  1. Top effort! Especially given the foot problem. Love the dinner presentation. What’s the orange salad recipe? cheers Zoran
  2. Yes.... its called a Snapper Shrine ! Cheers Zoran
  3. Top report @Scratchie .... agree about that photo ...forget "the Mona Lisa" .... we raiders have "the Sunrise Snapper" .... ! Who needs more ! Cheers Zoran
  4. Hey Peter, glad to help and hope it works for you as well. Let's keep in touch regarding that offshore sesh. Cheers Zoran
  5. You’re a FishRaider champion @Pickles . What a blast of a day for you and your crew. Thanks for sharing. cheers Zoran
  6. Ryobi 18v cordless drill - in the workshop already. Ryobi battery already with drill. Starter motor $0. Wiring, switches and connectors $0. Steel plate $0. Re-purpose old winch 1 day (and a couple of beers). Fully demountable, fully transportable to another trailer - no exposure to weather and vandals. Manual function not affected. Retrieval rate to be confirmed - but lots of combinations to try. cheers Zoran
  7. Hey Peter the reducer is removable. Fits both the 15:1 and 5:1. I thought I had a torn rotator cuff but a cat scan has shown I have a frozen shoulder (adhesive encapsulitis) - so I’m exploring anything that helps with boating. PM sent. cheers Zoran
  8. Hey Raiders, I had previously posted that I had installed a 15:1 hand winch and used an old cordless drill on low speed to winch the heavy Haines up the trailer. As it turns out, the cordless drill approach was a hit and miss. It worked on less steep ramps but it also developed a problem where the winch gear teeth chattered and slipped as even on low speed the drill was too fast for the meshing to work. Could just be the quality of the winch. There are no chipped teeth and the teeth don't slip when manually wound, which told me it was a speed related issue. Anyway, having a bit of time on my hands as the trailer was in for the 5yrs brake pad/disc/bearing work ... I had a look at the old winch , cleaned it up, slimmed it down and converted it to a 10:1 or 5:1 further reducer. This should now make light work for the drill to winch up the Haines. Heres some pictures Reducer attached to the 15:1 spindle Reducer attached to the 5:1 spindle So given the reducer has 10:1 and 5:1 ratios, I can now get 150:1, 75:1, 50:1, 25:1 ratios out of the reducer and winch combinations, then 15:1, 5:1: 1:1 out of the trailer winch. Plenty to chose from to get the speed and torque that works best with the drill. Cheers Zoran BTW, heres the old post for reference:
  9. Congratulations! Now that’s a king. Well done. The sashimi ain’t half bad either. cheers Zoran
  10. Well deserved @Pickles !!! Love your posts. BTW now that you have struck GOLD there’s little reason to go after that $1M kingfish eh? cheers Zoran
  11. Awesome. You’ve got them kings sorted. Very impressive. cheers Zoran
  12. Thanks @New Signing and Sam ( @GoingFishing) ... My original post shows the seabreeze fcast ... wind was NE less then 10kts (very light), seas were SE (glassy).. the short video confirms the glassy conditions when we were there. The current underneath was definitely North to South (the chain was north of the buoy... I know that as a fact because there are several new SPs hanging off it 🤣 . The boat drift was to South - South West. .. it was the underlying current that was moving us south and the wind pushing us slightly west... but the wind was so light it hardly mattered. I carry two chutes / sea anchors ... but didn't deploy as my conclusion was the NE wind was so slight it didn't contribute much to the Southerly current force. It would have been an ideal day for a spot lock electric. Cheers Zoran
  13. Bewdiful ! Very fine catch indeed. Top post to match. cheers Zoran
  14. @DaveBM DPI issues a brochure that summarizes safe eating quantity and frequency for different species west of the bridge for an average healthy person. I’ll try and dig it up and post later on. I guess most of us have the attitude why knowingly ingest a poison when we are not starving or desperate and there are other safer options. Cheers Zoran https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/recreational/fishing-skills/fishing-in-sydney-harbour
  15. Top job @Rey05 both on the report and the catch - hope to see many more ! Yes my last trip out they were in the 50m depth off Barrenjoey as well. BTW, the Mrs and I love fish tacos (check out the kitchen for our simple recipe for the pico de galo - fresh salsa). Cheers Zoran
  16. Well a catch is a catch ... give you that .... this is definitely a catch and release tho. Best of luck with the op and to a quick recovery. PS - DIOXIN .... in layman terms stands for DIE if OX gets IN ..... Cheers Zoran
  17. Bet you had more than one great northern after that went past ! Cheers Z
  18. Congrats again @pickles and a big thanks for all the gem tips in your post - I have not had consistent results chasing kings - this should help. Much appreciated! Cheers Zoran
  19. Sometimes simple is most satisfying. Congrats. Top fish and top report. cheers Zoran
  20. Thanks @Nyxy ... I carry 2 chutes but no use in this case. Re electric - I’ve been looking at my hull and can’t figure where I’d mount an electric easily apart from the stern. But I doubt spot lock would be effective in stern mount position. Will keep mulling it over. Lots of great suggestions from FRs that don’t require an electric to keep me busy in meantime. cheers Zoran
  21. NICE ONE Scratchie .... looks good enough to eat ! .....and congrats again - it is a fish of a lifetime. Cheers Zoran
  22. Storm just came through Hills district ... very strong winds ... but it was short. Best of luck Rick. Cheers Z
  23. Thanks Brendon, yes very very frustrating. They came up to the boat 2-3m away and were not spooked even after we criss crossed the area and painted it yellow with our track marks... they just would not bite. You're right, we sighted about 5 trap buoys sets .... trolled around 3 of them for zip. The NSW FAD was around 21C, and the NE FAD around 22.5-23C. I agree with you, this schools was definitely sitting in the warmer water just 200m NE. It always pays to explore. Thanks Dieter, yes it was a pearler of a day ... started with cloud cover which suited the flattie fishing, then brightened right up with glassy water for the run out wider 👌 Thanks Sam....and I can report the Wednesday round of the flattie fillets were delish too ! They mahi didn't spook so we kept going back, maybe throwing out a scoop of burley at the buoy helped keep them there. But the boat did start to look like a tackle shop as we broke out the different gear - can't remember the last time I had so much gear to wash down . Thanks Diets and Sam, I've had another FR text me similar suggestions I will take it all on board and add it to the kit bag. The mahi were in an area about 50m before and after the buoy (I guess above the chain and in the eddy), with the wind and current the drift was running at 2km/h ...so we were drifting past pretty quickly. There was just time for 1 cast each and then were were out of the zone. I tried running the donk in reverse, but limited success on the day. Hmmmm now let me re-assess the need for that spot lock electric 🤔 Anyway Donald was TRUMPed by the DEMs on Tuesday, and we were definitely TRUMPed by the DOLLies the same day ! Thats life.... thats fishing ! Cheers Zoran
  24. I reckon @Pickles has this covered - he has the Sydney kings worked out good and proper! cheers Zoran
