  1. Just awesome JonD. Being on the water is not always just about fishing is it. The sights we see are sometimes just amazing!

Not a great photo on an iPhone but watching this humpback about to launch out the water on sunrise, had me put my rod down and just admire!

  2. Great report Richard.

Firstly, our ramps are terrible up here on a low tide. I went and checked them out the day before so we launched at soldiers.
Secondly, at least you found a few to play with. It was a very quiet day out there. As you know, we headed to seals. All the conditions were perfect for snapper. With the exception of two things. CURRENT AND FISH!!! 😢

So in the scheme of things, with your mishaps, late start and lost fish. You still did pretty good and at least you had a crack with the soft plastics. Hit me up next time your this way and I’ll jump on and show you a few more spots!

Maybe Scratchie could do a live Zoom session at Broughton Island and we could watch him in action! 😂

Haha! I actually have done that via Instagram but the reception very grainy.

I’d be happy to do a Q an A if people are interested. And as Mrsswordy suggested, have a virtual meeting for the catch up!

Hi Scratchie, Wondering where you are thinking of launching from. Last year we moved to soldiers due to the weather.  Also any Peeps want to share accommodating or boats? I normally fly solo but will take my boat.

Yes mate! Either little beach or shoal bay! Will just depend on tides and the state of the ramps. Hopefully the council are on the ball. 🤣

That was the best 1/2 hour of audio I have ever listened to.

Well done Scratchie, would love to meet you one day.

mate do you use scents on your SP's?

    cheers

Cheers mate. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I hope it helped in some way. To answer your question, yes I do with zman’s and similar sp’s. But not on the gulp as the scent is impregnated throughout the plastic! 👍

out of curiosity Jeff you mentioned the weather being the deciding factor re seal rocks would that have been the water temp at Broughton being the deciding factor, cheers

Cheers Dieter. No mate, the wind and swell are usually the deciding factors. Mainly because our type of fishing soley relies on our drift. It’s a long run to seals and if you are completely exposed it can make it unfishable. At least with Broughton there is always somewhere to get a half decent drift!

  7. Agh, the little gibber. Try doing a search of the area and you should come up with some information. I caught plenty of longtail there this year and last. The beaches around that were once renown for big jew. Never fished it land based but seen plenty spinning from the rocks there.

    Hey Raiders,

I'm 26 years of age and used to be on the forum 4-5 years ago but forgotten my login. lol

I currently live on the Central Coast and fish either out of Broken Bay or Terrigal on a dark blue 21ft SeaSwirl Striper centre console 'The Panty Dropper', but travel from Port Stephens to Kiama depending where the good currents/water is. I have fished with a few young lads that frequent this forum, and put some of them onto their 'Firsts' - When are we fishing again? 😉😂

I have fished for as long as I can remember, originally introduced to fishing by my uncles fishing areas like Cronulla, Wollongong etc. beach & rock fishing. I was really into my yak fishing 8-10 years ago until I purchased a small Formosa centre console. Love all types of fishing (Currently have the Hairtail bug) but my heart is game fishing out wide, catching the bug 5 years ago hooking 4 Marlin and a good Dollie the first day (Yes, I now know what a doughnut is!) 😆

For a crust I am a sales assistant selling Modular Homes, so the fishing window is usually only weekends or night times unless I see a good day coming up. I look forward to adding reports (Fingers Crossed!) and learning a lot more from this site.

Look forward to seeing you on land, or the water. Tight lines. Yeeeewww 🤙🍻

    Cheers, Brendo

Welcome to the forum Brendo. Look forward to you adding a few reports 👍

Great effort boys. We went out on Wednesday to “The gibber“, then “21”. We got hammered by sharks and dropped a good snapper.

At least you got out Bob. Those areas tell me you were fishing deep and with baits. I don’t fish those areas because of the sharks. Usually plenty of trag at the gibber. The island this time year is way more productive.

    As always, great effort guys!

Thats a nice bag of some quality eating fish. Judging by the water in the background conditions look ideal!

    Thanks Sam!
All the fish were in good condition and will make for a good feed. Conditions were perfect for snapper fishing except the water temp still hasn’t cooled down enough yet! Lots of casts today!

  12. G’day raiders,

Got out today with @back cruncher, his mate and my son Brandon.
We were in two minds wether to hit seal rocks or just stay at Broughton. Well the weather decided for us and Broughton it was. The first spot we hit usually produces and Mick managed to land a legal king. Not a touch for the rest of us, so we decided to move on! Next spot Mick was on again, this time to a decent snapper and into the esky. I then came up tight but it chewed through the leader. We reset the drift and I finally managed on for the box and Mick pulled another. Then the live rod goes off and Jnr was to quick for everyone and sets the hook. Decent fight and up comes a solid king. We moved around a fair bit but couldn’t find anymore fish. So after plenty casts we decided to head home!
Always a great day on the water and it was good to see Mick getting a few after a fair break!

    Tight lines,

    cheers scratchie!!!
