  1. 5HP sometimes you need a bit more to get out of there. Good luck ! Cheers Z
  2. Great trip and great report Brendo. You certainly managed to fit it all in. The snapper feed a bonus. top stuff cheers Zoran
  3. Hey @PaddyT and @New Signing .... Thanks for all the comments and insights guys ! Much appreciated. This has not been my main form of fishing by far - so really appreciate what you guys offer here. Maybe you guys should collaborate on an "Article - Trolling and Set ups for blue water" ???? Cheers Zoran
  4. Wonderful write up. So good to see everyone is well and life is returning to so semblance of normality. thanks for sharing! cheers Zoran

    Members Boats.

Thanks KC ! Happy to help if I can. @Brendan Monks just send me a PM with contact details probably easier to chat. Our Brown's trip stats: motor ran for 10hrs straight (Ermington to Browns, idle in reverse to spot lock, move positions, Brown's to 12mile, troll 12mile, return to Ermo), we covered 177km on water. Speeds: heads to Browns return was at 45-55km/h, speed Rose Bay to Ermo - Dieter took it up to 60km/h (5000rpm). Total fuel used 112L (unleaded 95). Instantaneous consumption: idle in reverse to spot lock: 1.5km/h: 2L/hr ; trolling 12km/h: 6L/hr Boat weight was at 1972kg + your weight KC so a tad over 2T ! Cheers Zoran
  7. Hahaha yes... a Shotgun Rocket Launcher Rigger - remember patent pending including clip .... in final stages of development and field trials.... in other word - I'm still tinkering. But its promising and keeps the excitement going onshore. Cheers Z
  8. Loved every bit of the report Brendo. I guess a few more fish would have made the day exceptional ... but who can complain about having a play in a backyard like that with toys like those ! Tight lines. Zoran
  9. Bahaha 🤣 ... oh how I wish it was that easy ... as KC can vouch there's just a tad more to it. Cheers Z
  10. Pretty much what I typically run. Cup face and bullet style skirts. Resin heads out back and metal heads in the corners. Interesting !! I've never really run a mix of skirts and hardbodies as I was always worried about tangles from the different actions. But then again I am not that experienced in trolling - and I'm no expert by any measure. Cheers and thanks for the pointers. Zoran
  11. Great write up and summary @Scratchie. If you with your skills are also struggling up there, it makes our misses down here a little more palatable. I pulled a doughnut on Monday taking @kingie chaser and @61 crusher out to the shelf and put it down to an upwelling of some very cold water. But who knows. Maybe its time to put that shine on the Haines ...eh? Cheers Zoran
  12. All Good Dieter .... if there's no catching then there's always something to learn on every trip - this trip it was "dogfish". Didn't realise there were so many types .... and it was the first for Barrycuda. BTW, thanks for the sash weights again ! I'll get them ready for round 2 or is it 3. Cheers Zoran
  13. Hahaha ... you are worth way more than a crate and a couple of yellow pages .... plus you make better conversation ! Also you are a quick study and mastered the electric reel in no time ... so no issues with your contribution - in addition to your highly valued greater reach ! I did my best to simulate a pelagic strike/run in my drive way test .... it worked there. It's just going to be a trial an error thing out on the blue. Yup. That's the concern. Personally I try and avoid tight turns and prefer a gentler curve - I find going wider also doesn't spook the school as much ... I've had a newbie at the helm execute some tight turns out of excitement to return to the strike zone - which resulted in some shouting and prompt tuition - fortunately we have survived those - largely because the lures all run at different lengths. Fortunately we did not have a take during the turns as well. Cheers Zoran
  14. Exactly the issue .... for a start you need to be 6' plus just to be able to stand on the deck, reach up and touch the rod with one hand (that was why Crusher and I invited KC onboard - at least one deckie had to be tall enough to place rods there !!! 🤣). But then to remove the rod under load with one hand - maybe the likes of Arnie in his prime would have had a shot .... Paddy please look back at my original post, and the first picture i posted. The picture shows the two outside rods are at 90 deg to the centre line of the boat (running on rod riggers). I get a pretty good spread with 4 rods and have not had issues. However I have run 5 for a while now with BETTER strike rates. Infact last time trolling around the FADs the dollies did not strike unless I had the shotgun out in the spread.... but even then they took the LH or RH corner ... beats me why the 5th got them going- but maybe the 5 look more like a school to them. The 5th rod shotgun runs way back ... but does increase congestion on turns or in the event of a strike on the shorter running lures... by lifting the shotgun line higher out of the way I am pretty much back to my good 4 spread ... you can see how much higher the line sits above the other lines in the short video. Anyway there's no harm in playing around with this approach. I don't fish comp, there's no trophy at stake. Drop back is a concern as with any outrigger set up ... but as I have said above the rod rigger under load holds line tension and flexes down until it nearly kisses the top of the rod - if the clip releases at this point the drop back/handover to the rod is just inches. BTW, the clip held up trolling a 7" skirt 9-14.7km/h and allowed us to let out and retrieve line and position the lure on the wave. I now just need a solid strike / hookup to validate my clip release..... and I'll keep tinkering! Cheers Zoran
