  1. For finer diameter line I find a well tied Albright hard to beat, both for strength and ease (especially if it's windy or low light) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. i stand corrected. filleted them to salt as bait and noticed the colour difference in the flesh. Are the frigates any good to eat?
  3. Great effort off the stones! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Assuming it's prob that big king having a go!!! Nice morning by the sounds Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Wicked Weasel w/ a Symetre or Stradic FJ in 2500 size. personally think the lower end shimano reels are better bang for buck. Edit: should mention i haven't used a wicked weasel but hear they are a pretty stellar stick. Own both a stradic and symetre and cant really fault either of them for their price.
  6. Just a quick report - went down to my usual spot with a mate around 5 this morning. Dead for a good 3 hours other than a squid and a cuttlefish. Birds started appearing so threw a ganged pillie out and saw some fish swoop in from below. I tied on a plastic on my bream stick and my mate a 40g metal. In 45 minutes I spun up 4 macs and my mate 2 bonnies. Had one squid bait out earlier which accounted for the trev. Other than that, a few snapper, bream and a bunch of tailor around 30-35 which is bigger than what I've seen the past few months. Threw one out live and actually got a big take on it but no hookup. Quick swim and home we went. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. same spot i took you too when we went out. obviously fires up a bit once the suns down...
  8. drooling.... few nice dinners sorted there!
  9. Hopefully more to come! Just need to find a productive spot land based - think i have one in mind though just need to give it a good try. Thanks mate - very happy - just one of those nights. Maybe full moon had something to do with it?
  10. Flatties will slow down a bit during the cooler months, they are there but just take a little more work. Bream fishing I find a bit more productive in winter as with trevally - but maybe because I'm targeting them more often. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Yeah you'd be surprised. The moorings are enough structure in themselves, but I've found 80% of the fish I catch there will be literally on the drop off itself - so it pays to stand maybe 5 meters back and work your plastic all the way to your feet. Z-man minnows in motor oil are my to to for that spot on a 1/8th jighead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. For the most parts the flats are fairly featureless, but up along the drop off are plenty of nipper/worm holes - hence all the bloody rays cruising around - and you would be surprised how far out you can get, on a big tide with the low being 0.2 or 0.3 you can easily get out a few hundred meters with it plateuing at around waist deep. the weed that is so prevelant at that first little section where it drops off disappears fairly quickly. Definitely worth another crack if you get the chance, great learning ground for plastics.
  13. I've only found it worthwhile fishing on the shallows at rose bay and that drop off opposite the sailing club as you mentioned. Some solid lizards in there and the occasional bust up of tailor/kings/salmon. A late arvo very low tide is when I've had most of my success and I fish it regularly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I prefer to have them ink in my bucket, have always found having them ink in the water it spooks the others for a few minutes where as if you get them straight up and chuck your jig straight back your bound to get another one or two. Not sure if others have found the same - just my observation. Plus when It comes round to it - that ink is killer burley if there's some kings cruising around! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Mate skin it and chuck out a strip asap! Never know that will swing by. So long as you play it right the 3lb shouldn't be tooooooo much of a problem Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. By coincidence funnily enough. Went for a squid after work at camp cove where I had picked up a few stonkers earlier in the week. Caught 2 in about half an hour when I saw a familiar boat cruise round the point and set up anchor to try the same. It was a mate of a mate who had taken me out on his boat once previously - gave him a shout and showed him my squid asking if he was keen to have a little night session. Jumped onboard and tried for another half hour or so picking up another 4 squid so plenty of bait for a few hours. Cruised round to his spot at about 8:15 or so and sent out first strips down. No more than 5 minutes of it hitting the water his handline nearly jumped out the boat! After a quick tussle a nice soapie was on board - first I had seen in the flesh! Another 15 minutes or so and he was on again.. Another soapie, slightly bigger than the last on deck. As soon as his next bait hit the water we were on again and he handed the handline to me for a try. Being strictly land based I haven't quite mastered the art and after tussling for a while the line wrapped around my hand - went for a run and ping! Felt like a good fish too... Down but not out finally I see my little stick keel over - completely different fight to anything I've felt, one long searing run and some big shakes and I knew it had to be my first. Up he comes and we got silver!! Another soapie but to say I was stoked was an understatement.... We managed another 3 on board in about an hour or so before we ran out of squid and called it. 2 for myself! Fish ranged from 55-68 - hopefully one to take home next time out!! We were fishing amongst moorings in about 14m east of the bridge. Simple running sinker to a small suicide hook, 10lb braid to 6lb leader. All on small strips or squid heads. Had by catch of an eel, some bream, some snapper and a flattie. Great little sesh. Photos aren't that flash as we didn't have a proper light but you get the picture... 17. Doing some nice work there mate - they will certainly start to come in thick and fast if you keep at it. Makes me want to have a crack with some HB's myself! Interesting the fish caught in the shallows. I went for a little snorkel inside the shark net at parsley bay just the other week and i swear there were mullet there that must have been pushing 60cm and thick as a brick so wouldnt suprise me if it was mistaken for a little jew/salmon/barra or anything of the like. The CNY theory seems most plausible though - prob a battling barra!
  18. And a coldie to top it off! Lovely session.
  19. Interesting chucking the sweep out for a livie - always think of them as a pest when im trying to bring up the yakkas! Might keep a few in the bucket next time...
  20. Lucky craft Sammy 65 in any clear colour Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Sounds like a top morning on the water. Very solid trev - pull like freight trains at that size!
  22. any of the S/E harbour jetties should produce. most have access to deep water and plenty of bait fish around. Watson's Bay could be a good start. Have personally only caught legal snapper at Rushcutters bay surprisingly - a few near the 40cm mark on a ganged pilchard.
  23. No issues on my 4000, good little reel in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
