  2. any port in a storm mate, just go for it
  3. theres no water temp mate. unless your wider than the fads...... dollies usually feed actively about 21 to 22 and above.
  4. its a bit early yet mate might be some juvenile kings thats about it give it another month or 2
  5. have the bait in freespool or just over to stop backlashing once youve been bit let the fish take the bait for as long as you think he needs to eat it or count to 10 make sure your pointing the rod at the fish. slowly up the drag or up it and wind into the fish and lift the rod tip up (dont strike). and away i t goes if you try and hook up conventionally like you would on a J hook you will find you wont hook up at all.

  9. hi mate, think about how your transducer is placed. and think about where the beams will be headed. of course on most sounders you can set it up so its kind of scanning in front of you. if you find a good patch of bait and its deeper slow the boat down and get the crew to drop a jig if no action maybe pull the lures in and focus on finding the bait again. you can also use a small amount of dye in the water. 2 or 3 drops of food colouring works well in good flat conditions to mark the area you found the bait if it doesnt take u an hour to find your spot again, as the dye would have moved you can slow up and put a bait down (x marks the spot) i mark the bait on my chartplotter but if you dont have that luxury. use the dye or even set a gps mark on ur handheld gps this is also good when you want to find a spot and anchor up further as not to spook fish. depending on the shape on the sounder, drop a bait jig over. if you pick up what ever is getting balled up. put it back down to its friends but with some nice jewellry
  10. sounds like a good deal guys it will be awesome fun. i will be up there. ill wave from my seafarer

    Hook Sizes

simple rule as stated match the size of the hook to the bait
  13. Brisbane water can be on at times, but sometimes you have to work The top of paddys on the tide change can produce some solid bream and flathead and the occasional school jew. Theres a couple of deep holes near the daleys point side of the rip Where booker bay marina is, its on the opposite side of the marina, sound around and you should pick them up. Good for the run in tide Then on the run out The booker bay side of the bridge (non marina side) and another deep hole there. Picked up a few nice jewies A few of the oyster racks off paddies has some nice bream usually too. The usual flathead drift on the flats at Ettalong and half tide rocks Also had a few schools of salmon/tailor along here lately which has been good fun We also encountered a school of macktuna right near the leases at killcare too. Have fun

    Swansea Boat Ramps

theres 2 good ramps on either side of the bridge the one on the ocean side is a little steeper my mate tows an allison 189 with a straight 6 commy so he usually launches from the ramp on the otherside of the bridge as he struggles to get out of the other ive launched at the ramp twice in my viking and no problems. its a good 2 laned one, parking is sweet no crowd as yet although will get worse closer to summer yep its safe make sure u have ur life jackets on when u go under the bridge on out to at least moon island as it is classed as a bar and theres a coastal patrol manned tower on the headland on the way out and they will get you for not wearing them.
  16. with some good water temp and some dollies around it can take less than a week
  17. uknown amount of rope sounds a bit dangerous, you really need to make sure you have the right length, the more rope the more chance someone can wrap their prop in it. you better give me the marks so i can keep an eye on it for you
  18. some good water coming down, but doesnt take much to blow it all out to sea
  19. have to show us the final product! cant wait to see it!
  20. paint it to look like a squid. or maybe some reflective tape. i would maybe run a bit thicker braid if you can, you get it snagged u will lose it all. just make sure u arent manually bringing it up or u might cut ur hands on the braid. and old handline or even better an alvey reel would be sweet for this. maybe construct some sort of bracket to get it away from the boat enough. a good way to record how far you have your bait down would be maybe some coloured heat shrink or even electrical tape say every 5metres or 10metres etc now all u need is a release clip and your set.
  21. my girlfriend fishes 3/4 of the trips we venture out on, she is very keen to get her first marlin so shes been putting the hours in even when we troll. when we bottom bash she seems to out fish some of my mates. starting to do her own rigs etc now too guess depends on the chick really
  22. i agree i would have walked away from it straight away

    Which Sounder?

joe most of the good high powered sounders usually have the option in both either transom mounted or thru hull it doesnt make that much difference i am looking at getting the furuno 582l the model up from the 600 u could do a thru hull on a platey but you gotta get it done professionally or you are opening the door to electrolysis at the end of the day it depends where you are going to need it. and i doubt you will need it to pick up bait in 100m of water or trying to pick up harpuka on the canyon floor below! search for some reviews on sounders, when it comes to buying get some yank prices and go to a few tackle shops you will be surprised how a few of them will match.
