  1. Same principal as a snapper snatcher! When fishing sp's for snapper I find that when working the lure doesn't work that just dead sticking it sometimes does! A two drop rig with bait and plastic is certainly worth a shot! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. Scratchie

    New Boat

Have a look at the Haines hunter breeze 470. It seems to tick all the boxes you are looking for. That is the boat I have and they are brilliant. Rated for 5 people in closed waters and 4 in open waters. They can handle nearly any chop and more than capable of traveling outside. Light weight to make launch and retrieve solo. There's pretty much nowhere I haven't taken it. Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Great work mate. The girls look extremely happy with the catch. The weather is obviously different down there. Only good for ducks up here! Cheers scratchie!!!
  4. The jetty is there mainly for tourists but you can occasionally spin for tailor in the arvo. Always worth having a big rod out off any beach up here, you never know but most of your dead baits will be scoffed by shovel nose sharks! That jetty can produce live baits as well. Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Cheers. Can't wait to get out there! Hopefully this weekend coming!
  6. Unlucky mate. What were you using? Lures, live or skipping?
  7. Yes mate. You can fish off the headland for bigger stuff. Throw sp's on the right hand side at high tide for some big flatty. There is also a pontoon/jetty there. Further around on the left side you can get some good sand whiting. You can also get some good whiting from the gutters at fingal beach which is just around the corner. If you can sneak out off the stones. The southern end of wreck beach is also worth a shot, early morning late arvo! I look forward to your report! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. Hi Al, I'm happy to help out if I can. I also have 4 kids, so I know the importance of catching something. I'm also an untangle master, I've had a lot of practice! Lol Fishing the bay with your kids in mind, I would try soldiers point jetty for a start. You can catch bream and whiting there but it can be really busy this time of year. A 2-4kg rod 2500 reel 6-8lb line. Fish that jetty as light weighted as possible with either bread, prawns or nippers. And I would use a long shank hook. Either side of that jetty are beaches you can walk up and down and throw sp's for Flatty especially at high tide. Or a ganged pilly unweighted slowly rolled along the bottom. Corlette beach and taylors beach is another place to target flathead and whiting. You can pump nippers at both these locations. Taylors beach is quiter than corlette though. Small sinker, 30cm trace and longshank. Soldiers point mariner you can hire a tinny and behind there towards taylors beach is a yellow marker and red marker drift between those two and I guarantee you whiting! but don't tell everyone that spot! Also from a boat, the right side of north arm cove near the red buoys you'll see what I mean. That could be a good spot too! Basically though, anywhere in the bay in 3-5m of water will get you flathead and whiting. Wanda headland is also worth a shot. Hope that helps and good luck, Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. Gees stewy, that's the pot calling the kettle black!
  10. Congrats to all involved. Looks like great conditions out there and good to see the water warming up! Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Well, you need to come up this way as they are on fire!
  12. Thanks for all the responses guys! I've submitted this fish for cotm on Doms behalf as it's a serious fish and worthy of an entry!
  13. Good stuff Mr.Groper! Good to see you out there fishing rather than towing tubes behind your boat. Lol. There's certainly some good fish about if you can find them. The snapper and kings are about in numbers, so good to see you got a few! Cheers scratchie!!!
  14. Unlucky mate. They must be all up here in PS! It's been going off the past few days! Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. G'day raiders, I just thought I'd share with you reports of the marlin bite up here. A mate landed 8 stripes two days ago along the shelf. There were multiple hook ups and pack attacks on lures and skip baits. I also receive some fresh dollies from another mate that went out to the fad with a water temp of 23.5. Looks like the game fishing up here is heating up but the weather for the next 4 days unfortunately is forecast for terrible conditions. So next weekend looks like the go! Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. Nice work fellas. I enjoy reading reports of raiders catching up. Sounds like you both had a great day. Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. Anywhere around broughton island! North rock is a good place.
  18. Happy new year to all raiders! I hope you all have a great 2016 and I look forward to reading your reports! tight lines Cheers scratchie!!!
  19. G'day raiders, Well, this is a follow on from my recent posts about getting smoked on several occasions. So, I get the call from my mate and fellow raider dom that he was up this way and wanted to head out. The weather had been crap and me being flat out with the tourists we manage to find a window of opportunity yesterday and we headed off! Dom bought his mate jacks along and we were set for a good arvo session! First stop was picking up some livies (with easy) and off to broughton island and the spot that has haunted and rewarded me for the past two weeks. Anyway, the drift was hard so we anchored up, set up some livies and threw some sp's and bait about. I picked up a couple of pannies and few different reefies but nothing from Dom! Now, to add to this story, this is the 3rd or 4th trip with Dom on his beautiful new boat and he was yet to bag a legal fish despite my son and I catching a few for the table. Well, with all that said, he really put pave to that and showed the champion angler he is, with the foresight to feed his livie down the throat of a monster king that harassed our baits! And he was on zzzzzzz! I wound in the rods and started the boat while jacks pulled anchor. We chased the fish for some time and dom played it well, as jacks drove like a pro! Too add, we had to deal with a frisky hammerhead and being dragged on top of a bombie but after 45mins the battle was one and I managed to gaff it first go. Dom was spent but managed a few hi5's and to hold the fish up for a few photos and what a hoody. There you go, DUE, shit yeah, Dom was DUE to catch a legal fish on his boat and I was DUE to see one sooner or later. And if it wasn't me I couldn't think of better bloke to land that fish of a lifetime! Congrats mate, a top catch and I'm glad your king didn't squash or eat my pannies in the kill tank! King: broughton island Weight: 20kg plus Length: 137cm Bait: live slimie 6500 shimano bait runner 30lb braid, terez rod. Plenty of kings and snapper up here ATM, so if your up this way get out there! Cheers scratchie!!!
  20. Great stuff Mr. Groper. That's a big lure behind your boat! Cheers scratchie!!!
