Mate there is more fish in the bay than you think!Awesome. I always leave the boat at home when we go up there thinking the bay only produced dolphins !
If you bring the boat let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

Sure was caught in the bay! The bay is an absolute Mecca for Jew! As well as the beaches out the front. I'm yet to get one from there yet but seen some stonkers pulled out. I will one day when I can drag myself away from my boat!

Good on ya for getting out there. There weather very different up here too! Rain, wind, sun then repeated. The fishing was much the same too!

Port stephens is always a good spot to start!!! Fishes well anytime of year but around then I will be targeting, snapper and kings!

Hi all,
Went out today with fellow raider diesel on our end of year bash with our local fishing club. I managed to talk them into having at the beautiful port stephens.
After a few quiet ales the night before, the plan was hatched and we stuck to our guns. First of all we drifted Taylor's beach for about 10 whiting in the live tank, of which diesel contributed most. Then it was time to hit Jew spot!!! Out went the livies and we both threw a few SP's for no result. Was a gorgeous morning on the water and without much action happening it was time for a little siesta, as the livies were still out.
Then just as I was comfortable zzzzzzzz. I jumped up, grabbed the rod and strike. I knew what it was, it was just a question of how big??? After a great little fight and some good team work, on board comes this fine specimen!
Due to a bit of damage sustained during the fight, it had to come back and feed the boys! It measured 78cm and 4.7kg and a great result for team scratchie. There's a few about ATM so get out there if can!

West head probably the best grounds. Or one of the bays in Cowan. Jerusalem bay is very good at night.

What sort of retrieve do u use for the sp thanks

From what I've learnt so far, the retrieve is not as important as keeping it in the strike zone. Basically work the sp where you would keep your bait. A single lift, pause and retrieve is fine. Maybe a double flick, pause, single flick. You need to be able to feel the sp. hope that helps. I've only just started!

Mine either. I'm a big bait fisho. But times evolve and SP's are all the rage. I really don't care what I'm using as long as I'm getting a line wet!

Hey, there's heaps of info in this chat section on rigs etc for jewfish. Do a search and have a read. Absolute wealth of information! If your doing an all nighter, livies are the go!
