  1. 80mm wriggler 120mm wriggler Tried them all and always go back to these two. They must be weighted correctly though.
  2. Awesome, nothing like your first king. Hooked for life now!
  3. Awesome, thanks guys. This shiuld keep me busy for a while. Will be sure to update any success. Cheers Paul
  4. Hi all I there is a culture of not revealing mark 'x' but as im a local i feel I have a right to know. Can anyone tell me where any of the gladesville bridge area 'jew hole' locations are? I'm sure there are multiple as this is a much revered jew location. Even if someone could tell me what depth to look for that would be a start. Happy to put the time in if I know what depth to look for. Also happy to take out soemone for a sesh if they wish to share the knowledge. As for bribes I work for Coke so no shortage of drinks/coffee to offer. cheers Paul
  5. Mate i couldnt believe it! I was like wow thats a big yakka, no wait a big bream, no wait maybe a jew, 30 min later a king floated up. That day taught me to never tie an ugly rig and always use good tackle even when chasing yakkas and that 1-3kg graphite rods are not as easy to break as you think.
  6. Just got 2 spheros 18000 for 135 each!
  7. Well on the flip side..... I caught my first ever king in winter at waratah bay on 6lb fireline on an okuma trio 20 while fishing for yakkas! Will upload photo once i get the laptop for non believers, went 82cm....
  8. I have a trio and a salina 1 that i have given a real hard time and to he honest they have not been flawless both requiring very regular maintenaance. I have heard okuma have great service but its stil an inconvenience to ship the reels off for service under warranty or not. On the other hand my baitrunner has not missed a beat. Guess ill probably stick with shimano.
  9. Cheers for all the info guys. Here is a spanner in the works: Shimano spheros or okuma salina ii? Both about same price online.....mmm
  10. Wow 80lb thats big, im assuming its more for abrasion resistance than anything? What size leader would go with such braid? On that point do you really need FC leader when live baiting or is mono sufficient? Cheers
  11. Would prefer to stick to shimano if i can, personal preference. Spheros has massive drag for the price, well under 200 on flea bay. Anyone have experience with these reels?
  12. Spot on the 4500 has 7kg. What i dont understand is that the TLD is rated as a gun king reel but 'only' has an extra 3kg drag, is this enough? I want to keep it under 200 if i can as the TLD combo is on special for 199. Would love to buy a stradic 8000 but just dont have the dough after the boat purchase. Anyone selling a second hand setup?
  13. Cheers Tom. I also have a 4500 bait runner with 30lb braid i use for plastics, the TLD wil be more as a back up because i have been smoked a few times on this setup. I never use mono, is there much difference in the brands? What should i be looking for? Thanks again
  14. Hi all I got smoked last year by harbour kings on what i thought was substantial gear. There is a great deal on tld25 15-24kg combos at the moment. Will this be sufficient to stop harbour kings? If so what class mono is recommended? I will be live baiting yakkas and squid mainly in the harbour, at the heads and close reefs. Its the summer of revenge! Cheers
  15. I have a 2000 jonno 70 and it cost me 350 for plugs, impeller, gear box oil, fuel filter and labour.
  16. Make sure the mechanic checks the gear box oil, i bought my first boat a few weeks ago. Ran fine but at service last week found nothing but water in the gear case! Replaced shaft seals and oil and runs fine but learn from my mistake.
  17. Hey mate I hit the markers on sat for zero but i only had yellow tail and plastics. Can i ask how far out from the marker you dropped your bait? Gotta love a fish that excites you even if you don't land it! Chers Paul
  18. Thanks for the advice all, my fishing buddy is comfortably over the tonne so will have to get him out this weekend. Cheers Paul
  19. Hi all I recently bought my first boat, a Quintrex lazeabout with 70hp Johnson. It is solid as and goes very well but my only gripe is the above deck fuel system. It is in the centre of the deck and only accomodates a 25L tank. I have looked at a custom underfloor tank but it is $$$ and the narrow spaced hull ribs mean it will be fairly small anyway. I'm looking placing a Moeller 68L tank above floor at the rear. I will be also fitting a transom mounted live tank well of around 40L capacity. My question is how will the extra 100kg or so at the rear affect the ride of the boat? Any negative or positive affects to expect from this? Or will the 70hp make light work of it? Or am I over reacting? Thanks in advance. cheers Paul cheers Paul
  20. Hey mate Congrats i can relate ro your excitement. Only bought my first boat two weeks ago. Spoke to plenty of marine mechanics and they all said a compression test and a good run with plenty of WOT will highlight any issues. Comp test is easy as and takes ten minutes. Obviously just test everything including tail lights, nav lights, sounder, radio etc as these little things add up to a nice bill if you have to repair. Good luck.
  21. I have cut my teeth in the hawkesbury over the last few years and have done very well on most species. I was surprised to fish there both sat and sun for a single bream and a shovel nose shark. My bigget concern is that we werent even catching small fish. On any day in most spots we would be able to catch pinkies all day long if we wished. I have to agree it is not the same.
  22. Hi all after years of fishing on my mates boats I have finally got one of my own! Good news is I live ten minutes from drummoyne boat ramp and have easy access to the harbour. Bad new is I have been fishing the hawkesbury/broken bay area almost exclusively. While I'm still building confidence to fish the harbour can anyone recommend any spots to fish west of the bridge? I know you cant eat the fish, just happy to get out and get stick in. Also if there are any local jew experts that want a free ride PM me. I'll provide the boat if you can share the secrets. Would love to get my first legal jew in the local area. cheers Paul
