I also have some 2174 green Daiichi's, but find with bait the green comes off after a couple of hours leaving a shiny silver hook. I prefer the 2171-B's. Probably different/fine when used as for a fly. To those using Mustad 540's, do you use a snell knot? cheers, stu.

Those two articles will tell you everything you need to know about blackfishing and the advice from Waza is spot on! Balance you float right, mine has only 1.5cm of stem showing. Get yourself some green weed and/or cabbage, you'll get more blackfish on weed than on other baits. Mix up berley with the same weed as your bait with a couple of handfuls chopped fine per 10L sand. My leader is 6lb FC Rock at .205mm. Then vary your depth till you start getting bites! There is also a theory that if you can see the fish, you won't get a bite . . . There is a line of thought that Blackfish look for protein after spawning, thus taking squirt worms and nipper, etc more in spring. There are definitely 'critters' in cabbage weed, I dunno whether they'd satisfy a hungry bream. Also heard that blackfish need the 'critters' in cabbage as part of their diet.

Hi All, Heading down south to Batemans Bay, Bermagui and Eden in a few weeks and will be packing a couple of rods for my beloved Blackfishing. My homebase is Sydney and cleats are the go on our sandstone ledges. I'm hoping for advise on the best footware for down south . . . Will my volleys & cleats suit? Would neoprene booties with steel pins in the treads be better? I have those as well . . Or are plain volleys the go? cheers stu.
