish mentioned above but the bi-catches are not as frequent (Your Pilchards are safer at this ledge). If squids are what you are after and there are no spots here 100 meters behind there is another rocky point (rocks are pointy and not comfortable to sit on) where squids are in abundance and you get chances at the bonitos and salmon. It faces the same direction but has a larger weed patch and you can watch the barreling surf while you flick you squid jig about. The Thump Thump sound is pretty soothing. Inner ledge is the 9-12 foot rod area where i don't fish as i only sport 7-8 foot rods, you'll catch the bonitos and salmon here on good days but due to it being 3-4 meters from water level i tend to ignore it. If you do go down to Hill60 and don't understand what i mean by inner/middle/outer then look for the life bouy...if it is behind you then you are at the middle ledge Regards Trung Ohh forgot to mention that it is a south facing fishing spot so if you have that dreaded southerly then best to head to Bass Point.
  4. Prawns have been running for the past 2 weeks
  5. Hill 60 produced a bagged out supply of squid on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, preferred color of jig was green but the others were also producing decent results. The hand sized squids started the session off at close to sunset and when it got dark the bigger fellas came out to play. There were also a plague number of mackerels the size of your forearm for the kids to have a go at. Taken on practically anything you threw into the water, spinners, plastics and squid tentacles on sinker-less long shanks. Activity usually started at around 6.30pm after a great day in the surf cooling down from the scorching heat. Tried throwing a squid out on Sunday morning hoping for a kingie but the only offering was a 1.5 meter shark.....caught twice in the space of 30 minutes!! The little fella now looks like a catfish with 2 feelers out of his mouth because i had to cut the leader as i was unable to get him out of the water to remove the hook. It's starting to shape up to be a good season. LungFai P.S. For those who wish to hit Hill60 please be aware that there has been alot of growth of weed on the rock platforms and when wet are extremely slippery, please use caution when fishing there.
  6. Hasn't been that bad. Bass Point has been generating good size Blackfish and the Bream have been active at dawn and dusk but for some reason get spooked when the sun is at peak, must be my ugly mug they see The Lake should fire up when the prawns start their run, usually Early/Mid November. Hill 60 Squid are still around, taken on chopstick threaded yellowtail jigs. Home made squid jigs, dirty smelling putrid things but the squid seem to like em. Port Kembla Breakwall (southern) Tip where the white painted rocks are gave me a few 40cm tailors on ganged pillies, undersized snappers, and what i swear was a 120cm Jew fish....well that's the story i like to tell since it took my yakka for a run and never returned. I'll get him when i get back from the states in November. Can't wait for November/December when the Bonnies come to play...great fun on light gear.
  7. Name plaque your spot with your raider username and the Raiders who know will move from ya spot when you go "That's mah spot"
  8. that's some serious collection of jigs there, puts to shame my 1 jig that i carry around as back-up if i can't catch a yakka to slide onto the home made chopstick jig
  9. Sounds like my weekend down south. Saturday with the southerly hit up Bass point for a quick morning spin session. Sambo's were busting up the water but hard as i try, there was no way i was going to get my lure out 300 meters Landed a small bream on a slow retrieve as my arms were tiring which was a surprise, let him swim away as i grabbed my pack and jumped into the car and headed for PKCT. Arrived to a crowd of peeps throwing out pilchards on floats, once again the Sambo's were out of reach and an occasional one would tickle a float. Spent 2 hours spinning for 1 near hook up. Sambo busted the water taking lure in mouth but due to the direction it hit the line was too slack for a proper strike and it spat out the metal tasting fish Packed up and headed to Hill 60 for a spin before a squid session, 1st cast and BAM the lure gets smashed and up comes a decent 50cm Sambo. Back in he went and out flys the lure again in the hope of a nice session......silence. Ohh well the squid jig took over from there, landed 2 for dinner so i packed up and headed to Windang to try my luck for a decent Bream or Jew. Cleaned the squid, used the left over un-edible parts for bait, sparked up the U-Bute and sat there eating my squid watching the rod stay motionless. 12am rolled around and i packed up and headed home to Sydney. A days fishing for a feed of BBQ squid, not too bad a day but damn was it cold. Can't wait for what Summer will bring.
  10. Warn us where you are heading next so we can avoid the area
  11. Annaconda Auburn lets you test Kayaks in their water feature out front, they stock both the sit in and sit on. Outdoors and Beyond...well now known as Sailing Scene or something down in Caringbah has a range of the Hobie Kayaks (Pedal) which you were able to arrange a test run...not sure if they still offer the test runs now with the name change.
  12. You see any surface action on the water? Was down there 3 weeks back and the Sambo's were on like a plague of slimeys.
  13. Mowbray Park Farm is a nice little place just south of Sydney, Picton way. Horse riding, kids club, typical farm animals and a Dam full of Bass
  14. There's a nice place in the middle of Bangkok which would be perfect for you the kid and the missus. Bungsamran Cottage type accommodation with City Shopping for the missus a short drive away. Best part about it? You can fish off your Patio But i'm pretty sure you were hoping for somewhere in Aus Which state/city you looking at?
