    Permatrim

You should take the prop off because it makes it easier to drill the holes straight and create the countersinking to get the bolts flush. The prop nut will either have a split pin or a tab washer to prevent it from comming undone by itself. The hardest part is holding the prop while undoing the nut. Follow the instructions I found them to be very good. Ohh I forgot, before you start drilling place a rag over the prop shaft / exhaust port, this will prevent metal shavings going into the exhaust port and sticking to the grease on the prop shaft.
  5. This is a case of de-ja-vu I was watching a fishing show on Foxtel last night (Hooked with #%$%^&(*) and that was the exact rig he was using to catch squid in Middle Harbour, they even hooked a 70cm Flathead which ate a squid they caught on that rig.

    Hydrofoil

Hi Scout, I just fitted a Permatrim to my outboard (2 weeks ago) it is a 2005 Quintrex 530 Spirit (cuddy cab ) with a 115 4 stroke. The problems I was having were, took too long to get on the plane, when backing off it would slip back into the 'hole' at the speed I wanted to cruise at. It would porpoise during certain conditions and no amount of trim adjustment would help. Now, I'm on the plane quicker (approx 700rpm sooner) but more importantly, I can stay on the plane longer, down to 2800 - 3000 rpm. At this stage I have not had it porpoise yet, so hopefully its gone. It has made a significant difference but my research showed the Permatrim should help with the problems I was experiencing and it worked.
  7. Ceph, did you buy the reel in Japan or via mail? How much did it cost you? the exchange rate at the moment is pretty good abot 100yen to the dollar. I'm going there next month, was going to look for a good kingy reel (not that I have had much luck catching any lately).
  8. You've only scratched the surface of its many uses... Can be used as : A poker to wake up your sleeping fishing buddy A pacifyer when you bring in lively fish Stick a large hook on the end and it becomes a gaff Just a few.
  9. Hi Guys, I had fitted a Permatrim last weekend so I wanted to try it out, so while the boat was on the water I might as well do some fishing (well, that's how I justified it to the ) So my neighbour and his 12yr old son came along, we launched at Tunks and headed for Clifton Gardens saw a number of boats at the east drum near the naval base (read the report, was Kingsrule). We drifted from the wharf out to start with but only caught tiddlers. Tried anchoring near the drum inside Clifton, burlyed up ......nothing. Pulled the anchor and drifted again and picked up two 'Grinners' which we threw back in. Moved across the Harbour to Watsons bay for nil. Then back to Balmoral for a Banjo Shark, then Sugarloaf bay for a tailor. All in all no fish to take home, but the Permatrim worked well the boat planes quicker, stays on the plane longer (lower revs) and has virtually eliminated porpoising.
  10. No... that's his breaming finesse rod, the game out fit is much bigger than that
  11. Great catch... I wonder if your spot X is the same Spot X I go to? Why don't you tell me where you go and I'll tell you if it's the same spot
  12. It's not difficult, I did it once on a 175hp V6 Evinrude (triple carbs). They are very basic the only critical thing I had to worry about was syncronising. I was given some advice by a mechanic to make up 3 aligator clips with straightened out paper clips attached, I then cliped these to the carbie butterfly shafts and kept adjusting until all three moved in unison. worked a treat. One thing I found amazing was the price of parts, I wanted the exhaust gasket - it was $120 but if I got a gasket kit it would be $109 which included the exhaust gasket and every other gasket and O ring in the outboard (including carbies), go figure.
  13. But I paid $400AU bought it while on a business trip.
  14. I work with Sourtherly and trust me no self respecting female would be seen in public with him Good catch and gee your'e giving the yak a workout!
  15. I've found them around Quarrantine bay and the inner most point of North Head (Harbour side of North Head).

    E Tech Installer

There is another E-Tech dealer at Cowan, can't remember the name but have heard good reports. I think it's something like Huey's......
  17. If only I could beef up the transom on my Quintrex to handle 365kg I might get a few more knots out of the boat with 350Hp, what do you think? I notice in the article they have auto synchronisation for triple installations, now where talking! I can see it now, sitting in boat engines burbling away, slam the throttle down and they just cut the boat in half and take off into the distance. Another Acme installation by the coyote.
  18. Hi Majed, Do you have a foil added to the outboard? if so what type is it (ie a one piece plastic or aluminum or a two piece plastic). I have heard stories that on some boats they can cause what you described. I have have had the one piece plastic version on two previous boats and never experienced this so I'm thinking it only happens if you have the two piece version.
  19. Yeah, I had a similar incident at lake MacQuarie last week. I was anchored 10 meters off the cardinal mark at Cardiff point when this clown in a 20ft sailer trailer decided that he need to drive between me and the marker. He was that close I could've slapped him on the back of the head as he passed. And, on the other side as Rob mentioned, a few months ago I was in the Hawkesbury heading back to Berrowra when a saw a bowrider with 3 kids and 1 guy waving furiously, I wasn't the only boat on the water but the only one that went over to help, They had run out of fuel, it was 35 degrees they had no canopy and the oldest child was about 12. Towed them back to the ramp, probably added 30 mins to my trip but I hope if I needed help someone could spare 30 mins of their day to help me.
  20. There are major differences between downriggers and deck winches, I'll try and explain: 1) Downrigger - uses wire to lower a heavy weight to a desired depth, it has a quick release device that you attach your line to. Once the fish takes your bait / lure you fight it with your rod and reel, the downrigger at this stage is wound up to avoid the fish snagging on it. 2) Deck Winch - is basically a reel attached to a rail on the boat mainly used for drift bottom fishing. You hook and fight the fish with the winch as opposed to the downrigger where it just gets your bait / lure to the working depth then lets the rod /reel do the work. Hope this makes it clearer.
  21. No idea, but when you find out can you let me know. I plan to pay for the services until the warranty runs out then have a go myself.
