  2. Raiders

Looking for a deckie for friday as i need to do some setup and trials on my auto pilot and my new tanacoms.

The plan if nothing goes wrong will be launch at b/bay 4-5am and do set up of auto pilot then of to mollys for some livies and if the weather holds, out to 12mile to test the auto pilot and new tanacoms. If all goes well troll back to w/fad and have a toss around there for a while then back to ramp approx 7pm.

All that is needed to bring is some bait and gear if you have it. I can supply gear if needed.

    Pm or call 0411266013

  3. Hi AussieBigBob, I don't know about all these Tiagras, electric torture racks and on water filetting devices of yours, but I was hoping you would hang onto a couple of TLD 50's for Captain Cook Bridge and just keep the block and tackle for the whiting part of the session.

    Thanks mate

    Cheers

You wont have to worry about me being with out a tiagra. But i also think the the electric's will make short work of them jew's just as the 50 would.

Just finished spooling them with 50lb braid 330mts .

    cheers

P/s If i was married i would have trouble picking which one would be more sexy. wife or reel :biggrin2::074:

  4. Mate, i have half a granny flat looking very similar to that, and it KILLS ME! The thought of the thousands of dollars i have spent evolving my fishing habbit to what it is now... And ive narrored it down to 6 rods... That includes a light, medium and heavy plastic outfit, a trolling and tolling/baitcatching outfit and 1 game combo, and 1 beach/rock outfit for that rare occasion.

The other 10 outfits can GO. i dont wanna see them anymore!

Not a cheap hobby is it?... Worth every bloody cent, love it to death, but not cheap at all!

    Musty

I myslef have done that on many accasion ( wonder why i need so many ) but it's hard to visit a tackle shop and come out with nothing.

I have tried to let some of it go but it is very hard and i do believe it is a sickness. It is a expensive habit

( sports ) but what else is there.

It's that bad that i have 12 tigra but at the most can only troll with 5, even knowing this i still find it hard to get rid of some but hopefully there will be a day when i do.

I truely think that my sickness has stemed from being a 2 x devorcee. So if i look at the seven figure sum i gave away there, my fishing tackle habit in the high five's is still cheap.

Well that is my justification, But i am a sick sick person

    Cheers

  6. Gday Bob,

Here is another idea for you to think about.

Have a looka the products at this web site

    http://www.multipanel.com.au/index.html

They have a marine fridge panel that would do the trick in insulating the kill tank and it is high density and so you would only loose a limited amout of wall and floor thickness. The panels are glued into place with their special glue.

You would then need to line to outside of the panel.

Instread if using fibreglass I would think about using one of the water based rubber compounds that are used in the building industry to tank pond or pools with. Easyier to use than fibreglass.

I have recently used other products from this company on a building project that I did last year.

I got the link to this comapny off this site about 12 months ago.

If you would like any further details give a call 0423320825 or PM me

    Cheers

I will be ringing the company tomorrow as i think this is way to go.

  7. i switched over... purchased a Miya Epoch CX-4 pro (only the baby) internationally a week before the $$ crashed. it has about 1100m of 100lb whiplash on it matched to a Tanacom rod with swivel tip (feels like a perfectly matched combo). still yet to get it wet but its got some friggen torque, miya epochs are known as tough and ive been told even the little CX-4 is great guns!

Any photos of the rig. As i am interested in the rod.

  8. Hi Raiders

I posted this some time ago and was wondering if any more raiders have made the move to electric reels. If so lets hear about which reels and why.

Since i posted this i have done many hours with the early reels and have been quite happy with them. So happy in fact that i have just order two new tanacom 500s which are due to arrive next week. I can't wait to get them out on the water and test them out. So keep tuned for the report.

    cheers

P/s It's like waiting for xmas all over again :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

  9. Had a think about the size. Not sure how often you really need the full length and there is a fair few esky boxes that already fit in that size compartment and have lids that seal well

The cheapest option would be a broccoli foam box from the markets / grocers and see how well the ice lasts . Cheap - like free and lasts Ok and replace if it gets smelly.

There are plenty of the polystyrene foam boxes used by weight loss companies and food distributers in various sizes.

That way you can have your second smaller esky in there for food and drinks not smelling of fish.

