For the Purists
Cottonmouth Trevally. Uraspis secunda
-
Nailed it Penguin.
-
Hard to get perspective, what size roughly was it.
-
Thats a great capture especially off the stones .... of days gone by and especially a rare capture down here these days.
Though I have heard of a couple taken Sydney/Pittwater.
Credible reports they "were" in Botany Bay busting up as well.
-
Silver Sweep, Scorpis lineolata and a good size one at that.
-
Vice president of the International Committee.
-
There are plenty of Blue Groper swimming around so if you wanted to knock one on its head that certainly wouldn't be a problem.
But at the end of the day, the angler who caught the fish has the call on releasing or keeping it for a feed.
-
No problems mate, I recon they are more unusual than the Banded.
Cool catch.
-
Spotted Wobbygong. Orectolobus maculatus.
-
My guess would be a Largescale Saury Sauria undosquamis. And big one at that.
They have come up on here a few times.
-
Love the heat, hotter the better.
-
We holiday at Tathra and wonder the same, mind you we holiday in Summer and maybe Winter is a tad more chilly.
-
Juvenile Pennant Trevally Alexis ciliaris
Cool catch.
-
Yeah Swordy I was thinking along that Rankin cod line as well till I had a look to refresh the grey mater. Certainly not a Rankin.
Ok I'll have a punt,
Eight bar Groper (Juvenile) Epinephelus octofasciatus
More pcs would be good.
-
No idea, if you ask them what area would certainly help.
-
I'm calling it a False/Southern Fusilier, plus its also has a few other common names.Thats why Steve and I always put up a Latin name.
-
I'm going to call it a False Fusilier Paracaesio xanthura.
Unusual. Could be a Fishraider record.
-
Gee Scratchie you bloody make it hard to add without missing someone deserving.
Going to miss JonD's articles as his daughter is about the same age as mine.
As Jons, she loves the water and has done here fair share of fishing and diving but has a different direction in her interests these days, but thats all part of growing up to be the person they are.
On-Ya mate.

Looks cold there Janifin, but you look successful .
Great seeing your reports from a different part of the world with we don't experience.
Thanks.
-
Yeah I changed my mind when I saw the yellow on top of the beak .
Good photo John.
-
Not being a being a "Twitcher" but i'd call it a Black-Shouldered Kite.
Or a Grey Goshawk ... told you I wasn't to good at this.
-
Nice catch Trigunner54.
The Catfish is a Estuary Catfish/Cobbler Cnidoglanis macrocephalous.

No blue dots on the flanks(sides) on a Grassy but this one you can see them faintly.

I've seen a couple over the years caught by other anglers, never caught one myself.
Gives you some idea of their distribution https://australianmuseum.net.au/cottonmouth-trevally-uraspis-secunda
