Haven't had much internet access in the last week, so I'm not sure how that happened. Maybe autocorrect. ??? or maybe crap typing.
But you both right. Girella zebra.
-
The stripes are sometimes noticeable on Silvers, maybe its the mood they are in at the time.
Blue Trevallly don't have the black spot on the top of their Gill Plate (operculum) and this one has.
-
I would say Zebrafish "Gisela zebra" as well.
Colour variation could be just the environment the were in.
Take Luderick for example. From Charcoal to Bronze to a very light colour.
-
Favourite part of the day for me and those photos confirm why.
Thanks.

Perhaps, but looking at fishesofaustralia.net.au that species has been reported from South Western Australia to Eastern Tasmania, but not in Eastern Victoria or NSW.
Cheers
Good call.

I was thinking of a Kelp Weedfish Volitan.

I recon your right Volition on the Mullet, but I'm still going Long Nose Trevally.

You said 40 to 60 mtrs depth freediving i was once aust junior champ spearing i can freedive 26mtrs if you can freedive 40mtrs im sceptical bout how you measure depth not many guys in this country can hit 40 let alone 60mtrs....rick
Ever bump into M Colys, he also was also Junior champion.

The Mullet looks a tad old (Eyes are dull and body dried out) so hard to ID, but I would say a Sea Mullet. "Mugil cephalic Linnaeus"
And the Trevally I would call a Long Nose Trevally. "Carangoides chrysophrys"
Always happy to be wrong though.

Yes, Black Cod. "Epinephelus daemelii"
Or another common name is a Saddle Tail Groper. You can see the Saddle on the wrist of the tail.

Hi Ian.
First one is a Sergeant Baker "Hime perpurissatus"
Second, most would call it a Blue Morwong "Nemadactylus douglasii". But It also has a few other common names.

My guess would be a Blue striped Goatfish Upeneichthys lineatus. Also colours change as well I suppose depending on their mood.
Don't get as big as a the Blacksaddle/Blackspot Goatfish.

Excellent

Thanks for that Rick, I never knew about them here off the East coast. I had a read up about them and they seem to be a deep water species so maybe thats why very few are captured by fisherman but come up in the deep water Trawl nets.
-
Good on her, they obviously see talent when it’s there.
-
I'm with Yowie on the first two.
The others I recon are,
Photo 3. Rainbow Cale . Heteroscarus acroptilus"
Photo 4. Gunthers Wrasse. "Pseudolabrus guentheri"
"WONDER WOBBLER"

Same here Waza, you bought back some memories.
First lure caught Flathead was also on a Wonder Wobbler up at Umina Beach. Early 70's.
I had run out of prawns and this fellow said his son had caught them on lures before. I was doubtful but 5 minutes later I had one.
