  1. Hi Aussie Big Bob ,

Nice tacle storage i have similar rod racks myself , But i see in your first photo you have a rod rack with only 1 rod on it so you will have to head to the tackle shop and fill her up... Also its always better fishing with a brand spanking rod and catching a top fish...... Top set of downriggers i must say.....

    Cheers Dogtooth..... :1fishing1: John......

    Dogtooth

Its nearly full already i will post photos when full.

It wont be long with all this bad weather. As the only thing to do is head for the tackle shop and buy more gear for when the weather gets better.

We as fishos are very lucky because the only real store we want to visit is always open on sundays.

    THE TACKLE STORE :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

So with this in mind we all know where i am heading tomorrow.

    cheers

  2. youve hit a sore spot with me there bob ,i used to have a tackle room

then when my daughter was born i had a tackle corner and cuboard then i had a cuboard then i had two shelfs in the cubpoard then one shelf in that bloody cuboard, now my freinds i am fighting ,kicking and screaming to hang onto the last half shelf in there

and i think im loosing that too

    cheers arman

    Arman

It has been much the same for me. Except i bit he bullet and moved back to daddys. But now i am finding that daddy is starting to have a bit of a winge. He can not under stand that when the weather is no good i go to the tackle shop to get my weekly fix.

And as most of us fishos know there is not many trips to the tackle shop where we walk out empty handed.

    cheers

  3. ......Manufacturer making your favourite surface lure obsolete......

Now I wonder which one that would be Hodgey?? Bet I know!!! :1prop:

    1. Definitely, losing an expensive lure to a fish

    2. Not catching when all around you are ....... even when using an identical rig & lure!

    3. Knots in braid - who has the time to untangle them??

    4. buying some tackle, then finding you already had some underneath something else!

Finally picking up the Tiagra that you have worked soo much overtime to afford way back when fuel was under a dollar. You take it out of the box, admire it, stroke it, you even give it bit of a caress. You maticulously pay attention to how much tension is on the line while you spool it up, you lay the line perfectly so the reel is full without a strand of line out of place. You mount the reel on you favourite 37kg custom stick, ONLY TO REALISE THAT YOU DIDNT PUT THE BLOODY BOLTS IN FOR THE ROD LOCK :1badmood: Decision time, do you just say stuff it and go without? Of course you don't, it has to be perfect so you wind the line off and do it all over again.

About an hour later and with forearms Arnie would be proud of, she goes in the cover to be stored for what will most likely be months because you cant afford the fuel to get out to the shelf.

    Thats what i hate

    Sponot

BLOODY BOLTS IN FOR THE ROD LOCK :mad3:

I thought this was something that i just did so i am glad to find out its not. Its just sad that you had to go through the pain to make me feel better :biggrin2:

    cheers

  5. I'll remember that Bob!

From what I've seen and heard they can definitely handle fish on 50 and 80lb. I think the name Okuma is scaring a lot of ppl and they aren't basing their arguments on any merit.

Of course the Stellas going to be a better reel it's RRP is 900 dollars more!

I hope for my sake this doesn't lose me a good fin'...

    Ant

Please do not get me wrong. My opinion is not based on merit as i am an owner of okuma gear in the lower classes 10 to 15 and i will say that they spend more time at home than in the boat.

I will take my trusty charter special before the okuma's

    cheers

  6. Ant

All the best with your choice , but the first thing i would like you to think of when you lose that once in a life time fish ( yft ) is the word

    stella stella stella

and all of us that gave you our advice

The good thing about a life time warranty is it fixes the reel but will never fix that lost fish. So to sum it up you will get the reel fixed but will you ever trust it again. so is it realy a life time.

    regards

  7. looking at getting a Navman 5505i but after searching the net i found they have been replaced by the Northstar 550i

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is any difference in the 2 models as i can get the 5505i a bit cheaper but if there are better functions ect on the newer model i will go for it

    Thanks in advance

    Hoges

If i am right it is the same as i think navman has changed it's name to northstar. I am sure i read this somewhere.

    cheers

    bob

  8. Ant

The way you should be thinking is, if you do get a that once in a life time fin and the gear does not stand up to it for the sake of a few bucks how are you going to feel.

    Go the stella

    cheers

  9. Hi all raiders

I'm looking for a deckie to go for a run in the new tinny

I am thinking of a tuna run and a bottom bash at browns if the weather holds on saterday. so what i need is someone who can drive a boat or car with trailer and willing to bring own gear pefered and bring the pillies.

I do have spare gear if realy needed

    cheers

  10. Thanks bob,

Just a question, does the half cut pipe fit into the full pipe for puoring of lead?

    Cheers

    Luke

    Luke

    No

The full pipe was just to show you what it looked like before the cut. To hold the two halfs together just use a hose clamp from supercheap.

Here is just another handy hint, mould a pice of al foil onto the end to shut of any leaks if your cut is a bit off and once you have moulded this foil you can use it over and over again the same as the hose clamps and pipe

    Cheers

  12. Hi raiders

I have been so busy with fixing up the new boat that I have not had time to get it in the water for a spin.

And with having to return to work on Monday I thought I would treat myself to some new gear so off to the tackle shop I head. I arrive at the tackle with no idea of what I wanted to buy so just bought a few things in preparation for the up and coming marlin season.

So now with the purchases complete I thought I would share them with you all

    Cheers

  13. Luke

As promised I have now added the picture's for my Browns Mountain sinker moulds.

These are the moulds and sinkers that i am making today.

You will find that making the moulds is not hard and are far cheaper than buying them.

The water pipe that i have used properly cost $2 so if you can use a hacksaw and have someone who can weld you will save heaps by making them yourself and there is no limit to what weight you want.

So with your new lee pro 20 smelter you should have no problems making sinkers from 0 to 3 kg at 1/3 their cost

    Cheers

    Bob

P/s always take care when melting lead and the sinkers in the photo weigh 3kg

  14. Flatty hunter626

You’re a better man than me as I would not have the patient to take on such a task.

But good onya  and you will properly catch just as many fish as the rest of us.

And there is one thing that you should remember every time you launch it and that is beauty is in the eye of the beholder

    Cheers

    Bob

  15. Congrats Bob. Niiiiice boat! Hope she brings you many sizable fish!

If you don't mind me asking, what led you to buying aluminium over fibreglass (if fibreglass was an option)? I would imagine with a nice boat like that you would be doing more than estuary fishing. I have a 4.5m tinny and am currently debating whether my next boat, which will be about the size of yours, will be fibreglass.

    Cheers,

    Cam

    Cam

The reason's i went to aluminum is they only make the crusher in alloy.

2 This material suit's my way of life (low maintenance).

3 A little lighter to tow as a boat of the same size in glass would have also meant a car upgrade which was not in the budget.

4 I do believe that the chances of winning the lotto. Is slim or next to nothing,

so the berty on a mooring in a marina is properly out of the question. So all I should have to do with this one is a new donk every now and then and I will always have a good safe reliable boat at 1/3 its total replacement cost.

    Summary:

Glass is a lot more maintenance and as I have had glass boats before I know first hand how a small chip in the bottom of the boat that goes unrecognized for a period of time can cost big dollars to repair and when repaired leaves you a bit less confident in the boat

    Cheers

    Bob

  16. Now thats a sweet ride Bob , got to be lighter than the last girl !! Be interesting to see how the fuel consumption varies , that loooks like a similar sized donk to the last one .

    Ross

    Ross

    It is close

the last one was a 100 this one is a 150

    cheers
