In my opinion electric Downriggers are the only way to go.

Yes you could drive around all day but why not ring or go and see some of our great sponsors.

I sure that there prices will be great and there service and info will be even greater.

It is always better to buy from someone who will take the time to truly ensure that you are buying what you really need.

I have myself brought many items from our sponsors and have also been given some really good advice for fee as well. I would also like to add that i have never felt like i was forced to buy it just because i got the advice from them.

    Cheers

  4. Just caught this on a Tailor strip and hand line. 2lb and about 35cm long. NICE!!!post-959-1211629005_thumb.jpg

Good catch there. i use to fish dora creek quite a fair bit some years ago and it would still be one of my favorite spots on the lake.

I have caught flatties to 6kg just of the boat ramp flicking soft plastic around.

  5. I Have manual alvey winches myself, one reefmaster 12 inch and one reefqueen 14inch , i find the 12 inch better in rough conditions as it is one handle operation , and find that the ratio is easier to wind. As for electric , the miya epoch is a top reel ,spooled it up with 3000 metres of 200lb braid , used one last week and boy was it great to use . Will be down the coast next week using my mates , top investment if you ask me ... :1fishing1::1fishing1: Keep you posted :1fishing1: Cheers .. John

  7. Hi bob

I'm looking for a new lee pro 20

where could I pick one up and could you give some idea of price

    cheers

    Fishabout

Sorry it took so long to reply. You should be able to pick them up from any good gun shop for around $150.

But you must remember that if you want to pour moulds higher than 4 inches you have to do some mod's.

If you have not already read the post on ( cheap lead smelters ) have a look at it. You will see the mod's i had to do to get the larger moulds under it.

  8. Hi Big Bob...

I'm personally not into the electric reels myself prefering to still do it the labour intensive way....

but i do have a few mates that have used them for quite a few years now and in all cases i have noticed

they all have 360 degree roller tips fitted to the rod's.....as opposed to a fixed roller this may be worth

    you looking into....

in the mean time i have to ask the question i understand that electric reels make the task obviuosly easier

but in your eyes do you feel that it translate into a better catch rate?????

i myself enjoy the workout with the deck winches and feel that going over to electric may detract and take

away what little joy there is in hauling up a feed from 1500 odd foot of water...

is it due totally to the effort involved with the winches that you prefer to use rod and electric reel or is there

    other underlining reason's behind it????????..

    Cheers Warnie

    Warnie

First of all i can absolutely say it does not improve your catch rate and it also does not decrease it either.

But the reason why I went to electric was that most times I fish buy myself and hauling 2 to three lines up from the bottom of browns by manual power can be some what of a challenge.

The other reason was to maximize the time I can spend on the bottom when I do get to get out there. The electric reels allow me to have two baits down and one ready to go.

So if you look at it this way, when one is on its way up the other is on its way down and I can tell you there is no way I could do this without the use of electric reels.

So the key point for electric reels is to MAXIMIZE what time you have on the water. I would also like to add that the thrill of fighting a fish of the bottom of browns is in no way any less doing it by electric or manual power. the only thing that is different is the time it takes.

    Cheers

  9. Thanks for all the kind words guys, I really appreciate it.

I live in west pymble, right next to macquarie park/ north ryde.

As keen fishos like me you'd understand how much it hurts to have gear stolen that you've worked so hard to save up for and buy.

Unfortunately the police really didn't seem to give a toss, and the car isn't insured, as it was out in the street home and contents insurance doesn't cover it.

Just a bit of a kick in the teeth after having my tackle box stolen a month ago, ah well they'll get what's coming to them.

    Thanks again.

    Tony

    Tony

I really do feel for you. I did not mention this in my early post but I had the same thing happen to me some years ago.

But that is something i had to live with. But today we have our fish forums.

So I will personally put up $50 in a store voucher if any of our sponsors will match it to ensure that you are back on the water and enjoying the passion we all love :1fishing1::1fishing1::1fishing1::1fishing1: .

At least i am not the only one who snags at browns.

I remember the last time i saw you at browns i snaged twice 500 plus of 80lb :mad3: and 500plus of 125lb :mad3: so i know how you pocket feels.

But at least you where compensated with a fin and a good one at that. :yahoo::yahoo:

    cheers

This is the worst :1fishing1: report i have read.:thumbdown:

I’m with you the price they will sell it for is enough to make you sick.

I would also like to add that Pelican idea of a rough location would help us all keep an eye out.

I hope you get you gear back but most of all I hope that the mongrel get caught :gun_bandana::gun_bandana:

    Cheers
