  1. nice work mate some good bream i've been chasing jews in the cooks for the last 4 weeks nothing except a lot of by catch I've heard of black bream in the cooks so it could be one but I'm no expert cheers sydneyfisher12
  2. nice work mate always wanted to catch a king on fly
  3. your not really gonna get smashed as easily in 100m as you would in say 15m so you don't need super heavy gear. i go for a lighter reel at the moment I'm running a 4500j daiwa oceano on a 24kg jig stick theres heaps out there to choose from 50lb braid is heaps and i use a mono shock leader in 60lb tied directly to the jig make sure you're tying the jig to the solid ring not the split ring or straight to the jig
  4. headed out Sunday morning out of Sydney heads chasing kingfish had quick stop at the artificial for some live bait but didn't get any after not getting any live bait we headed east to a reef off sydney when i arrived there were about 25 boats there but i didn't see many catching. I talked to a few people who told me the fish were around we stopped in the middle of everyone and didn't really get any so i sounded around for a bit looking for fish. Eventually i found some good marks i hooked up good on the jig and boated a 80cm+ fish my dad was jigging with a lighter rod and hooked up but he got busted off. I was straight back down and into another 80cm+ fish then the bait rod went off and my dad landed the smallest fish of the day a 74cm. the fish were on if the fish went off i just moved around and sounded them. I sounded a really good patch of fish and dropped and hooked up and pulled in a 84cm dropped again and hooked up hard on a good fish took heaps of line and eventually i landed my pb kingfish going 95cm. we had now completely filled the esky and all the fish from now on were released. i jigged another 5 around the 80cm on the heavier gear before i changed to the gomoku first drop i popped the 20lb leader because i was going to hard second fish i had to stop from spooling me (only about 90m of line) and popped the leader again. I hooked up again and landed one going 86cm and then got smoked again before going back to the heavy gear and landing another 3 fish over 80cm. as it got later and everyone started to leave the fish thinned out and were really hard to find i had a few hook ups which i dropped on the way up. we left around 1 and got a bit wet coming in once the wind picked up. it was a awesome day out there and great to upgrade the pb hopefully i can get that 1m fish soon cheers sydneyfisher12
  5. i find no wire trace gets more fish my rig is either two snelled size 1 hooks in a fine gauge hook that rig hooks fish a lot better then the gangs but if i use gangs i use 3/0 gangs 15lb flurocarbon and a red glow stick 30-50cm up the line ill either use a very small pea sized ball sinker or no sinker at all burly every now and then with cubes best baits for me are live yakkas, yakka fillets or whole or pillie fillets cheers sydneyfisher12

  8. gday raiders this is my report on the hairtail social me and gianni left Sydney on Saturday morning we stopped at two tackle shops loaded up on bait, gangs and red glow sticks we arrived at apple tree boat ramp and not long after ray arrived and then Stephan and his mate sam we headed off towards cowan and met the mothership in pinta bay we registered and then had a look at the sounder and it was full with bait so out came the sabikis and we quickly had 15 yakkas in the tank. i heard one of the boys at the back had spotted a squid so a squid jig went on and if pretty much 6 casts i had 6 squid. we headed off around 2pm to chase hairtail we anchored up right in the spot set the lines and waited i managed another 2 squid but no bite yet from the hairtail it wasn't until it started to get dark that stewie hooked one but dropped it. About 10 minutes later i looked over and my rod was buckled picked it up and i was on then gianni's rod went but he missed it i got mine to the boat and got it in 126 he went with all the focus on my side of the boat we looked over to see one of gianni's rod bent right over he struck and was into one he got it beside the boat and it pulled the hook but lucky he was able to jag it in the back on the way down we gently guided it into the boat and we landed it going 121cm we were both stocked both new hairtail PB's there was bait all over the sounder a mixture of yellowtail, squid, tailor and squid cowan is packed full of bait its everywhere we kept fishing up until 10:30 when me and Stephan made a move to Waratah bay as we arrived the sounder lit up so i quickly chucked in the only baited rod which was gianni's it didn't take long for it to hook up and he was on we got it to the boat i grabbed the leader and the hook pulled. we put all the baits back in and the bites were consistent gianni hooked up again and landed a small on at 105cm we had many hook ups even fish coming to the boat but they were very small and hard to hook. eventually one of my bigger yakka baits went off and i was into a good fish it fought very hard the best fight I've ever had on a hairtail we got it in a noticed 20-30cm of its tail had been bitted off after that we had a few more bites but nothing much at 3am Stephan and his mate sam left and at 3:30am we went to sleep we woke up at 6am and headed back to Jerusalem bay we spoke to scratchie who said there was a bite at 5am we anchored up but we didn't have long until we headed to the mother ship it was great to meet everyone some people i knew and some new people sean won the first prize but generously gave his prize back and i was lucky enough to win the $100 raffle cheers mate i'd like to thank Stewie and Donna for organising another great social and Gianni and Stephan for being great company out there ill definitely be back next year might even give them a go very soon they're one addicted species cheers seamus

  12. plenty of redfin in lake burley griffin which are really easy to catch and the lake would be easy access. catch them on lures makes it very exciting and you're always actively fishing cheers sydneyfisher12
  13. have spent the last 3 days out on the water chasing kings all over sydney started late saturday morning collected some yakkas and headed wide of sydney to one of the reefs arrived and it was dead not a single fish seen all day headed back in gave the harbour a quick go for nothing. sunday headed out super early collected a few more yakkas and headed wide again hoping the fish would be biting early we arrived and it was dead once again didn't waste too much time and headed back in picked up a few more yakkas to fish inside the harbour we tried plenty of wrecks and around many spots it was dead not even a touch or marking anything we headed back offshore for a bottom bash and pulled a few good fish including flatties, mowies and various reef species sunday night we spent collecting squid for the next day we got plenty for the next days bait we headed out super early monday morning and headed north up the coast we headed far out of sydney heads to a few spots i know and they all were dead where are the kings we slowly made our way back stoping at a few spots before we eventually found the fish. it was a hot bite me and my mate would've landed 20+ biggest going 80cm they were taking live squid, jigs and even popers it was great to finally get into some good fish and have some fun after a lot of hard work. the bite eventually slowed as it got late and we headed in on the way in we spotted some salmon bust ups and decided to have 1 cast me and my mate hooked up instantly pulling two monster salmon going 70cm a lot of hard work cold nights and mornings eventually payed off and we got into some good fish its been hard going lately most days only 1 or 2 rats cheers sydneyfisher12
