  1. Happy birthday Iceman! Getting closer to fishing everyday... I kind of look forward to that hehehe. Luc.
  2. Another reason I would do it Stewy is in case I got snagged... As you say the knot is the weakest point so the knot would snap instead of snapping up near my spool losing however much line I happen to have out at the time.
  3. Welcome to fishraider snatcher! I have been shooting since I was a kid. Photography was my main source of income until I moved down to Merimbula. Since I am not established down here I have reverted to my previous occupation of a removalist but still do a little bit on the side where the opportunity arises. I do portraits mostly however I have been known to do the odd landscape and wildlife photography. Here is a small example. Luc.
  4. It was an overnighter and we were all over the place. I wasn't driving but we were in dead set shocking weather and a big swell with more or less constant rain but at times we were about 50nm out in about 2500m of water. I was having trouble staying awake and didn't really pay attention to water temp at the time of the catch but it was about 20 degrees most of the time.
  5. I had a go at some fin the day before yesterday off merimbula which resulted in one small yellow which was about 70-80cm but it was a fat little barrell. Made for some great sashimi the next day! Luc.
  6. Probably best not take up fishing as a hobby then. It happens to us all and only gets worse as you go along hehe.
  7. Mate every beach is different. You just have to take a look to see what is happening and set your rigs accordingly.
  8. Great work guys, one thing I would advise though... if you want to release a fish in the best condition wet your brag mat and your hands to minimise the amount of slime taken off the fish. The slime is what keeps infections at bay and gives the fish the best chance of survival. I have seen fish which have been handled incorrectly in captivity and it can be quite nasty. Keep up the good work boys. Luc.
  9. If it was caught in the traditional fashion with a rod and reel I would be impressed... Chances are though that it was either netted, long lined or lead lined. That does nothing for me. Luc.
  10. This a great spot, I went through there the other week in my truck and wanted to go for a fish but alas, duty called. Nice work mate. Luc.
  11. I'd get a mate to take my line out and drop a bait in there from the land. There has gotta be some stonker jews in there. My bet is you would find a couple of sharks too. Luc.
  12. Only because they were hurt by the NSW players in game one hehehe. Touche.
  13. Personally I'd moor it. Less shaggin around that way.
  14. Give me a jack any day... I wouldn't trust it to be honest, it looks like it could roll forward and fall over pretty easily.
  15. You can tell he is your boy Jani, he looks like a little version of you. It seems like he enjoyed himself too. I bet there will be many more trips coming soon. Luc.
  16. I've heard reports of them being around so it wouldn't surprise me at all.
  17. I can so picture that. You must have been laughing your head off... I bet the old man wasn't though hehehe.
  18. I didn't think a blackie would go for a vibe... There you go eh. Well done mate on some fine specimens. Good to see you play as hard as you work. Luc.
  19. I wish mine dragged me out fishing... I think.
  20. G'Day Laddercat, it is a good place here with friendly folk. Probably the best forum on the whole interwebs I reckon otherwise I wouldn't spend so much time going through it all and learning as much as I can. I am here in Merimbula and probably know all of those spots you mentioned fishing with the "old man" for example Tura head and short point rocks. There is good reason I think of his reckoning as I'm sure you know as each place has its serious difficulties to avoid and a good hard reef is what is needed with those drummer I think in both of those spots. Welcome aboard. Luc.
  21. Thanks for the advice mate I will definitely give them a go. Were you on Eucumbene river, gang gang creek, alpine creek or fishing the dam itself? Cheers.
  22. I miss cracker night... I always looked forward to it as a kid. As usual the few morons spoiled it for the rest of us. If only we were allowed to be responsible for our own actions again instead of being coddled by the government and told what is and isn't safe for us to do... Luc.
  23. Great work royce, that would have been great fun. I also believe that would be a new fly record for the blackies. Well done mate. You should have told me you were heading to Eucumbene, I would have joined you. What flies did the damage and where were you? I am heading up in a couple of weeks and wouldn't mind getting a few on the long wand. Talk soon. Luc.
