  1. Great report Roberta. The fish didn't come out and play, but you had a good time and that is what it is all about. Those tubes look like a tight squeeze. Byron, that pic Pete was talking about was taken in 1886. We are talking 2 centuries ago
  2. Wish it was still 10 quid for land. I wonder in todays dollars how much 10 quid was back in 1959, and the average earnings back then.
  3. I too do hope Forster doesn't become like that Byron. The lakes road is still bendy, full of potholes. But it is a very scenic drive. Fishing and boating is still very much part of Forster, and I do hope it stays that way.
  4. Hi Gaz, I had the anchor well cover plate custom made by a metal fabricator.
  5. I picked up a souvenir programme yesterday of the Forster-Tuncurry bridge opening. The programme contained not only yesterday's opening, but the original programme from 1959 and ads from 1959. Notice at the bottom of the prgramme of events, a fishing competition. The prize for the heaviest blackfish or bream is 30 pounds. In the ads, notice the single and double digist phone numbers. An airline that used to fly from Sydney to Forster, and land on Wallis Island. Passengers were then ferried across. The airstrip still exists today.
  6. Could be Roberta and her first boat, before her yak was invented. First shots of the Forster Predator.
  7. Today was the 50th birthday of the Forster-Tuncurry bridge, which opened on 18th July 1959. Today was a big day, with celebrations in both Forster and Tuncurry. When I was down at Forster checking out what was going on, I visted the historical society store. I bought some photos of what Forster and Tuncurry was like before the bridge was opened, and how people and vehicles were carried over by ferry. There is even a shot of the first ferry in 1886. A lady and her cart is been carried over, with the horses behind in the water. Hope you all enjoy.
  8. Great salmon guys. Some nice big and fat fish.
  9. Well done Billy. Looking forward to the next 500. How is the winch going? I bet you are enjoying it.
  10. when your deckie is finished polishing your boats hooters, he can polish mine since he has more time on his hands when not retrieving anchors anymore.
  11. I went with Virgin mobile who use the Optus Network. I went with a Nokia 5800 which is competing against the I Phone. The Nokia 5800 is a dual band phone, which is very important in regionals area, where the i Phone isn't dual band. I love the Nokia 5800. If you get the Nokia 5800, you get 1 years worth of free music downloads through the Nokia music site. Will save me a fortune in buying music. I've downloaded a ton of albums, singles etc
  12. Hi Jewgaffer, The winch was installed by me, I got the 8mm 2 core wiring from an auto electrician. Yes, it was tinned marine. Up here in Forster, been a regional area, alot of these stores stock both boat and auto cable. Many of the stores up here sell a bit of everything. Glad the windlass is going well Billy. You are like me, wondered why we didn't get a windlass a long time ago. Nice to sit back and let the windlass do all the work. Now no more hard work when fishing. Glad you like the hooters on my boat. I can tell you they are very effective. Sounds like a manly ferry The rope is spliced to the chain. I thought it maybe too thick, but it works well. No problems at all. There is a hole at the base of the unit which is wider in diameter to accomodate the splice so the rope doesn't jam when entering or exiting the anchor well.
  13. Fantastic news to have South Pacific Industries aboard.
  14. Great photos Grant. Lovely part of the world.
  15. You did the right thing. Better to be safe tahn sorry. it isn't worth the it, risking your life over a fish.
  16. Congratulations for passing. Well done guys. It is a very valuable certificate to have.
  17. Nice couple of fish. Well done
  18. Lovely looking blue nose bream. Well done. You seems to be having as much luck as me when it comes to blackies. I have only caught a few small fish where I live in Forster.
  19. Hope the boat is ok. I can imagine what sort of weather you get up north. Hope there wasn't too much damage.
