Weatherzone has a barometer reading on it. Generally 1016 hpa and above is considered good and below not so good. I personally don't think it makes much difference - only time I've fished for Jews it was 1002 and we caught 6 in an hour. Go figure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The numb rays are dodgy, have stood on one myself and it knocked me off my feet - was wearing shoes as well - think the zap conducts through water? Or its fins might have come up and struck me on the calf. Not sure. But yeah shuffling is probably the best method. If you can see a ray a meter or so away just kick sand at it and it should scuttle off. Have had success on the top water whiting at rose bay, more so with stick baits than poppers but the poppers are effective when there is a bit of chop or wind about. Mate I'd invest in a couple of small raiders or halco twistys (5-20g) and give spinning on the light gear a run. Plenty of willing pelagics in the harbour at the moment - and more often than not - it they're on, they're on. 1/8th or can afford to go a touch heavier. Using an Abu Garcia Vanguard 7"3 3-4kg - can get em out a fair way. Mind you i should mention this is fishing inside the harbour so could prob step it up a notch off the rocks.

Strange - have you tried varying up your retrieve? I.e. Letting it sink and cranking it up to the surface, rinse and repeat. Perhaps the metals you are using are too big? I have much better success with 10/5/3g lures though they can be a bit more difficult to get some distance on. If they still aren't hitting those try a soft plastic in a minnow or little paddle tail profile and rip that along the surface. My personal favourite are the Izumi gastronomic bait pin-tails. As mentioned it depends on what you're targeting. Could be worth investing in a couple 1/8th size jigheads aswell if chasing flatties.

Can't comment on the rods - but as far as the macs and frigates are concerned - apparently not. The macs have 3 dots along their belly where as the frigates don't. And their flesh is completely different colour - but yes very good fun on 3lb! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you're worried about your rod falling in - set your drag so it will go before the rod and physically hold your reel when you strike. Not perfect I know but saves you a new combo! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah that might be the issue mate. Try soaking the bread in water and squishing it up for burley, helps it get down - and as soon as you do cast out beyond it and let it swing under. If your out early in the morning wind shouldn't be too much of an issue so always unweighted. If you don't have a bucket - then don't discount a dead one. A nice fresh unweighted strip or full butterflied yakka will still do some damage - doesn't seem to attract the pickers either which is a bonus Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah fair enough, i just find if they are on its annoying having to rebait every time you drop a line in, especially if your in a rush getting livies etc. Havent encountered those Diamond fish where i get my yakkas, but guess they'd behave similarly to sweep. Are you fishing off a wharf? Sometimes if the sweep are a real nuisance ill cast out with a split shot or touch of lead and try and get past/underneath them as the yellowtail sit a touch deeper and arent hugging in as tight to the structure. Could be different circumstances though.

Im assuming you mean sweep - which can be a pain in the ass. I find to be 100% sure to get them, you need to be there first or last light (before the sweep wake up) and generally have an hour or so to have a go. Have also noticed that once the sun is up the good sized yakkas disappear and its just tiny little ones which can be really tricky to catch. Bread is perfect burley, my fave bait for them is pilchard gut, stays on the hook well and seems irresistable to them. Always unweighted unless there is a bit of wind or really strong current. If so just a split shot 15cm or so above the hook and you will be fine. Should be able to get one or more each bait. have managed 8 yakkas on the one piece of pillie gut.
