  1. Thanks Katoe, it's always nice to be rewarded with a jew. Always a special day for me, gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside.
  2. Thanks. For me, it always seems that the smaller specimens are more uncooperative. I don't know how many times the smaller flathead and bream manage to spike me.
  3. Hi Raiders, Went out the other day with Aero.gard on the lower Georges in his boat to chase some jews and bream. It was too windy to chase bream so we stuck at it for the jews flicking some nice holes where the water wasn't so murky. We had a few golden opportunities with some good strikes and one even hooked by Aero.gard for a decent amount of time before the hook was pulled. Bummer! We were spewing. Eventually, one did stick and the fight was a strange one. Fought it to the boat quickly and that's when it got tricky. The soapie went for its signature run under the boat and across the other side. I was convinced my rod was gonna snap due to the awkward angle. I was down on both knees (praying?) with the rod leaning over the side of the boat, 3/4 of which was in the water. Eventually the fish surfaced and we got it on board. That was when a funny moment occurred... I held the fish up to take a photo (which almost didn't happen) and instantly it starts thrashing, back in the water she goes! Over and out the side of the leccy in the photo. The fish was not in the boat for more than 5 seconds - it had managed to spit the lure, almost avoid a photo and find freedom. We thought we didn't have a photo of the capture but fortunately we did have just the one below. From the photo, you can clearly see the fish about to jump free. The photo doesn't do it justice but I estimate the fish was around 55 cm. So that was that. I've also been doing some landbased over the past month and I will be putting up a wrap about that soon.
  4. Well done young man. Congratulations on the new PB and hope you crack it again soon. Loving the pictures, keep up the good work.
  5. Good on you for putting up a report. With all this rain, fishing is probably going to be hit and miss due to the sudden change of conditions. Sounds like a productive and fun session.
  6. Fantastic. Looking forward to the other ones.
  7. That is awesome Jeff! What a cache.
  8. Thanks T.C., it swam off with purpose. Thanks Sean. Thanks adamski. Thanks Nathan, it was a great day. DPI recommends fish and shellfish from the Cooks River to be not be eaten. Thanks philfish61.
  9. This was in the Cooks River. Good to hear that you have been having success with the jews. Thanks Witha, it was a great day all-round with fish coming our way readily. Thanks Ryder. Thanks salmon, we all have those weekends unfortunately. Thank you Dave! I certainly try. The one I dropped a month or so ago hurt so this was a nice consolidation prize. Thanks James! I'm no legend however but it pays to have a healthy dose of luck sometimes. Cheers Katoe. Sometimes the spot at one's doorstep is a good place to fish. Cheers Fishdrawal. Yes he does Ian. Now how many years have you been fishing the Cooks Stewy? He knows that river like the back of his hand. Thank you Luke. That has got to be one of the highlights of catching these fish for me and you know that feeling better than anyone. Just seeing them swim off under their own steam. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.
  10. Well done guys on a cracking session and also to Steve for putting Adamski on his 'best day's fishing out there (he's) had bar none'. Here on Fishraider we take notice of the good deeds of others.
  11. It went a modest 80 cm on the tape Jeff.
  12. Haha, thanks again Stewy. Good luck, that weather forecast is looking ominous. Thanks Richard, I was either using 14lb FC rock or 15lb Spiderwire leader with a strong braid around 10lb in rating (but would break at much higher lb). Yep I was cautious because my drag was a bit too tight and I needed to be ready to angle the rod in the event the fish went for a run. Thanks 4myson. I'll definitely remember this one, not just the fish but the shenanigans and good times we shared today on the boat.
  13. Greetings Raiders, This morning, Stewy generously took me aboard the Fishraider boat for a session of bream and mulloway. Conditions were perfect - the wind was light, overcast with a hint of rain and a tide change. We tried our luck at a few bridges only to find our plastics being constantly hassled by tailor. Stewy managed several largeish tailor to 40cm. Where there is bait, there are predators and finally we struck gold when I got a hit on the Berkley powerbait jerkshad... The hook set was strong and true and away we went. See video of what ensued. After that, we decided to finish up with a relaxing fish for bream. Stewy poled plenty of them feisty fish in to wrap up a reward session. Once again, thank you Stewy for taking me out and giving me the opportunity to chase these elusive fish. It was released so hopefully it could hassle another lucky angler another day.
  14. Terrific report and fishing with your partner in crime Witha. A couple of very nice looking bonnies and some other great fish to boot. Keep it up.
  15. They were most definitely tailor. You don't loose too many poppers to small choppers so there might have been some bigger models there that night. It's always a real downer when good bait goes to waste - probably torn to bits by pickers. I assume you caught the squid, so at least you were able to catch your own fresh bait.
  16. Well done OldMateJohn. Cracker tailor and the smile says it all. It's gonna take some beating to surpass this PB. Also good on you for releasing her.
  17. Yes I think this has happened before to another member who also racked up a lot of photos.
  18. Maybe it is just the picture. Here's a Sydney Cardinalfish I caught previously for comparison.
  19. Well done on a cracking session David. You have been quiet for a while but you have come back in a big way. Hopefully you get stuck into more productive sessions like this in the near future.
  20. Well done to you two. Nice report and I look forward to hearing about many more adventures that you two undertake.
  21. It's good to hear that you guys teamed up for a productive session. Also, well done on the new PB kingfish.
  22. That would have been a handful. Well done boys.
