  1. If the fishing project happens can i suggest the first place to be a Carp infested stream? Teach the kids and help the eco system at the same time
  2. That island that faces north to the Bowlo is the spot the other fellas are referring to. It's called picnic island, google it if you want. At low tide you'll notice a sand bar pop up close to the island, that's where you wade out onto so you can fish the small channel between the Middle sand bar (the one you see at half bridge) and the Island. If you want to fish off the bridge then you'll want the western side (the one that faces towards dapto/tallawarra) southern end aka Warrilla side not Windang side. If you are not keen to wade but want action near the water then walk further up the track on picnic island to the sand flats. These *secret* locations are not so secret anymore these days but the amount of people are usually still small compared to the caravan side (Boat Ramp side) and the Bowls (new fishing pier/sand bank). Best of luck. Trung

    Weird Prawn

Then it's a Macrobrachium usually restricted to fresh water, how big was it?

    Weird Prawn

Hmmm looks like a Macrobrachium rosenbergii (river Prawn) which is found in the asian continents, but over there they are blue. I have never heard of them being caught here.
  5. Get a GoPro. Mount it underneath ya tinnie. Whip out the iphone or android phone. Boot up the GoPro app and Voila, full colour with real life feed back . Now if only there was a thermo lens attachment or night vision lens, you can then stalk that Jew fish to his hole
  6. 20lbs is overkill for bonnies, 15lbs max, 10lbs is preferred, 8lbs hell fun, 6lbs is what i have been using for kicks and have been busted off a few times but most times i land them......the most trouble is getting the buggers onto the rocks without using a net
  7. Hopefully you went out today for the Bonnies, conditions were good, the weekend looks horrid again.
  8. Haven't seen any of the tinnies in there struggle and they have roughly the same HP, and the kayaks can drift up and down so it should be good. If in doubt pick a time around the flat tide to get out Any reason you chose the bridge? Lake illawarra has many other places to fish besides the bridge and that place gets congested on the weekends.
  9. Back in the 50's and 60's Don't think the bridge has been referred to as Lake Illawarra Bridge for a while now, most people call it Windang bridge. The guys were reminiscing back to the days when the bridge was built (think the early 40's) . As for your question in regards to fishing there in your tinnie, there are 2 channels you can choose to fish. The main channel is at the northern end of the bridge and the other the southern end. Just anchor up 20m or so from the bridge but close to the middle sand bar and you can cast directly under the bridge. Good place to catch Bream.
  10. This has made my Friday morning.
  11. Yeah it was shoulder to shoulder but the locals are a good bunch who know when the fish is on its all good an fun to share. Crossed line were laughed off as we jeered each other in regards to size, I swear that 30cm frigate pulled as hard as a 50cm bonito Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. South Wall is usually always open and you do catch Jews on it. As for Bass Point, I was let off the leash for 2 hours yesterday and made a bee line to Bass point given the conditions. The swell was moderate but not deadly and boy was the action on. If i kept any of the fish i caught i would have bagged out in 30 minutes. Bonito's and Frigates galore. All ended when the pregnant wife called and told me to get back to go maternity clothes shopping. So i packed up and left the fish still on the chew. Half way back to the gong (windang) the wife calls and says she found a ride with the bro inlaw so i make a pit stop and see if i can get a few flatties, 10 minutes into wetting a line i get the dreaded call "I need you to see if it looks good" But anyways, if you are planning a trip to Bass Point, the old blokes have told me that it's been hectic for the past 2 weeks......and i should come back more often to visit my mum
  13. Hey elf, Good to hear you found and are trying out bass point As for the rod and reel set up, 7-8 foot 2-5 kg or around that rods should be your choice paired with a 2500 or a 2000. Plenty of good cheap choices out there. I got the wife a Daiwa crossfire and she loves it. The sienna range in shimano are cheap and decent enough to pull in those bonitos and salmons, but a rat king might give you some probs hehehe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Has anyone tried Fish sauce as a gulp juice alternative?
  15. What method of fishing would it be? Dynamite would do wonders to reduce the carp population there
  16. It was a Bream worth $5000.....tasted like a Bream Wish i could say the same when the goes and buys a "tagged" handbag.
  17. It's more than 5 tagged fish, they tag and release roughly 5 a day to increase the chance of winning the prize as the days go by. They tag your usual bread and butter fish and the occasional Jew just for kicks. Winner is the first person to claim. I know a guy who caught, ate and disposed of the left-overs (tag included) the first year they started doing the promo. We had no idea it was a prize fish until the old man told us of rumors of a competition starting up. They had released the first fish for photo's for the promo which had not started yet and the bugger was caught before it even started. Jason you missed it by a week, imagine knowing you won it a month in advance but threw it away
  18. Nah, was only 1 prize. Next year bring a spear and if ya see the tag, spear the bugger
  19. Have you checked out this thread? http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=58795 Plenty of spots you could use in there in conjunction with the spots fellow raiders have recommended.
  20. Should have tried throwing a knife at it and hoped it impaled it
  21. Will be interesting to see the 8ft waves on the surfcam, at present Avoca Beach looks flat and has 2 surfers, wonder how many will be there on Friday and Sat
  22. It's funny how you keep reporting on here the amounts of flathead being caught yet when I go down to Windang I find the majority of fishing being done on the other end of the bridge Let's hope they stay down there and leave the little channel alone. Heck i'd feel more safe knowing you're on the bridge flicking out a little plastic instead of having to keep an eye out for the golf balls the other guys use as a sinker....i really should put reflectors on my waders when i am down in the shallows. Good work on the flatties, surprised there has not been any Breams in your haul, there's been a few 30 plus models being caught under the bridge where you fish.
  23. Go hunt a King George But yeah a 47cm species other than the King is massive! Biggest i have landed is a 32cm model.
