  1. See previous posts on this sort of topic..... Same tactics apply as to re: Dee Why Beach..... Henners
  2. Very nicely photoshopped....
  3. If it hits the sand and salt bobfish is right, this will screw it up. However, you also must remember that smaller reels don't have anywhere near the line capacity of a beach rod, so say you have 80 metres of line on ur reel, you cast out 60 metres, a big salmon, tailor or jew hits then ping! He'll get off in no time. I had a big salmon strip line of my Alvey, it went about 85 cm. Tailor off the beach can get relatively big, so They can mess up your reel. A fast fish on a small rod: I woulod never try it. If you are chasing whiting and bream, it should be Ok but Salmon and jews love the beach worms, so watch out for any tell tale signs they are around! Henners
  4. You ripper Dan! Spk tommorrow, Henry
  5. Yeah, my friend eats the english mackeral (a pathertic excuse for a yakka) apparently quite good
  6. This whole greens situation is stupid..... Someone should inform them that they need to RESEARCH sites first before coming to conclusions. When they do come to their conclusions, they should do so in a logical an UNBIASED manner! Cheers, Henners
  7. I must disagree with all you heretics ! Seriously though, this is an age old department. I had to have expensive training to use my ALvey, and very nearly lost my PB 80 odd cm Salmon! However, I found that with time, they were fantastic. A rust egg beater can have so many problems. A classic example would be when I was on the Hawkesbury River recently. I had what felt to be a fish on a light eggbeater setup and the drag ect. wouldn't release well. Then the bloody thing wouldn't wind properly. I also lost a GT lure in a cast on hols because the beater snapped over and the lure came smahing into the side of the metal boat! However, keep to Roberta's advice to try before you buy. Maybe even ask someone of you like it to teach you! Henners
  8. Yeah, the beaches are the go as Mike said..... Salmon season starting soon WOO HOO!
  9. Hey, I have played around in sessions with both, and I definately prefer my Alvey. It takes getting used to, but is easier to cast, and in my opinion, does cast further. The eggbeaters can be more complex to use and when you are on a beach, you want simple and effecient. There will be miixed opinions on the site, I would go speak to one of the great site sponsors and they are sure to sort you out! Happy fishin and hope this helped, henners
  10. hope u land the mutha!
  11. I've seen a magnificent guru at work who doesn't miss many fish..... I used an Alvey 12ft 8kg line. Running heavy ball sinker in between two hooks. Gangs for pillies, and big circle live bait hooks for anything else. The main thing is, you dont want the bait to stay still. You want it to drift along the gutter so to any fish that is lurking it seems that the bait is naturally flowing in the current, therefore looking to be an easy meal for a predator. Think like the fishes and you get results, henners
  12. Ye hopefully will give you guys a buzz tommorrow
  13. Gang hooking is the go for me off the beach.... We normally punch through twice with a single boat hook method.... Once throught the eye or bottom of the tail.
  14. It depends what you are looking for. I have caught a HUGE Salmon off there and have also seen JEws ect. landed. Jewies generally prefer deeper, longer gutters, where as salmon will hang where the bait is lying. Therefore, a good deep gutter (where there is blue water) will generally produce something. The bait that I have seen a very good expert use is pillies from the tackle stores. PM me if you want the guys name. The same man also used yakka's for jewfish (live). The yakka's were hooked with a live bait hook. The pillies were on gang-hooks. Of course common you will also get bycatch, however if you bring your pillie in and see its gut hanging out it is generally a bream, which is in the right spot! Happy fishin, Henners
  15. Hi everyone, Now I know they might be a tad few and far between but a few have been caught! We are having no trouble picking up our husty trusty slimy mackeral and yakka's, and we have a downrigger. Now where should we go? We tried for only to small hits and no hook ups last weekend...... And I am determined to catch a king! Henners