  15. Hi Stinkbait, Sounds like you are doing the right thing but if people around you are pulling in fish and you are not getting hit then you may need to check your rigging. Proper sized hooks, lines, sinkers etc will give you better chances of hooking up. Good Luck.
  16. Yeah but lugging around your air compressor would be a pain A can of WD40 is much lighter and quieter than an Air Compressor attached to ya 4WD.
  17. You can make one of these yourself, the schematics is on google. Other names for it will be fruit cannon, orange launcher, pipe cannon. Basically it's a PVC tube attached to a screw top L joint. Basic plumbing gear. Modify the screw cap with a BBQ ignition button. Modify the joint area to accommodate your sinker when you slide it down the barrel forming a plug. open screw cap, spray in some WD40, close cap to trap in gas. Ignite with a button push and voila a home made cannon. Made these back when i was a teenager....they are illegal in the eyes of Law as they are considered an illegal firearm....be easier to buy a Paintball gun with a gun license and using that to fire your rig over the waves....won't be as effective though
  18. There's a burb down south of Wollongong called Windang that is pretty cheap. http://www.realestateworld.com.au/real-estate/for-sale/residential/windang/page-1.aspx You can pick up a demountable home in the Oasis Village for under 100k. Close to Port Kembla/Shellharbour/Wollongong for offshore boat ramps and Windang's boat ramp gives you access to Lake Illawarra. 1.15 hours away from Sydney City, 40 mins to Port Hacking, 50 mins to Botany Bay 1 hour to Jervis Bay, 2 and a bit to Batemans, 40 mins to the southern highlands...you get my drift 2 tackle shops, small convenience store, 2 Thai restaurants, 1 Italian restaurant and a Pizzaria, Pub across the street as well as a driving range for those days when the south easterly is blowing. Got a place just south of Windang in Warrilla, and love waking up in the morning, picking up the rods and strolling across to the lake to catch my breakfast whiting. Trung
  19. Looks like the Kingie was lost and Confused and thought the Ryde bridge was the Harbour Bridge
  20. Hi elferoz. Noticed your form down south. There is a spot on the north end of the sea cliff bridge just before coal cliff that have noticed a few times on my drives and was wondering if you've fished it? Googled mapped it and saw someone upload pics of people fishing the spot but didn't see their Riggs. Wouldn't happen to know what species lurk there would you?
  21. I'm of Asian background and when I get groups of guys trying to muscle in my spot I start doing the beginner fisherman act. Casting and accidentally flip he bail arm back just as I am about to release. Yanking lures or rigs out of the water when it is just at the waters edge sending the lure flying over my head. Surprising how people avoid your space for fear of a hook in their face.
  22. Hi Kirst, Do you bait and rig your own set up? If so can you tell me what the main factor was that made you decide to do it yourself? I can't seem to get the wife to do her own baiting and rigging. She loves fishing but hates touching anything fishy heh. Took her on a charter and the entire time we were out there i spent baiting and de-hooking....was sooo much fun for me As for Burley i get the home brand bread and homebrand canned Tuna. Rip up the bread, pour over the canned Tuna juice over the bread, let soak, put into your bucket and voila. If you have left over bread you can make yourself a tuna sandwhich snack while you sit there waiting for the fish to bite.

LOL about the Asian Fella dem types of Asian never learn, they really should increase the fishery peeps down there especially during the holiday periods when THIS asian fella goes down for a flick and sees shit like that happening. This Asian Fella does not hold back with dumbass undersize keeping asian mofos, especially his dumbass asian uncles who do the same crap who then end up in the drink with a swift kick to the rear end. They really do need to realise the days of feeding large families with whatever they catch is gone. Caught 13 legal size flatties last weekend on SP's all released, not to fond of them. A few undersized Bream and a whiting on worms. Looks to be a good start to the fishing season. Also went for a Prawn, got 2 kilos of the 4-6cm varieties over near the holiday park near the driving range but be warned, the mud there is a killer to walk through.
  24. Upsidedown is the way i use it but i don't use floats anymore either as they cost a bundle I rig on a piece of foam, works the same but casting it is a pain. The leader is usually 1.5m - 2m, depends on how long your rod is. When you are reeling it in do it with jerks to cause it to splash, the more splash the more interested they become. It's hard work and i usually sit around and let all the energetic guys do the luring and once there is a good frenzy i get into the action
  25. You are probably after something that is like a soft plastic squid muppet. It's not really the squid/lure that attracts the Bonito, it's the popping of the float (rigged upside down) that does that.....but the lure then entices them to attack. I used to pick them up cheap....$1 each, not sure how much they are now as i just make my own. A couple of thick threads tied to a hook and frayed *shrug* works for me. Oh and it pays to have a variety of colors, sometimes the pink goes off, sometimes the blue, but the white ones seems more consistant
