    Well Done Jeff,

Have thoroughly enjoyed your posts this year form Broughton Island.

Some very impressive fish there mate.

Maybe this year we will get the chance to come fish your area and learn a few tricks!

    Regards, Toby.

Thanks Toby! Would be good to have a “meet up” this year but unfortunately we’ll let the government determine that.

This time last year I spraying my property with water as the bush fires were approaching.

What a difference a year makes.

    Cheers

Thanks rebel. It’s been a crazy year that’s for sure!

Yes you've had quite a year - congrats on becoming a grandad by the way - did get a measure on her? ha.

Be assured your posts have made a crappy year much more bearable and unlike many successful fishermen you are happy to share your knowledge - a wonderful attribute and you deserve the notoriety. I also enjoyed your podcast which has led me to listening to many more of that series!

Happy New Year to you and all Fishraiders!

    Fil

Thanks very much Fil. It certainly has been quite a year with a lot of confusion. I think it’s made us all look to what is important in our lives. For me, fishing is a big part of the de-stress so I just enjoy every moment I’m out there!

Nice catch for a short trip especially when you allow for travel time.

Cheers. Short trips work well sometimes. Leaves plenty of the day for family

Enjoy the family cook up 👍

Thanks KC. Very satisfying watching someone catch their biggest fish ever. His adrenaline was going and he was pretty excited.

    Nice one mate.

Did you launch at Shoal bay, what’s the ramp like?

Cheers. Yep shoal bay. I’m not going near little beach. Ramp was good but it was a big high tide!

Good work again Scratchie, nice fish for the plate, and teaching relos the art of snapper fishing.

Thanks yowie! It will make for a good feed tomorrow night!

  5. G’day raiders,

With the Xmas festivities out of the way, some of my family came up to visit! I managed to get my nephew and brother in law out this morning. Looking at the weather there was only a very short window and we took it.
Left the ramp at 5am, casting by 530. Both my relos new to plastic fishing but we stuck to the plan. First drift and they must have thought that I was having them on as I came up tight 4 times with 2 decent snapper. A bit more tuition and another drift and they started to feel some nibbles and finally one of them lands one for the box. Then another and another! Changed a few locations and finally the in-law has a bit of drag pulling. I wind up fast and turn my attention to him and with a bit of coaching we land the biggest fish he’s ever caught!
And with we called it a morning and head hone in a southerly slop! Back home by 9am! Happy Days 🤙

    cheers scratchie!!!

  6. Haha, nice one KC.
That’s way better than the attempts I’ve tried. When the skipper came up, it was so quiet, that I gave his skute a go! He called it “the dart”. Cause that’s how it casted.
Just can’t drag myself away from what works 🤔

    cheers scratchie!!!

  7. G’day raiders,

What a different year it has been for everyone. From bushfires, to floods to a worldwide pandemic! But like all fishraiders do, we have taken it in our stride and pushed on with the adversities that we have faced and have continued with our passion of fishing and got out there when we could and done our best! For me, I’ve ticked a few boxes and continued to “just keep casting”.
A few highlights this year for me has been firstly the birth of my first grandchild and what a beautiful little girl she is. ❤️
Then I managed to get my mugshot in the “fish monthly” magazine and then the podcast I did with “Australian lure fishing . Com.
Add that to the my pb of a 95cm snapper, quite a few of whiskers brothers and to finish it off with an unexpected yellow fin tuna. Well I think that’s a pretty awesome year!
There has also been the many raiders that I have caught up with this year, it’s actually been a big year!
I know not everyone has been as fortunate during these times but I hope that some of my reports were entertaining and a break from the daily grind.
Let’s hope we can have a more positive year in 2021. I also hope I can catch up with many more of you soon and I wish you all tight lines in the future!

    cheers scratchie!!!

  8. Yeww, killed it bro! What a great decision to go for a fish whilst your bored. Whiting are a great fish to target for a bit of fun. And yes, I always use the red mustard long shanks. They work really well.

    cheers scratchie!!!

Just because you inject salt water into your fish, just like some butchers do to their steaks, to make them look fatter !!!    :074:

Haha! But I actually meant that fab has stopped feeding them for you 🤣🤣

  10. Thanks for all the replies raiders!

Sorry for the short report but I was knackered. It was definitely trying conditions at first with some solid swell but it settled down nicely although with persistent rain. No escape in an open boat either!
The fish went 86cm and solid 9kg.
Unfortunately this fish is not whiskers. It was caught in a different area, although it did have a small hook on its stomach along with 3 whole fish.
Nothing of it will go to waste and the frame will be donated to fisheries!

  11. G’day raiders,

Just a quick report from this morning cos I’m pretty tired.
Headed up to Broughton nice and early this morning. We were on a mission to bag a few reds for Xmas lunch.
After playing with a heap of rat kings, we thought it was best to move and try find our target! Didn’t take long and they came rolling in. Then things went quiet so we moved. Then after my mate releasing a decent shark I came uptight! Gave me a heap of stick but manage to land my Xmas lunch in one go! 💪💪

Plenty of rain, sharks, bust offs but we kept casting and got our rewards!

Another cracking day in Port Stephens!
