Yep.a few weeks back when I came home from a trip out and flushing outboard on muffs the overheat alarm went off.Gut feeling told me impeller is cactus.
After a quick look at water inlet grates it was all clear.Tell tale…. pumping a little less than normal.
Have leg in vice clamp and suspicions confirmed I will be putting new impeller on before throwing leg back on.

Buy bare aluminium.Painted ally boats just look pretty for a while.

No photo, a stuff up somewhere in the system.
Headed out early this morning to the deep up past Lilli Pilli. Was not expecting too much after the long weekend boat traffic, so not disappointed when I could only pull out a just legal reddie and a tailor about 37cm. Even the little reddies were scarce.
Needed a few more fish, so I headed out of the mouth into Bate Bay. A bit of drifting for only 1 blue spot and a couple of spikies. I'm guessing the water was a hundred feet deep or so. Kept drifting for nothing, so headed out deeper, around the 150 foot mark (only guessing, no depth sounder) Quiet again, so I thought one more minute then heading back in. Finally found a patch of blue spots, and pulled up another 7. The biggest at 48cm.
That was enough for me, so headed back. A slow trip back against the wind slop from the north, but the drift was about the right speed for fishing.
My heart bleeds for you mate.😂😂😂 Great results as always mate.

A heap of boats inside the hacking on the public holiday - it was like rush hour yesterday when I was heading back in! Doesn’t surprise me the fish went off the bite today.
Top feed of flatties! can’t beat that, Nicely done mate!
I’d jump off the harbour bridge before anyone will ever see me out feeding the fish on a public holiday.I like to get out there to chill not for pain and suffering.😂😂

Just mulling over buying a small MIG, there's some pretty cheap ones around now, most do MIG, stick and DC TIG (no good for aluminium) my old stick welder got flooded in the last rain we had, so it's now "gone to god"
I thought about buying one too but simply can’t justify the expense to have it sitting in the shed doing Bugger all like my other 2 welders.Welders are rarely used tools here that are nice to have but infrequently used.

You didn’t miss a report from me bragging how I caught @Yowiefish if that’s what you wanted to know.

Some of those older aluminium boats are better than the new ones mate.As others have said tig welding is the go with aluminium or brazing. There’s products like knead it for patch work too if needed.

Loved the read.Great result and killer whiting. Now if I can catch a whiting bigger than that one’s lips.🤔

Why aren’t impellers and the like made from Polyurethane I wonder? They would last alot longer I presume?Cost?Flexibility?Maybe a combo.
I make all sorts of impellers ranging from small ones about the circumference of a cup and a few grams to ones that are about 3 meters round and weigh 2 or 3 tonne out of rubber and polly and different types of impellers among many other parts.

Round 2.I’m a sucker for punishment.
Made this for my mate that wants to raise his tiller steer outboard.
Making this for me to test my motor at 4” higher so cav plate is level with bottom of boat.Found a local bloke to weld transom but I want to test various heights first.
This one will clamp on using existing outboard mounting holes. If this ends up in the drink it means so has my transom and outboard.😂😂

I kick and wind with right hand and been practising throwing sinkers with left hand for when I see that bloody @Yowie.😂😂
Also I hold my empty hooks with my right hand, look at it closely then swap the hooks into my left hand ( they’re still bare) then look up,look down, shake my head and say……Bloody Yowie and re-bait.

Great result Sir Yowie and friend.I noticed the other day during the week the jet skiers and boaties have increased during the day.I never use to see anyone midweek on a jet ski 3 or 4 yrs ago.

yakkas are at cronulla ferry wharf and yowie almost all the time, i only catch my slimies among the moored boats at lilli pilli, but they are hit and miss. its ether yakkas or slimies there. Pilchards cruise up and down yowie bay and eat small cubes of pilchard on a size 8 or 10 hook, they never stay in the same spot and tend to move along quickly, even with a heavy berley trail
I was amongst the moored boats too yesterday.

All taken on board guys.So at different times of year they can basically turn up anywhere?
To catch them ranges from small metal slices (I have some of them) to using a small baited hook via a light rod / hand line?
I have a hand line set up that may fit the bill.It caught yakkas the last time I used it ages ago set up the way it is near a pontoon if I recall using frozen burley and probably a pinch of prawn. I’m talking like 15yrs or more before I even joined raider).
This is the hand line I have which I assume will be on the way it is or with just the sinker?
As for the bait schools I see in sounder I just throw baits around the area and never target them or even know what they would be to be honest.Maybe next time I put a pinch of bait on that hand line and lower it over the side to find out?
As for slimy mackerel I have seen them once in the Swa in the hacking surrounding the boat and as quickly as they were there they left.I didn’t have anything ready to try to catch them. They probably we’re gone in under a minute.
Also when I go to hacking at night and am driving along I see stacks of prawns scattering away from the bow( some leaping right out of the water) of the boat and seen hundreds of garfish on the surface looking like they are asleep on their backs.
I really need to have the gear ready and put more effort in as it’s too easy to just get store bought bait and start fishing.
It’s a different world at night I love it!!
Thanks for everyone’s advice and reading this saga.

I need advice on how and where to catch them?times of year, what to look for, gear needed, etc?
I know I have small hooks and some Bait catching jigs and a few hand lines if that’s all that’s needed? So any info at all would be appreciated thanks.
Heaps of bait schools on sounder yesterday but I wouldn’t have a clue what they were? Or might be.
Over heat alarm gut feeling.