  15. Aug 13th bagged out by 11am... Sept 14th doughnut. Cheers Z
  16. Quick update. Finally got the chance to test the Rocket Launcher Rigger with @61 crusher and @kingie chaser ... here's a very short clip... it definitely helped ease the congestion in the spread.... Deployment was pretty easy. Let the lure out. Clip on the peg release. Retrieve the rigger line to hoist up the fishing line. We could let out or retrieve line to adjust the position on the wave. (note - on hoisting the rigger bent down to almost kiss the rod tip, then slowing raised the line - this suggests that on a strike it will hold tension until the peg touches the rod tip and releases - HOPEFULLY !). Unfortunately we did not get a strike ... but overall I am even more optimistic now that this will work ! Cheers Zoran PS - Now that the basic operation principles have been validated I'll focus on a more effective way to manage/secure the retrieved rigger line.
  17. Hey @kingie chaser, thanks for posting... it was indeed a day with lots of FISHING ... and very little catching. But hopefully the first of many. ... 10hrs on the water, 177km covered... multiple drops and drifts fishing 380-550m ..... and ... thats fishing. Nevertheless lots of wonderful sights, fresh air, and great conversation .... and I'm sure we got to solve most of the world's problems. We also had all the thrill and anticipation of at least one rod thump, thumping 500m to the surface .... sadly no blue-eye but a dogfish .. quickly released after capture. https://www.afma.gov.au/sites/default/files/uploads/2016/09/Deepwater-Shark-and-Skate-ID-Guide-FINAL-1.pdf Look forward to the next adventure. Cheers Zoran PS. Deep droppers. The drift ran S - N at about 1.5km/h. Water temp at 16-17C. We saw three boats at Browns - all seemed to be doing it tough with no fish seen to be brought onboard.
  18. Hi Luke, I'm not sure of your wiring experience but we are missing info to help pin point the issue. 1) Is this a 1 battery or 2 battery system? Does everything run off 1 battery, or do you have a starter battery and an accessory battery? 2) Is you system wired so your accessories come online when you turn the start switch? ... or is there a separate switch to turn on the accessories? If its wired for accessories to come online when you turn the start switch ... it suggests that you are drawing current for your starting motor through the accessory circuit (causing the accessory fuse to blow) in parallel with your starter motor circuit which then takes over and allows the motor to start. Generically speaking, the motor start switch (read low current switch) at the helm of the boat.... drives a relay (read high current switch) at the back of the boat to start the motor. The starter switch has thin wires - all they need to carry is the current to drive the relay switch. The relay switch has all the thick starter motor cables - it needs to carry the current to drive the starter motor - it is usually located in the motor. So as KC said ..... Putting the Negative (earth) circuit aside for the moment. ... you need to identify where you accessory circuit is connected to for Positive. Start with the fuse that keeps blowing... one wire will go to supply the sounder/bait tank, the other wire will go to where you are taking Positive. What is that connected to??? Cheers Zoran
  19. A nice bag again mate and an awesome humpy ... you're dad must be stoked with that. The next two weekends will fly by and you'll be out on "warmer" water in no time. Cheers Zoran
  20. Great report. At some point in time sea sickness gets all of us - strangely enough my last time was on a flattie sesh as well !!! .... maybe the “force” is imposing a bag limit in a different way 😂😂 cheers Zoran
  21. Excellent fish and report. Like you I swear by bananas 🍌. Have tested and no impact on fishing - but it’s a great giddy up with mates. Enjoy. cheers Zoran

    Boat Capacity

Thanks @shakey55 ... well I remembered Some of it - cheers Zoran

    Boat Capacity

Yes. Just make sure you have appropriate life jackets to suit the kids. From memory there’s some special conditions about children wearing jackets underway but there was also something about boat size in there - sorry can’t remember details- and it’s been a longtime since it applied to me 😬 Cheers Zoran

    Boat Capacity

My understanding is the same as KC stated. Which ever limit you hit first - in good conditions - otherwise it’s less. You can only substitute 2 kids (less than 12yo) for one adult....people and load are not interchangeable. The manufacturers determine these limits based on the dimensions and the crafts handling dynamics. People are a mobile load. Eg If too many move to one side the craft may capsize. Load is generally static hence the numbers don’t often directly tally as you are pointing out. From memory the RMS site has a simple formula based on length x beam In case your craft was manufactured before It was mandatory for the capacity to be stamped on the build plate or if you were building it yourself. There was also a procedure to get a determination if you thought it should be different to the formula. But in your case it sounds like the manufacturer build plate is fitted. It would be almost impossible to get a different capacity rating unless you modified the boat and went through the certification path. cheers Zoran
  25. Great job mate. Well done. Wish we could target those here without the 3hr drive ! Cheers Zoran
