  1. +1 i always cast ahead of the drifting boat! Casting behind the boat will give more lift and not keep the lure in the strike zone for as long! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. Nice catch finin! I wouldn't have went out either. I was out the shelf on Saturday and that was bad enough but the conditions looked worse for Sunday! And horrible all this week I might add! Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Congrats Steve! That is 2 years of hard work, research and persistence right there! Enjoy your prize mate! Cheers scratchie!!!
  4. Headed out of port Stephens today. The weather was ordinary to say the least. We pulled lures from the 70 fathom mark on a n/e direction to the shelf and then worked to the car park and found we were the only mad buggers out there. Swell was coming from the north over 2m and winds from the south. Decided to head back in and the wind changed to a westerly which made the trip home longer! Ended up with zeros but was nice to get out and have a go! Heard of one little black caught on the 50m line heading north. Other than that the radio chatter was non existent. Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Agree with wizza! Also if you like beach fishing, Fingal bay beach is very protected for the kids to swim etc and you can wonder up the beach fishing the gutters! There's also a place in Fingal called "Barry park". Absolute scenic place for lunch! Cheers scratchie!!!
  6. Hey John, firstly here's the pinned post.... red neds pie are pretty good but they definitely charge tourist prices! My bet with the grandkids would be to head to corlette beach on a high tide and fish the flats. The kids can swim on the same area! There's also BBQ and tables there to relax! Hope that helps! Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. Can not wait for this tournament! Probably one of this best run tbft in a beautiful location! Great to see Tony Poole back onboard with fishraider again this year. For all those raiders heading up this way for the first time and returners, here's a thread I started that might help you on your way... If anyone has any questions about the tournament, locations, accomodation or anything fishing, please post here or send me a pm and I will try my best to help you out! I'd love to see a few raiders up here for a great weekend!!! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. Great stuff yowie! Ive changed my mind on tailor, they aren't that bad on the tooth! But still reckon they make better bait! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. Nice one mate! Ive haven't been on a jewy hunt for a while now. There's definitely been a few around. Scratchie Jnr has been landing a heap of schoolies from one mile! Congrats on your fish Jew and from the beach is also a feat in itself! Even if you didn't catch anything, your standing on the best beach on the world! Cheers scratchie!!!
  10. Not the wall itself. Try the beach to the right of it. Access opposite peninsula ave! Some good bream and whiting there!
  11. Well done mate! I was there at close to the same time. Got a few undersized myself and then went to the anchorage. The fish were there but not biting! The rain won the day! Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. Nice work diesel. Good to see your still casting! Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. You need to have a line in the water to catch a hairtail.
  14. Awesome work Steve! I always say gamefishing is a lot of nothing time waiting for mayhem! But agh, what a rush! A big congrats on your first beak and a special one at that. I'm yet to add that to the list! Good luck with cotm! Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. Is that a monkey I see you holding Steve???
  16. Extraordinary! Thank you to all members for their contributions! Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. Great work guy! The sound of that screaming reel is what all makes us come back for more! Nice work! Where were you fishing out from? Sydney or the beautiful Port Stephens? cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Lol.....well lock it up this weekend as it's looking pretty wet!
  19. Weather looks good for the weekend Steve! But make sure you pack a raincoat!
  20. Fair call. I do that to sometimes when flicking sps. But if I'm using heavier gear casting spinners or poppers all day then I use half that and don't let the knot go through the guide!
  21. Yes mate! I also agree with PaddyT, that if your constantly casting then shorten your leader!
  22. Hectic boys! Well done on helping out even though they were ungrateful. I'd be more upset that they cut into your fishing time! cheers scratchie!!!
  23. I only ever do, 6 wraps one way and 6 the other with 3 times through the loop!
  24. I use an improved/modified Albright on all my lines and never had a drama except for sloppy workmanship (my bad). Even on my 6-8lb and it works well. The FG knot is certainly a strong and slimmer knot and I guess it's one to add to the arsenal but whatever works for you! I can tied an Albright on a kayak with 30knot winds in no time at all. I guess, just pick one and do it well! Cheers scratchie!!!
  25. Also check this post, it may help....
