  1. Always try to match the hook to the size of the yakka theres no point having a 20/0 circle on a 5cm yakka...
  2. nice mako dan. we came across about an 80kg model off bbwide just swimming around near some traps. wouldnt take anything i threw at him. the cold water and probbaly the fact there is a shitload of bait in the water and nothing feeding on them, makos are probably eating themselves silly
  3. mate fished it last week dan. coupla good reds and couldnt stop something that took a live slimey down deep. apart from that not much around
  4. ive fished it once. for bout an hour i think they are a bit well fed or too captivated. they wouldnt hit any lures or sps' the only thing they seemed to fall too was bits of raw chicken that we got given as part of the pay got a murray around 40cm. the fish looked a bit ill and didnt put up much of a fight. recapture rate on these fish are obviously pretty high and they cant take it too well. swam away ok though still good fun when the swell and winds up and nowhere else is fishable. its worth a look
  5. carn allen you know its dead at this time of year! wait a couple of months and we will at least see a few makos and maybe the occasional tuna. mind you, you would think you would come across some sambos at least. might be time to get a harpoon installed on the beast???

    Nice Boat ?

obviously the boat was designed on some sort of specifics? its more targeted for certain conditions. on the hull shape theres no problems with taking that out to the fad on a good day, the hull will be a pretty hard run out as it will tend to try and run on the top and punch through things. there is a pro boat out of broken bay that looks a little like that and i can say ive seen him coming through box head at a million miles and hour and all i could see was spray. the wheel house is right at the back of the boat and he just uses teh front to smash through everything in front of him looks like its nice and thick too 4mm sides? nice and beamy and stable at rest also. apart from the hull the initial layout of the boat looks quite good. nice big cockpit and the console has been done well, it even has a lockable glove box by the look of it. good job so far, i even like the colour! as bombora says glass is a softer ride when chasing fish out side the heads but the technology of plate is getting better. take the bar crusher boats for an example they have a super deep v that performs really well outside but as u know with boating the deeper the v the more unstable at rest. to stop this they have a water ballast system where by the boat has compartments that fill out with around 400 litres of water making it solid as a rock as soon as u start moving the water fills out. the rides are still harder on plate alloy but they dont have to be bone crunching
  7. Yep rekless i was. its pretty quiet out though. plenty of bait around but no predators im actually surprised at the amount of bait around in close. its time to stock the freezers lads
  8. not much around at the moment we picked up 2 whalers around 20 -30kg on sunday and was hooked up to a decent shark for around about 40mins until it decided to pop us off, 10kg doesnt last long in those conditions

    Streaker Boats

hehe yeah i know what you mean i tend to get a bit wet in the centre cab so im goin for the half cab thing. you're pretty much after what im after and cause im buying myself my budget is about 30k. mine will be strictly game fishing use so im looking for a very stable offshore platform. theres a heap of boats out there that look the goods. its just a matter of keeping track of the market and wait for that beauty to come for sale. im predominantly looking for either a really good boat for cheap with a dodgy engine and replace and put a brand new 4 stroke. or a good boat with low hours on a 4 stroke. or i could trade up i guess. also have the option of a moored boat like and old berti but you will probbaly be buying alot of problems. the only reason id rather somehting bigger with a big diesel is it will probbaly raise more fish. unless i chuck in a huge stereo with some subs on the bottom of the boat or something !

    Streaker Boats

Wayne, I too am in the process of upgrading and have been researching for a couple of months now. what sort of money are you guys looking to spend? the streaker are good boats off shore. they have a very deep v like the caribbeans. haines are also good offshore boats, my current boat is a custom built 5.2m centre cab based on a haines hull. also depends on what you have to tow ur vehicle etc. let me know and we might be able to help each other out with a bit of info. cheers, Col
  25. sounds like a good day mate. well done. beats being at work and you got a nice feed!
