  1. Awesome R&B! It looks like your dad enjoyed himself anyway. Great backdrop! Merry Xmas to you and your family! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. Try this..... http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=75391&page=3#entry570303
  3. Probably Steve but that would be better than a box of Krispy creme!
  4. Lucky you JD. Just seen the total of what the Mrs bought all the kids for Xmas. I think I might end up with a sienna combo
  5. Yeah Pete, this one was a snapper. Took it mid water, destinct tail beats in sporadic bursts. I'm about 99% sure. It didn't strip it in one go but every time I tried to turn the head it put on a run. I'm happy to call it a shit shark as yowie put it because it would have been a cracker. So much so that I now need a new rod and reel
  6. G'day raiders, So after running around mad like the herd and every man and his dog shopping I managed to get the mrs to a tackle store! She says "alright what do you want". To my reply "one of everything on the store?". Well, that was my tactic, start off big, then settle for something I really wanted at a price that was affordable. So I I'm getting a new stradic fk4000 for my snapper fishing as my plfuger is done and dusted. Hopefully I get my wish, what are other raiders hoping to get for Xmas? Best wishes all, Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. Great stuff Neil. I'm always nervous taking my wife as she out fishes me nearly every time and let's me know it too! The first time I took her, she got seasick and said "this is the worst day I've ever had". To which I replied "see, all those times I go fishing and you thought I was out here enjoying myself" Well done! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. Good luck Gerry. And call anytime mate!
  9. Cheers phil. I agree, the big boys put up a great fight and I just love the take, bang! I got one around 5kg the other week and he hit it with that much force it nearly ripped the rod from my hand. When I landed it, I was lucky as he nearly chewed through the leader. The jig was that far down his throat I has to cut the leader. Great fun! I love snapper fishing!
  10. G'day raiders, With summer here and the water starting to warm up, have many of you been out lately chasing marlin either off Sydney or Port Stephens? I haven't had many reports from up here yet, only the odd stripe being caught over the past four weeks. The seasons gotta start soon!!! Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Just thinking, you could use a pool noodle around the board to help with buoyancy or as outriggers? Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. Great catch meg! Good to see a few of the biguns around. And your right about losing them near the boat, they seem to kick into another gear when they see it! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Maybe! I once caught a king at the break wall with about 4 hooks in its mouth and two had leader connected. I removed all and sent him on his way. So they are pretty resilient. If it had of made the boat it was going to be dinner!
  14. There's plenty of protest up here. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
  15. Fantastic write up Paul. Isn't it great to catch up with fellow raiders who are like minded people. Bass fishing does come with a warning though, it's highly addictive! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. R&B- more frustrating than anything. Next time! Xsite- mate I live on the water and I'm a baker. I choose fishing over sleep. So I enjoy now and pay later!
  17. Wow Alan, what a read and some amazing captures there. You should have enough fillets to last you until you go back next year! Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Thanks Neil. Yep, the area is reknown for its big snapper and hoodies and shallow reefs. But I've almost got it worked out! Watch this space!
  19. Cheers Steve. The last two hurt but today was just one of those laugh out loud I'm under gunned moments. If I wasn't anchored I was a chance. The swell was fine but the water cold and murky with strong current and cross winds! Yukkk!
  20. G'day raiders, So, the last two weeks I've headed up to broughton island in search of snapper and kings. The only problem I've had, is not finding them but stopping the bastards. First time lost a lot of line and it beat me to the reef. Last Friday, I managed to get it from the reef and into deep water only for my rookie apprentice to proceed to drive over my line and pull the hook. Both these instances were on liveys and significantly heavy gear. Today, we were battling cold water, strong current and breezy conditions so we were up against it. We drifted the same areas but it just wasn't happening, so we cganges locations and first drift jnr drops and is onto a decent pannie. We continued to drift but the constant struggle was annoying so we decided to anchor up where we caught the pannie and burleyed up. We landed quiet a few reefies and undersized snapper. I then cast out and get a solid hit on the drop zzzzzzz. The boys though I was snagged until this fish realised it was hooked and took off like a rocket. So much so that I lost 150m of 20lb braid in seconds and I'm now looking at the 100m of backing which I haven't seen since I put it on 2 years ago. There was no time to pull anchor and chase so I was praying that I can turn this fishes head. Well, to say I failed was an understatement. This fish just did not stop and I was soon facing the reality that I could now see my spool and with only 3 coils left I held it and ping! Goooooooone! I've caught plenty of good snapper on this set up and never seen the backing so this one would have been something special. Definately a snapper and i would have loved to see it. Anyway, after that failure, we changed location by trolling and we managed a nice bonnie which was so to become bait. We found a good spot to get away from the increasing wind. After a few drifts we boated a few more good pannies and them my rod loads up for the second time today, not the same as the last but a good spirited fight and into the net goes a nice red! We were off the water by midday with a decent esky of fish but that big boy has eluded me for a third time in a row. On a positive, at least I'm finding them and it's only a matter of time! Thanks for reading, Cheers scratchie!!!
  21. Hi greatwhite! Firstly, congrats you've moved to a great part of the world! Secondly, I'm up for a fishing invite anytime Now to answer your questions..... There is NO prawning spot on the southern side from a boat or land. Corlette wreck- 32.43.178s 152.05.437 The western side in a hole. The wreck is in two parts. Mud crabs- tilligerry creek or karuaha but there is a ban on tilligerry creek ATM Breakwall- all year round depending on what your targeting. Luderick-weed bream-prawns kings- whole live or unweighted squid jew-live bait Squid- shoal bay or eastern end Jimmy's beach Also Barry park or any headlands off boat harbour Windy days- time on the water is your best way to learn. No many places to hide from a north easterly. Middles island- once again depends on your target. The deep holes are best using a live bait rig. Shovel nose- this tells me that you are sitting your bait on the bottom of the bay. This will only get you the shovel nose. Yes you can eat them but they aren't that great. The larger they are the more they developed a taste like chlorine. On George st soldiers point Sharks- probably port Jackson. If they are grey then I would say school sharks more than likely small bronze whalers. If they have no teeth then gummys. IMO not worth eating except gummys as there are better fish on the bay. Hope that helps and I'm happy to be corrected on any non factual info. Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Welcome to Fishraider! Hope you enjoy the forum! Cheers scratchie!!!
  23. I always tell my kids, "there's a fine line between trial and tragedy" Unfortunately, this young lad paid the ultimate price.
