  1. That was a great read, it had it all... The education, anticipation, effort, tragedy and eventually triumph. You did very well on that bag that is for sure. I have to add also that 10lb line is pretty capable of lifting luderick and drummer up from the surface, I haven't personally heard of one over 5 kegs. It is more the rod that you should be concerned about and not high sticking it and snapping your tip off. Well done Joel and once again welcome. I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot more from you . Luc.
  2. Bermi is only 45 minutes from me. If I can find the time off work I would be interested in having a go. I would have to take a look at my bookings and work out a date with you guys when I am free but I am definitely interested if some bluefin are involved. I loooooove bluefin. Luc.
  3. Happy anniversary, you kids enjoy your night. Try not to wear yourself out before you need to. Luc.
  4. Welcome Joel, this good to have you on board. I look forward to seeing how you go. Luc.
  5. Mate I just use my 8ft 2-5kg starlo six soft plastic rod worth less than $100. I have caught hundreds of squid on it and it casts the 2.5 and 3.0 jigs like a bullet. It is soft enough not to pull the jigs away from the squid and powerful enough to lift cuttles and occys up onto the wharf for a clean release if I get one of those instead of a squid. Spend the money on the jigs, it will be much more advantageous for you. Luc.
  6. If it has Jarvis walker on it and was made post mid 70's I would avoid it... just saying. Luc.
  7. They are some nice reds fab. Which one are you? Top or bottom pic?
  8. Thanks mate, I'm sure everything will work out well.
  9. Congrats Jeff, it looks awesome and you well deserve it.. Much like where I am at the moment. Guess what also bud... I bought a business, I now run my own company moving furniture, things are looking up here too.
  10. Yeah bud, look for drop offs, weed beds, fallen trees, standing trees in the water and most importantly wear polarized lenses as they often cruise in the open too. Once you find them just do your best to replicate whatever is hatching or bait fish in the area. Keep that in mind and it will be no time until you are on to fish.
  11. Great effort Waz! Mate 42cm bow on the stream is a great fish, my biggest bow on a stream is only mid 30s... Dams/lakes are a different story. They generally aren't very big in the rivers. You did an awesome job. Keep at the fly too mate, once you start catching fish on it you will be addicted to it just as much if not more than the spin gear. They are awesome fun and I personally can not get enough. I play with mine in the salt now too. Keep it up bud. Luc.
  12. When I fillet them for fish cakes my pug is generally at my side. The only parts wasted are the head, spine/bones and skin. All of red meat gets trimmed and fed straight to the pug. He loves it to no end. In fact when I go to give him a slice of the white meat he turns his nose up at it... he only wants the red meat from it.
  13. Thanks for the tips paikea, some useful advice on the anchoring technique. The bream is a nice little specimen also. It looks like a great spot too, I am surprised I haven't given it a go before. Luc.
  14. Well done Reggie on the Jew! They are worthy fish no matter the size. What size head and plastic were you using for the bream Stewy? Good work gents.
  15. That is a monster salmon, what did you get him on?
  16. Arrrrrgh, I hate it when that happens. Shame about the kingy mate but at least you got a good haul of flattys for dinner. What poundage did you get the kingy on? Luc.
  17. I had a day like that myself on Sunday, between me and my mate we caught 14 snapper and 2 nanny's. I haven't put a report though because I didn't have any pics of them and they are now frozen in my freezer hehe. There is always next time I guess as the season is about to kick in down here. Luc.
  18. Hey bud try the loop knot on the plastics too with flattys and bream, they seem to float more naturally and it lets the plastic do its thing.
  19. My 2 cents is on jackets. They go for anything and frequently take chunks that size out of my plastics.
  20. I go fishing pretty regularly for squid like that, I rarely use them for bait unless heading into kingy grounds and even then I generally use plastics or poppers or divers. I would much rather keep the squid for myself hehehe. They are tasty little morsels. Luc.
  21. Welcome to fishraider Zander and what a great way to introduce yourself with a bream of that caliber. That is a good bream that any would be happy with. Congrats mate, I look forward to seeing your future work. Luc.
  22. That flatty is awesome, gotta be happy with that! Both great catches but to be honest I would be stoked even more with that croc. Great effort. Luc.
  23. Yeah you are right... 100-130m is a bit too far hehe. Thanks for your reply.
