I guess most know the intersection in question! It's two major, multi lane roads, with thousands of trucks and cars using it all day, every day. How the proposed "diverging diamond" is going to make it safer or faster is beyond belief, crossing over opposite lanes is going to be cheaper to build, but, hardly safer than it is now. The only real solution is some kind of double decker bridge system. The existing east west road (Picton road) is already over the north south freeway (Hume Highway) so it can be that hard to design another bridge system to allow east bound cars to go south, and west bound car to go north without lights and crossing each other?

Spending money on roads & bridges doesn’t make them money unless it’s a toll road plain and simple.Let’s just keep giving it to foreign countries instead of investing in roads, hospitals, schools etc for the benefit of our own people as I’m sure that’s a smart idea.🙄Anyway, I’m staying out of this as whinging isn’t going to change anything the country is cactus and has been for decades now and only going to get worse.

  2. I just wish they’d start small first and FIX THE BLOODY EXISTING POTHOLES! All over the place mate. They failed to plan for our future half a century ago mate.Blind Freddy can see there’s no Hope left now.

  3. Don’t use your boat like I do and the tank will always read full and you’ll never run out.Kidding mate.Pull it out unless you have X-ray vision like supermen and check what’s been written above.

Hi, hoping someone can give me some advice.

I have a 2001 Quintrex 4.55 Escape and the fuel gauge only shows about 3/4 full when it is full. Not a problem when only out for a day but recently spend several days at Glenbawn Dam and travelling up the back every day would see the gauge down to around 1/4, So I kept putting in around 10 Litres every day so as not to run out.

I have pulled up the floor and thought that maybe a wire connection was a bit corroded and may need cleaning. However it seems to be a sealed unit including the wires.

Has anyone replaced a sender in a Quintrex before and if so what sort of sender is it? ie one where the float goes up and down a tube or do they have a float on an arm that moves up and down?

I didn't want to take the old one out until I had a replacement.

I have attached a photo (hopefully) showing the top of the sender in the tank.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers.

I’d pull it out and take photos of it to ensure I get the right one instead of relying on some of the muppets around that will give/send you the wrong one and source my own correct one then re-install until new one arrives.

Headed out into Bate Bay this morning, just as first light was shining in the sky.

I tried a few spots around the mouth of the Hacking, but only the 1 small squid. Next moved out to near the bombie, and there were large schools of pillies attacking tiny baitfish, so I threw a lure in and under and beside the schools. The only hookup was a slimie mack, and dropped 2 more. One other hit on the lure, felt like a tailor but no hookup.

Moved around and further out for the flatties. Mostly spikies biting as there was very little drift, so not covering much ground at all. The blue spots were scattered, so packed it in and was back at base by 8 o'clock. No birds observed diving, and no surface activity apart from the pillies.

Back at base by 8am? I’m just getting out of bed to go out at that time.Brave boy going out on a weekend.Good result never the less mate.

Yup. Everyone has to make their own decision on this one.

I’m only going if my experience … and it’s interesting that you have had your rig out twice since you fitted the permatrim and already experienced an unexpected loss of control.

    cheers Z

It can be only caused by 2 things mate. The foil or because the outboard was 2 low combined with the foil.Cav plate is 1 inch above hull now instead of 4 inches below.

Will test with it still on as we spoke and if it’s ok now I’ll keep it on as it’s improved my boat in everything from planning to steering to fuel consumption. If it’s still doing it I’ll test again with it removed.

Hi Fab, my experience and thoughts are written up above - see post dated January 12, 2021.

Nothing has changed to convince me otherwise… although I did just edit the post to correct my mis-spelt name 🤣 not sure how I did that originally….

If a bigger anti ventilation plate was the answer- all the manufacturers would be building outboards with them.

    cheers Z

I’m sure he will find your comments and make up his own mind.

I have a 2wd workmate hilux that i tow my 4.9m quintrex with it all the time, its the only car i have to do it. Yep have had to re-think my fishing plans a few times when i have got to ramps when they are very average but majority of times im completely fine, be prepared to do a bit of winching evey now and then and recommend using a wheel chock for a bit of security but orherwise youll be fine. My local ramp is terrible for weed etc but i have always managed to make it work, always check the ramp before you launch just to be sure if your worried.

Something as basic and so easy to deploy as a simple chock works a treat doesn’t it?They work even better with a rope attached to them.

Hi @Fab1 It's over 12 months on from the hydrofoil fitout, wondering what your thoughts are?