The reason I am avoiding suggesting a home made fibregass one is that to get a good gelcoat finish wilth inbuilt insulation you need to do a male and female mould and that is time consuming and can get expensive. If you made it and did it properly I'd pull 20 out of the moulds as every barcrusher owner will want one so they have ice that lasts in a sealed esky and contaminents on the deck of the boat won't taint the fish hold.. Still a stupid design followed by so many boat builders where deck drains into the fishbox and so simple to fix in manufacture with a drain channel around the hatch and also does that drain into the bilge with all the fish scales etc?? Depends how good you want it to look and your budget. Not that hard to knock up one and then flocoat it and it will look commercial like the inside of a old FG hull but ---how pretty do you want it?

Does the factory have an option or is there a barcrusher forum or owners club with other peoples solutions?

A simple cut down fish box or council container will make a pretty big difference to ice usage as the plastic and air around it is a bad conductor of heat so with ice not touching the ally which is a very good conductor it will melt slower.

Doesn't solve the heat radiated down from the lid ( deck floor) as I assume the extra ally is just re-enforcing not insulation in the lid?

    Pel

PS Have sent you a PM showing all the detail method , time , materials and work that goes into do a FG one

    Pel

Thanks for that and i have got your pm so will look at it tonight and let you know which way i will go.

  10. Hi raiders

I have a spare spot on the tinny.

If the weather holds i am thinking of browns, 12mile, the peak or any where else there might be fish.

The day will consist of some trolling and bottom bashing and jigging or what ever esle come ups. so if interested please call on 0422009685 or pm.

It will be an early start at cooks river 4 am and all that is required is fish knowledge in all types of fishing and some bait.If you want to bring your own gear thats fine.

    Cheers

    Bob

  11. It is tempting to insulate and glass straight into the kill tank but if you are anything like me I like to be able to see all structural parts of boats so i like the liner Idea especially so you can just lift it out to go to the cleaning tables and also to clean the tank out.

    Pel

I'm the same . I will take photos and get dementions asap I do have a few ideas but need someone with the know how.

  12. Roberta

I showed this post to the :wife: and told he i could get a larger pair of oars for the crusher to help save on the fuel bill like this great women was doing.

I can tell you it did not go down to well :ranting2::ranting2: as we are now one coffee mug short.

I think i will stay with the yammie for a while.

  13. Hi Bob. What do you want to know and can you describe what you mean by insert?

Is it a divider or are you talking a liner ? If just a divider to keep squid from yaccas I would probably do a polly prop one.

For example we have done Divider before by just waxing , then gelcoating a piece of ply covered in plastic ( to get smooth fiinsh) , laying up a few sheets of cloth and then flowcoating that.. We have alos done a small bait holders for bait board by getting the right shaped tupperware container and rubbish bin from the $2 shop and trimming it and using it as a template / mould. They are good as they all come out of injection moulding eqiipment whose dies have avery slight taper so they slip out OK and have a great surface finish ( ie shiny gelcoat)

Basicaly you can use anything as a template as long as you can apply a release agent to it ( pva glue works so does wax)

Laying the glass up is not that hard a job and there is plenty of fibreglass shops that will do it for you pretty cheap if you supply them the mould and not too higher expectations. They have the gelcoat in a spraygun everyday and ease of measuring out resins and cloth on hand and rather tahn buying release agents and wax and having left over resins etc .

Photo of what you have got , what you want or want to copy and you'll probably get a few ideas from everyone.

Best one we have done was standard chain store kitchen rubbish bin made into seat pedestal with storage on a mates boat, strong , right height , some storage and small enough footprint on teh deck.

In the floor of the barcrusher is a large kill tank. The problem with this tank is that ice does not last more than half a day. This is due to two reason one being the friction ( heat ) caused by the boat pushing through the water and 2 is when you are at rest the crusher fill's with water which is also the bottom of the tank so if the water temp is 20 plus the ice melts quickly. This makes the kill tank a total wast of time. So my idea is to make a fiberglass lining to help insulate the ice slurry from the external temps.

  14. Ok Raiders

As Santa said I had to wait till next Xmas for my tinny upgrade :thumbdown: I need to fit a furuno 1kw transducer to my old tinny.

    So my question is.

Does anyone here on fish raiders have a 1kw furuno transducer fitted to a bar crusher as I would like to fit a through hull transducer but not sure as it is double skin. Any help with this would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Bob

  15. not using enough backing thinking that the 600yd spool of braid you just purchased will fill the reel... but it doesnt & now you have an underspooled reel.

take it off, do it again & now you cant fit all the damn braid on because you added a little bit too much extra.

    Chris

The easy way to fix this: buy 2000mt spools this way the backing is not an issue and you save money as well if you spool more than one

    cheers
