We can not mention the names of businesses in public posts which are not sponsors of the forum. The business that I meant is a large chain store that has an orange color logo with a big snake in its name. I will also PM you the name.

Not now, earlier this year. There was a clearance of Trions everywhere . $20 baitcaster Trions were at Big Orange Snake stores. I got my spin Trion for $50 from there. I think most of other stores were clearing Trion stock for $75. Use Frank's offer to get rid of that itch and then decide what to do next.

I considered baitcasters too - as I wanted to try something different. Then analysed baitcaster pros and cons and my own land-based and kayaking fishing conditions , and came to conclusion that I do not need it - I just want it. My suggestion would be - if you want to learn something absolutely different from spin reels - try Alveys. If I decided to go into baitcasters - I would look into reels from $200 (you can get 5 spin Siennas and a change for that $). Baitcaster rods can be quit cheap due to low demand on regular sales/clearances - I saw Trions for $20.

@Volitan, thanks for sharing. What did you mean by fishfinder rig? (In different places - fishfinder rig is different)

Yes. Google : 'fishing calendar au', and then switch to images. Look for the ones from AU websites, preferably local NSW websites.

Hi All. Just wondering if there are any other suggestions on glues for Soft Plastic ( other than Super Glue type products and others mentioned above)? I would prefer something that dries slower than Super Glues. The glue to be used mostly on Zmans. Thank you.

This topic is about local (SE QLD) advice. I stated it is NSW forum as I believe 95% of discussions and reports here are about NSW. I totally agree that the members here are from around the world. I lived in QLD too. Noosa is a nice place except nudists on the other side

There was an interesting review of chinese chinese reels recently ( a month or 2 ago) on this forum. Try search function on the forum.

If you are interested in that particulal brand - local distributor does regularly 25% sales off current prices. The recent one just finished a few days ago, the next one I would expect again in Jan. Also, google australian surfcasting federation forum - it should give you more ideas about related local AU rod and blank choice and related local builders.
-
Try also european fishing forums or FB for reviews as these rods are not common in AU. I would not be much excited about current sale as the stated AU RRP $440 is a joke - this model retails for 120 EUR in Europe.

I was considering one. Are there any cons of Paravanes?

Generally not required for : QLD, ACT, NT and SA. Required for: NSW, VIC ,TAS and WA(in certain cases e.g recreational boat fishing, lobsters, freshwater..)
-
Recreational fishing in half of Australian states does not require license. People can keep the fish caught there as long as the size/quantity are legal.

I have seen Strada Viral / Villan lures in Sugapen shape sold below $8 online locally. The reviews are not so bad.

'fish head dude' and 'luck e strike scrounger' jig heads have bibs. However I doubt that they are old models

It is not just shop fish mate, most meats, vegies and fruits too.

Try also free Deckee app (advertised on the top of the forum page) or other similar apps . I believe Deckee shows at least a few spots at Illawara area.

Memories... loved eating fried small crucian carp (never saw them in AU) and redfins. Wells catfish - too much fat, carp - too many bones.

Finding it hard to see why lighter trace works

I guess it works the other way around re confidence for me - I always try "match" the leader rating to the cost of the lure first? -
I would try to call Shimano.

Finding it hard to see why lighter trace works
savit replied to nutsaboutfishing's topic in Fishing Chat
I have a theory that a fish feels (with lateral line) a leader more than it sees, so leader clarity is not enough for lures . A thicker leader has more resistance (and disturbance) in the water during the lure retrieve. I would not rely fully on manufacturer line diameter or breaking strain ratings . There was a very good website with actual thickness and breaking strain testing - Paulus Just Fishing. Hope it will be online some time later. https://web.archive.org/web/20160312183113/http://paulusjustfishing.com/4linetestingplastic.htm -
Big orange snake stores used to stock those rods. From my memory they are not very light, even the smaller one 7'6". I would suggest to visit a store and check the rig feeling/balancing first with a few different reel models and sizes -before doing a few hundreds dollars reel commitment for $50 rod.
