  1. Not an easy question to answer, for example you would get a less k's if you were travelling against a 5kn current and heading into a 30kn breeze. I have a 115 4st on a 530 spirit (quintrex) it has a 90L tank and it will use a quarter when I put it in at Berrowra and travel to east reef - Barrenjoey - whale beach and back. A little more than a quarter tank if I put in in at Tunks park and go to a spot off Long Reef (about 10K's off Long Reef) and visit a few spots in the harbour. I don't go out in any rough weather and I don't travel flat out, similar to what you posted around 3500 - 4500 rpm.

    My Boat

Congratulations, it looks real nice. Hopefully it's not as blurry in real life as it is in that photo.
  3. A big thanks to Chris (lightning2K) and Huey. Chris has loaned me his 16" prop and the results were good, the motor feels happier (if that makes sense) revs easier and I got to 5700 rpm. A lot better than the 5200 I was getting with the 18". Once again thanks Chris and Huey.
  4. Yeah There's plenty to choose from just in Sydney, we could have Marlin as the grand final
  5. With the recent flood of reality TV shows I was thinking last night (after a ) How good would a show on fishing be? we could call it 'So you think you can fish' We have a bunch auditions for prospective contestants who then each week compete in different styles of fishing for a different species. The one with the worst catch gets eliminated finally leaving us with the top fisherman in all categories. What do you think? I would watch it! what the heck I would audition for it! Ps: in case any networks are reading this... Conceived and written by Paul Aka Gone Wishin, all rights reserved royalties expected. Regards Paul
  6. It sounds beaut!! What reel will be adorning such a magnificent weapon?
  7. The Smiths were unable to conceive children and decided to use a surrogate father to start their family. On the day the proxy father was to arrive, Mr. Smith kissed his wife goodbye and said, 'Well, I'm off now The man should be here soon.' Half an hour later, just by chance, a door-to-door baby photographer happened to ring the doorbell, hoping to make a sale. Good morning, Ma'am', he said, 'I've come to...'' Oh, no need to explain,' Mrs. Smith cut in, embarrassed, 'I've been expecting you.' Have you really?' said the photographer. 'Well, that's good. Did you know babies are my specialty?' Well that's what my husband and I had hoped. Please come in and have a seat' After a moment she asked, blushing, 'Well, where do we start?' Leave everything to me. I usually try two in the bathtub, one on the couch, and perhaps a couple on the bed. And sometimes the living room floor is fun. You can really spread out there.' Bathtub, living room floor? No wonder it didn't work out for Harry and me!' Well, Ma'am, none of us can guarantee a good one every time. But if we try several different positions and I shoot from six or seven angles, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.' My, that's a lot!' gasped Mrs. Smith. Ma'am, in my line of work a man has to take his time. I'd love to be in and out in five minutes, but I'm sure you'd be disappointed with that.' Don't I know it,' said Mrs. Smith quietly. The photographer opened his briefcase and pulled out a portfolio of his baby pictures. 'This was done on the top of a bus,' he said. Oh my God!' Mrs. Smith exclaimed, grasping at her throat. And these twins turned out exceptionally well - when you consider their mother was so difficult to work with.' She was difficult?' asked Mrs. Smith.'Yes, I'm afraid so I finally had to take her to the park to get the job done right. People were crowding around four and five deep to get a good look.' Four and five deep?' said Mrs. Smith, her eyes wide with amazement. 'Yes', the photographer replied. 'And for more than three hours too. The mother was constantly squealing and yelling - I could hardly concentrate, and when darkness approached I had to rush my shots. Finally, when the squirrels began nibbling on my equipment, I just had to pack it all in.' Mrs. Smith leaned forward. 'Do you mean they actually chewed on your, uh...equipment?' It's true, Ma'am, yes.. Well, if you're ready, I'll set-up my tripod and we can get to work right away.' Tripod?' Oh yes, Ma'am. I need to use a tripod to rest my Canon on. It's much too big to be held in the hand very long.' Mrs. Smith fainted
  8. I don't know what happened to the first PM but I sent another. In case that dosen't work I wanted to ask if I could try your 16" prop on my outboard to see how it performs give me a call on 0417 281 972 Thanks Paul
  9. Even the Flathead are cheering over that capture
  10. I try that with my but she responds with "your Jedi mind powers don't work on me!" but she says it in 2 words "you idiot"
  11. Hi Chris, Check your PM's
  12. Thanks Huey, I have not taken my boat back to the dealer and I would never go back there or recommend anyone else to. This is just another reason why. .......and what is suprising to me is they were voted the No. 1 Quintrex dealer for 2007, obviously not an award given by customers.
  13. Thanks guys, Huey, yes I was aiming to get it around 5,700 -5,800 rpm When you say the 3rd hole in reference to what? is that raising the motor higher with each hole? Squizzy, I used the calculator on the Mercury website and it suggested a 13.125 x 17" prop
  14. I guess I'm a glass half full kind of guy, (explaination = look on the bright side) Bob, I think it's great that even though you have the items for sale you're taking the time ensure everthing works Shows the character of person. I hate nothing worse than going to buy something and the seller saying "you just have to add this, bend that and it will be fine" If its that easy then why didn't they do it before selling? Anyway getting back on topic, Bob it sounds amazing to see two downriggers fully automated, I have a single manual type and I feel like henry the octopus trying to keep it tracking against the bottom. You could run your system single handed!
  15. Thanks Johnno, That's the type of answer I was looking for. The sizes I've mentioned are the pitch sizes. Yes I agree 5200 is lower than I would like it to be, I'm thinking of trying a Solas prop but didn't want to waste time trying a bunch of different props.

    Prop Pitch

Is it possible to calculate on average, the rev changes on a motor with each change in prop pitch? For example, my motor has an 18" prop and max's out at 5,200 rpm What rev's could I expect with a 17" prop? or 16" prop? I'm just looking for a rough guess like each change gives you 500 rpm as an example. If you need to know specifics it's a 2005 115hp 4 st Merc on a Quintrex 530 spirit. My manual says recommended rev range is 5000 - 6000 rpm. Hull weight with fuel, gear and 2 people would be around 800 - 850kgs (guesstimate).
  17. In order as well..... 565L Haines.....RageN - 175 evinrude, it flew Stacer 445.......Small Fry - cute and small Riviera 33ft flybridge......Stress Relief - ahh those were the days Quintrex 530 spirit ....... Gone Wishin - everytime I go out I'm wishin for a PB.
  18. Hi Peahead, I have no idea where you would get another dash from, but have you thought of a different solution? Have a look at the GME range of radios, the GX600D (VHF) or GX300 (27mhz). Both of these have controls on the handpiece, I would look at changing your radios to this type and add an external speaker so you can hear it while travelling. Keep the Quintrex as standard as possible to maintain its resale value.
  19. Correction.... look for 74 boats, I wont be going out this weekend.

  21. I picked Gulp Alive only because in 12 months of a half ar$ed attempt to catch a fish on a sp the Gulp Alive was the winner and caught me 4 flatties, but I have squidges, atomics, gulps etc. I'm sure if I was serious enough the others will work too.