As a virgin boatie retired to Port Stephens, I recently purchased a new Stacer 449 Crossfire with a Yamaha 70hp. I'm not a lightweight at around the 130kg mark and even out alone it takes forever to jump out of the hole. There is not really a lot I can do regarding weight distribution as there is not a lot on the boat. The Minn Kota battery is well forward and I will put the esky and tackle box forward as well, but in truth not much weight in them anyway.

I need to take it for it's first 20hr service in a month or two and have discussed with the dealer about putting a hydrofoil on it at the same time, so interested in your thoughts...

    Cheers BB

To be honest due to Covid and family issues I’ve only been out twice I think since putting it on.My boat is smaller in length with less than half your hp at 4.2m and 30hp.

The first thing I noticed when fitting my permatrim was how quickly my boat planed, how slowly it would maintain plane before falling off the plane and how good it steered compared to previously. All this was good previously but it is even better now.

I do have an issue since fitting the permatrim which caused the rear of the boat to bite in and kick out kind of feeling nearly throwing you out the side of the boat. Both times when getting hit by waves on the rear port quarter.

Saying that my engine was incorrectly installed (too low) from dealer by at least 4 inches which took me basically 10yrs to notice as before I put hydrofoil on I didn’t have that problem or any problems regarding safety.

I’m 99% convinced my issues are caused by the motor set too low combined with having a bigger surface area on cavitation plate due to having the fin on.I have just lifted my outboard to correct height to retest if any issues  (yet to test.)

Some people like them and swear by them and some hate them.

I know 7 people personally that have or had a permatrim or Oz hydrofoil on various boats I’ve talked to that have had 0 issues with them. All of them said what I’ve said that their boats planes quicker and maintain plane at lower rpm’s/speed, they save fuel, handle better, etc.

1 person on here hates them as he had the issue I’m talking about on one of his boats @zmk1962 is very knowledgeable and hopefully he chimes in with his advice.

I will let you know how I go with motor at right height. If I don’t have that dangerous issue of boat kicking out I’ll be happy if not I’ll take the permatrim off.

Hope this helps and Zoran and others chime in.

Don't know anything about it, but, recently there was a thread about towing and slippery ramps, lots said it's not an issue at all, reality is often different!

Maybe we where just lucky or had done our homework at the times we used the ramps in regards to that post on towing. Many cars go into the drink due to operator error like not putting car in park or first gear with handbrake engaged, having 💩 tyres/tread, ramp slime/moss,algae,launching/retrieving at low tide, not using wheel chocks, etc, etc as you know.

We don’t have the full story on what happened here but i bet the answer is somewhere in what I said above.

if anyone takes anything away from this poor guys tragedy is INSPECT THE RAMP,MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD TYRES AND USE WHEEL CHOCKS!!! If in doubt don’t go out.

    Hi All,

As most of you know I catch & release fish like other Raiders do.

This year I have been giving them to the neighbours.

Two weeks ago two pensioners knocked back whiting & blackfish I offered them.I think I spoiled them giving them snapper.

Sunday afternoon I had a knock on the door & there was my friendly pensioner asking for some fish.

Sorry mate haven't been fishing lately.

    End of story.

You’re doing it all wrong mate.I practice feed and release without even having to see the fish.😂How rude.coming over bludging fish off you..It’s one thing to accept and appreciate when someone gives you something but turning up asking for it is a no no in my books..I would of given them the sardine bones after my cats finished eating.

Because they fall under local council, land and environment, maritime, state, and a couple of others all claim an interest, until money is mentioned, then the fingers start pointing! I have been part of a public "working party" involved in three local ramps, we met first off with local council, and a boating perspective was presented, after near on a year of to and fro, some funds were made available, "they" built some gardens and seats, resealed the parking area and deleted about 10 trailer parking spots. Nothing was done to the ramp at all......a few years later, the same approach was made to actually fix a local ramp, once again all sorts of "stake holders" popped up, but in the end, a substantial grant was obtained. The ramp was closed for months while work was carried out, unfortunately, the 2.5 lane ramp ended up with one side about 200mm higher than the other, so a slope bit was added in the centre. Not that the work carried out is relevant in this discussion, but, it points out how complicated anything to do with the "waters edge" becomes. It involves dry land, (parking etc) the actual high and low tide line, and the actual bottom under the water, all very different departments.

That first group of muppets that deleted the 10 trailer parking spots would of won the most intelligent brain cell group award of the year for sure.

  13. As the others have said good on you for thinking of others mate.In MacArthur where I’m from there’s lots of single mums struggling with the cost of living and dead beat dads that don’t support their own children mate.I’m sure she would have been over the moon to receive that fish for her and the kids.
