  1. You gotta be happy with that James! I'm sure it brought a smile to the families face as well. What a great 4 days of fishing! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. My guess would be salmon. I've had them do the same to me but I managed to put some hurt and land them. I thought the same thing when I hooked up too! Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Great work mate! That's what fishing is all about, adapting to what's in front of you! The information sharing on this site is priceless. It's not just about placing a report, it's also about reading the experiences shared by others. I'm glad you and your dad ended up with a great day! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!

I would definately giving our site sponsor craig a call. The wraps he does are amazing! Check this out...... http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=77812#entry555827 Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Anytime noel. Always need an excuse to go fishing!
  6. Congrats on your achievement. They are certainly a target species that is like no other. Hope there are many more for you to come! Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. To answer your question. Yes! Big bait=big fish! But but but but, it's what your targeting with your big bait in the right areas that matter. You will not often encounter small bycatch with big baits or big lures! For example, Often using a big flesh bait chasing jew may get picked apart by smaller fish but if your in the right area, leave it there as the feeding frenzy may entice the big fish to bite! When ocean going and drifting an area, I always have a livie drifting behind me! However, on the flip side. You can catch a big fish on a small hook, but you can't catch a small fish on a big hook! That's my opinion anyway! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. It is certainly frustrating! But when I fish an area that is usually productive and I'm unsuccessful. I note down the time, tides, weather bait etc. and if the same circumstances present themselves, I try somewhere else or don't bother going! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. Sounds like a great place to visit dave! Qld???? Gees your gunna miss the bass sessions you had down here. Not to mention the Stockton breakwall. Oh well, at least your state league team has improved Cheers scratchie!!!
  10. Into a stripe marlin already mate??? Great work! You must be licking your lips for the marlin season this year! Cheers scratchie!!!

  13. Great stuff. It's always good when you can see the commotion on the water and cast into the unknown. There pretty good scappers the old salmon! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  14. He sure is and I'm sure he can help you out..... http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=73799#entry523034
  15. Sounds like an awesome trip mate! First barra ever and over a 1 meter! Wow, your mate has to be stoked with that. Well done to you both on a successful trip. Thanks for the report Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. Nice work vic! And good on the mrs having a go too! You might wanna head up this way soon. Over the weekend, there quite a few striped marlin caught! Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. Best advice for someone starting out on sp's would be to go to a tackle store and get a combo under $100. 2-4kg with 2500 reel 6-8lb braid. 1/8 or 1/4 jig and a squidgy bloodworm wriggler 80mm or 3-4inch minnow/jerk shad. Plenty of decent combos for that price. Yes you will lose fish at times but no different than any other type of fishing. It's all about learning how to play different fish! Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Just for your information. Almark fired today. No current to be seen but the kings and snapper were biting. Also a few stripe marlin caught today as well.
  19. Sounds like a great solo day on the water! The wirrah cod in the pic mightn't be the feed you were looking for. Terrible plate fish but the bream should make up for it! Cheers scratchie!!!
  20. Sorry mate. He runs private charters. There is no operator that I know of up here that travels to almark! But there are heaps of raiders that come up this way and sometimes look for people to travel wide with and share expenses. Maybe put up a post asking! Cheers scratchie!!!
  21. What a great day to spend on the water with your dad! Great catch fellas, well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Great work Steve! You had me licking my lips with the prawns and then a nice feed of flatty, oh yeah! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  23. Yeah good stuff mate. Heard there were a few about. Really glad you were one that got one! Well done champ! We stayed inshore and managed a few pannies! Hope you get a few more! I'm so looking forward to the marlin season. Cheers scratchie!!!
  24. How did you go mate? I heard of a few marlin and YFT caught wide today! Have a mate running a charter tomorrow so I should hear a bit more from almark!

    Phobias!

My nieces husband is an electrician for a crane operator. He works on the largest ones in Australia fixing anything that goes wrong. Often has to climb out on the booms on the top of big buildings. He says sometimes it can sway more than 3m. Everytime he shows me the photos I feel sick. Seriously, it's not even half funny! I wouldn't do that for all the tea in china!
